Please, please, please lose the double scrollbars. Also, your top menu is all spaced badly so it runs to 2 lines on firefox, which looks a tad messy. But just lose the double scrollbars, in the name of all that's geeky please lose the double scroll bars :) (oh yes, some prices would be nice as well, I'm never going to buy from somewhere where I have to get in contact to find out all the prices).
  2. Sorry, yes you're right. According to howstuffworks speakers are fed a positive of negative current that moves the cone in one way or the other. I was thinking of the fact that speakers don't need a direct power supply hooked up to them, but the reason for that is kind of obvious when I do some research into how they work properly :) So my reasoning was all wrong, but the end result is still kind of correct. I got the impression the cable had been bodged up out of several different cables, in which case replacing it with a professionally made cable could make quite a lot of difference. Although now that I think about it I guess it's probably been done like that because the speakers cable is hardwired in, in which case it's not going to be possible to do anything other than bodge it without adding some extra stuff in. Thinking about it some more, there should be all sorts of problems with feeding a stereo signal into a single speaker. I'm not entirely sure how that would be being dealt with...
  3. Yes, as far as I'm aware they are. Quite a few longer trials (best example being the Scottish six days) incorporate road sections to link the, errr, sections. This is also why most trials bikes come with lights fitted on the front.
  4. I'm not entirely clear on what you've said, but from what I gather you've jury-rigged some sort of cable from the headphone jack on your soundcard to some undefined speakers. Power shouldn't be an issue here, speakers themselves aren't normally powered in any way - they're acoustic instruments not digital so they don't need electricity. Assuming you've plugged them into the headphone socket on your soundcard, all the amplifying will be being done by your PC. What will almost certainly improve your sound quality though is getting hold of some decent cables. Pop along to your nearest hi-fi shop and grab any interconnect with the appropriate plugs on it and give that a go.
  5. I generally agree with what you're saying about video formats, however you're wrong about not being able to watch wmv files on Linux. I've never had a problem watching any wmvs on my Linux machine, you just need mplayer. The only time I've had any problem is with WMV10 files on my 64bit install, purely because it's still a relatively new codec and it takes a while for these things to filter down to 64 bit architectures (they play fine on a standard 32 bit install). Still, I'm sure I could get it to play if I wanted to spend a while looking into it, but I just watch things on my xbox at home instead :) But yeah. You can watch anything on Linux, you just need mplayer and the appropriate codecs.
  6. Git! I've been wanting to spray my T-Pro purple pretty much since I got it. I was hoping I'd be the only person (at least on here) with it in purple! Looks really good, if anything I'm now more convinced I should spray mine asap :)
  7. I think personally I'd go for something a bit lighter. A combination of the 661 veggie knee and shin guards would probably be a good set to get. That way they're fairly light and unobtrusive and you can wear just shin pads or just knee pads if you find you don't need both. When I first started riding I bought a set of the Roach Indy knee and shins and found them far too inhibiting for trials. While they'd probably be fine for downhill/freeride mtb stuff I think they might be a bit limiting for BMX as well.
  8. It seems you've made up your mind, so I guess any advice I might be giving is superfluous. But I'm going to do it anyway, because I want to say my piece :op I nearly always spend too long thinking about relationships just before they become relationships, trying to weigh all the pros and cons of a situation and working out if I really want to get involved with this girl etc. What I always find though is no matter how much I think about something in the end it's better just go with the flow and see how things turn out. This tends to be just how things work out for me anyway - I'll think about a situation a lot when I'm alone and as soon as I'm around the subject of my thoughts I forget all the problems and just go along with whatever, without really making any effort to push either way. Just let everything develop naturally. Having said that, I think under 20 (perhaps younger, maybe only under 18/19) things are a little different. Age difference probably does need to be considered once you start looking at age gaps that span some tumultuous life periods. Meh, I don't know... I'm all a bit lost with younger partners. The only ones I've had have only just been younger than me. Most of the girls I end up going out with are significantly older than me. I'm also a little biased as my 15 year old sister is going out with someone older than me and I really don't like that - although 15-23 is a little different than 15-17 :)
  9. Heh, I don't think just getting the highest score was the point. There's not much to talk about with taking the easy route :)
  10. One of my cow-orkers got a high score on that by soldering a button loop closed on an old mouse. Was a bit tricky as he couldn't let the contact break while he was soldering it... I think he got it in the end though and left it running on a spare machine at work for as long as possible. Not really sure why he felt the need to waste an afternoon on it mind... some sort of weird geek bragging rights that even I don't understand. Or maybe he's just a bit odd :)
  11. I think it's largely a metabolism thing; when you're in your early-mid teens your metabolism tends to be a bit higher so you clear out the alcohol quicker. Plus, of course, you're not drinking as much alcohol because your tolerance is lower, so you're not getting as dehydrated.
  12. I've ordered but haven't yet recieved: Omar A Rodriguez-Lopez - A Manual Dexterity V.1 The Mars Volta - Tremulant EP Before that I bought 3 CD's at once in Fopp the other day: The Mars Volta - De-loused in the comatorium The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute Radiohead - Kid A You can see there's a bit of a theme going on with my music at the moment :)
  13. Yeah, well I still think your mum is overrated.
  14. The video was very good. I did smirk a little about downloading a video called "koxx tease" though. I really should have got over such jokes by now!
  15. Which doesn't make you biased at all. Oh no. Actually I have a friend who works for Sony, in the games development studio in Soho. What do you do for them?
  16. Shopped by Joanna Blythman. Picked this via a recommendation on the Howies site and I can only mirror what they said "Read this and never shopped in a supermarket again". Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell. Best book that has ever graced the English language by one of the best authors to ever live. Everyone should read that book. Pretty much anything by Philip K Dick, although probably the best ones to read are A Scanner Darkly (soon to be a cool looking animated movie) or Time out of joint. PKD stands alongside Orwell as my favourite author. He was a master of paranoid, disturbed literature with more expertly crafted layers of conspiracy than... well pretty much anything else. I've also been quite into Robert Heinlein recently, although he can be a little hit and miss. His stand out achievement is probably Starship Troopers, which is an excellent novel from so many different angles (just try to ignore the piece of crap movie with the same name). Also good by Heinlein is Citizen of the Galaxy which is quite an enjoyable read, nothing extra special there though.
  17. Sounds like a server setup thing to me. The chances are the server your hosted on is set up to load any one of several pages if they exist and both home.asp and index.asp are in that list, with home.asp being given preference. You might be able to work around this with something like a .htaccess file (although I'm guessing the server is running IIS, so I don't know what the equivalent is) but by far the easiest route is just to call home.asp something else.
  18. Give your local fabric shop a go. You should be able to pick up lengths of soft canvas type material in the appropriate width, then cut and fit it yourself.
  19. I think this could run this risk of being counter productive. The problem is that if you associate an individual (or a couple of individuals) with a specific area of knowledge then someone looking for advice in that area might go straight to that person for advice instead of posting on the open forum. What this means is: The person listed as the 'expert' could feel a little pressured to help people, depending on how many people are contacting them and how busy there are in real life this could be quite an issue for them. You're actually less likely to get your question answered quickly. Everyone has limits to their knowledge and if you only ask one person a question and they don't know you have to go and find someone else before you get an answer. It's kind of contrary to the idea of a forum... one of the useful things about asking a question on a forum is that you get a mix of replies and when your question is answered its available for anyone else to see to save anyone from having to answer the same question again (well, in theory). Also, I think everyone kind of knows their area of expertise and will automatically look at any topic they think they might be able to answer (and also they can be bothered to answer). Thus automatically pairing the experts with the questions. The best way of making sure your question is answered by the person with the requisite knowledge is to give it a sensible title, put it in the right forum and use legible spelling and grammar :)

    Bmxing

I've been thinking about a similar thing. I find when I'm riding trials I'm often pretty serious about it and pushing myself quite a lot so it'd be nice to have something to just mess about on in the summer. The idea of hanging out with a group of friends at the skatepark and flowing some lines sounds like an excellent way to spend the time :) Of course, it probably won't work like that, after a few months I'll end taking BMX as seriously as trials and pushing myself really hard. But it's all good fun anyway. I've been thinking about picking up the We The People Daredevil bike, to my fairly untrained eye it seems like quite a good deal (only £270 from Winstanley) and a nice bike to start on. I seem to remember reading some good reviews of it somewhere as well, which helps!
  21. Do you mean "Mutiny: Time well spent"? If so I have a copy of that film on divx that I haven't got around to watching more than 10 minutes of yet. I'm not sure if it's still active, but I think I spotted a torrent for it on novatina the other day. If you can't find it then let me know and I'll see what I can do about getting a torrent for the whole film up somewhere.
  22. I can get to a national rail only by getting a tube. Transport links from here are great, unless you want to travel with a bike! It's possible, it's just a hassle and I know when I get up in the morning the thought of that hassle is going to make me a lot more likely to just not bother.
  23. I was actually thinking of scooting off to Battersea Park on the London ride next weekend, so I'm certainly interested this week. The transport issues are a bit off putting though (several tubes I'm not supposed to be on with a bike might be pushing my luck a bit I think). Don't suppose anyone's planning to drive down there from North London way with a little space in their motorised vehicle?
  24. Check this thing out. Although the design is very futuristic, I actually think it looks pretty ugly (I think they've strived for a futuristic look on purpose though). It's really nice to see a fully functioning hydrogen cell engine finally being built. Especially interesting is the fact they're talking about it's offroad capability - if these engines can be developed far enough then I reckon we might see trials/motorcross bikes with hydrogen cell in the not to distant future. Just look at the weight (80kg for those you can't be bothered to RTFA), that's not much heavier than a (motorised) trials bike and this is really just a proof of concept project. There's potential there to have a very, very light trials bike. Full article here
  25. I agree with this to a degree, but it's also worth bearing mind that your sound quality is only going to be as good as the weakest point your system, so buying a slightly better quality amp (any seperates system is going to be better quality than an mp3 source) will ensure that you're getting the best possible sound out of your source. It also means that when you buy a CD deck you should have a good enough amp to do it justice. Thesubway: meant to mention earlier, on your budget your best bet is probably to keep an eye out on eBay and Cash Converters like shops (although you'll be lucky to get a good deal in the latter, they're overpriced about 95% of the time).
