  1. Right, I suggest you do try and go to uni. If you dont like /are not good at maths do not attempt an engineering course unless you think you can really focus, there very maths based, and have more work than some courses. I can say this being a uni engineering dropout due to crap maths skills! im currently trying to get my motivation sorted, im doign first year again at a different uni with more maths support. i got a D at a level, its not good. get some a levels under you, and there are plenty of courses to do where you don't need maths. Even if you go for an easier course, one of the stupid ones, it will at least get you to uni, which is a damn good laugh, and get you a degree. It doesnt matter what degree youve got at the end for most jobs, its only if your aiming very high or into a certain sector where they will want specific degrees from good unis. For most office/retail ect jobs they see you have a degree, and nkow you have experienced uni, so you have life skills, they also see you have a degree, so they know you can work towards a goal. If your fed up of education, take a gap year and reapply to uni after a think about things. go and do something mad, travel, teach, just see what happens. You will feel better, and possibly even actually want to learn when you come back.
  2. Def live with grandparents, just cycle to college (or station then college) for now, get a part time job and save as much much money as you can. any holidays try and get overtime /full time work then you may have enough to sort out renting somewhere if you want to move out after college. Youve got more options than some people would in this situation, so use them. Glad to hear you alright still, all i can say is it makes me thankful of my situation, and its very hard to imagine what you must be going through. good luck, and if theres anything i might be able to do for you give me a shout, the worst i can do is say no so its worth a try! this prob goes for others too.
  3. Im in rees, so will be able to park once ive argued to get a permit. Im not taking car straight away either.
  4. Curley, ill see you in pompey (what halls you in btw) you can meet nick and i and we will show you the ways of minis and VAG and help you fix! I did the HG on my 8v along with a load of other stuff, so should be able to help out. I know how you feel, ive got to do CV boots tommorrow, and sort out rust spots.
  5. Loks very interesting indeed, films have been made about the begginings of bmx, so its nice to know people want to know the same abotu trials. It should be a very interesting watch, if only for the interview with various riders, but it looks so well thought out and put together from that trailer that there will be a lot more than just the interviews to look forward to.
  6. Yes, wire door speakers as rear. The wiring shouldnt be too bad, i fyour lucky you may be able to tie new wire to old and pull it through- but knowing VW itl be neatly in the loom so that wont work. If youve got a hayned manual, use that to halp you remove as much plastic as you can confidently, trim and stuff isnt usualy too hard to remove, and it makes it much easier, unless your a supper flexy thin armed person. The other option is to buy a set of components and install those properly, and take other speakers back. still involves wire cutting- but not replacing.
  7. right------- you did have factory components as i origonally thought, so if you want to run 10cms and 6.5"s you WILL HAVE TO run new wires, as runnign 4 speakers off 2 channels is not a good idea at all, it lowers the impedance to 2 ohms and the amp will be drawing more current, and is not likely to be 2 ohm stable as its just an HU. In terms of speaker terminals, chop em off and use new crimp on conectors, alhtough this will be irrelevant if your rewireing anyway.
  8. Due to the placement of the wheels, they wont affect bike riding- so you could do trials in the heelys, and do both during the demo.
  9. Righty ho, sounds like theyve set it up so 4 channels are fronts in dash, rear in door, which is pretty cool. The standard wiring should be fine, but you can uprate if you like. If you not sure about speaker size, whip em out and compare them to some in halfords, just to make sure. The RMS values youve quoted should be fine, not likely to fry anything at all. Once its all in, i would personally use the fader control slightly to the rear to balance out the fact you have more powerful speakers in the doors, and i would also fit 'bass blockers' to the 10cm dash speakers, these will remove very low frequencies helping prevent distortion, they are basically an inline capacitor, and are available at halfords.
  10. Mini saloon (roundnose), highly tuned Mini Van, nice nippy daily driver. Chevy G20 van, Road trip mobile- this is currently my next project after my mini, and it going to be very very mad indeed. Short wheelbase landy, proper off road stylee, rover V8. Shelby AC Cobra kit car, Im sorry but the noise from proper V8 in this is the most intoxicating noise in the world! even better than a mini. And don't forget a MASSIVE array of tools to build/maintain these cars! My own oil refinery would help too.
  11. Mainly because they aer skilled and experienced at building wheels, that have been proven to be very good and very strong. they have great customer service, and offer wheel building at a price much reduced compared to a lot of LBS's, where the wheelbuilding may not be quite so good.
  12. Yep, dead on. Don't rush it, take it easy and you should be fine. make sure you have a half decent spoke key, a spokey or a parktool one are reccomended. Rounded nipples can be such a pain. A flat blade screw driver is also useful for starting nipples off on new spokes if you don't have a nipple driver. Don't bother with the cable tying thing, just do it one spoke at a time and youl be fine. remeber you will be moving EVERY OTHER spoke, as you are only moving onge flange set to start with. you will end up half way through with a two rim wheel, this is good.
  13. What is the speed rating on them? Its usually shown by a letter. Letter.............Max speed km/h.................mph N............................140............................87 P............................150............................93 Q ...........................160............................99 R............................170............................106 S.............................180...........................112 T.............................190...........................118 H.............................210...........................130 V.............................240...........................149 W............................270............................168 Y.............................300............................186 ZR...........................240+.........................149+ Sooooo, if there any of those they should be fine fot the MOT as the max legal speed in this country is 70mph. If you intend to drive at 100mph, and there N or P rated- then woudl reccomend changing them.
  14. indeed, relacing with old spokes can stress them more but simply replacing a rim is very different, and spokes will be fine. If the ERD of the new rim is the same as the old, and if the spoke holes are offset the same way form the valve hole on each rim (ie both are 'right handed' or 'left handed'), then you can tape the new rim to the old, and swap over easily. Line up the rims by the valve holes, and release the tension in the wheel by going round and undiong each spoke gradually and in turn, but not all at once- one turn, onto the next, and so on aorudn the wheel. Then transfer one by one, the spokes that attach to the hub flange closest to the new rim, over to the correct positions in the new rim, do not tension. Repeat with the other set of spokes. Now tension. It is a very simple process, and can be very quick.
  15. Now, a year ago i would have whole haeartedly agreed with you tic, but recently, sony speakers have got A LOT better, they really have! I can say that with confidence, as i worked in halfors on that department for a good few months recently. they were a good price too, much better than the kenwoods for the money thats for sure. JBL and Infinity are both part of the Harman group, and make fantasitc stuff. JTM- now, in risk of opening the rear speaker debate again, it depends what is wanted from the system. YES rear speakers drag the soundstage back, and YES they arent nessesarily needed, but just two speakers running off the HU doesnt always cut the biscuit, and if you just after some tunes and not after audiophile quality, theres nowt wrong, IMHO, in properly fitting a set of rear speakers- and i do even extend that to 6x9s if you do it properly, as they can get some great results in terms of bass. It wont be anything like amped front comps and a small sub by any means, but on a budget, if you know what your doing they can yield very surprising results. i personally liek having at least some rear speakers, as my sub is in the boot and i find it helps to stop the seperation of bass which can occur with some tracks, i also find it slightly better balances the sound, even though there not really heard, and my soundstage IS infront of me, when you fade them in and out you notice the difference. It is all personal preference though- lets try not to have another raging debate, it has been had- im just stating my opinion, and jutifying my reccomendation for rear speakers in a set up like tipsy jock is going for.

google to the rescue: Snowflake. havent seen it myself, but you reminded me of another film but can't remember what it is now!
  17. i never said it was immature to discuss things, infact i think its quite the opposite. Its jsut the views you had posted sound, to me, ver immature. 'if you can get away with it, do it' Is not a mature way to think about relationships in my opinion.
  18. Its a complex thing, and every situation is different. If you mean by cheating havign a relationship with someone and ogin around sleeping with a load of other people willy nilly, then i don't believe you even deserve to be in a relationship full stop. However, certain situations can arise, whether it be love, lust, drunkness whatever that allow us make mistakes. Im not saying its 'right' in this case, but being in a serious relationship, getting plastered one night and having a one night stand and not rembering much of it is very different to 'hmm i think i feel liek a change tongiht, il go pull some other bird' and both situations should be treated very differently. I personally don't agree with it, and have never cheated on anyone (although once, and i regret it, have allowed myself to be the '3rd person', which i consider almost as bad, but the situation is different). I also don't belive i have been cheated on, although i do belive another guy was at least partly why my ex left me- but thats another long complex story. In a relationship there should be communication, openess, trust and honesty. Unless you both agree that its an open relationship, going and sleeping with someone else undermines all of those things. Sometimes people do it, and realise it is a mistake, communicate well and the relationship can be saved, other times its not worth even trying. To me, you mates views seem very immature: That isnt the right atitude to have if you in a relationship, i personally don't think they are mature enough to have any kind of relationship. I have to say, i partly agree with this, although if you deeply care for someone and have a fair amount of will power- it usually take a LOT of persuasion. Your right, girls can be very persuasive, as i found out when i was the 3rd person kinda thing. she wanted me, and in the end she blamed me for the whole situation, so you've got to be careful. Thats a very interesting viewpoint, especially since it comes from someone in a very longterm relationship. I do agree, that it can be not as bad as some peopel make out, and with that afte such a long time things will change, but i do belive comunication shoudl still be at the heart of the relationship and to go behind the others back isnt right, you should comfornt them and see there opinion. It may open doors to something else, open relation ship or otherwise.
  19. If spoke length is correct, and lacing is correct, the wheel should come into true fairly naturally as you tension, mine always have. If nessesary, start again. Even though the spokes seem really slack, dont turn more than a whole turn at a time, even at the beginning. One turn, each spoke, keep working round. make sure there all equal before you start that though, ie the same number of threads showing below each nipple.

WOW! this book has been sat of my bookshelf since a couple of christmasees ago, never thought of reading it due to the odd title, never even read the back cover. Abotu 1/3rd of the way through now, and its amazing! the insights it shows are really eye opening, and help explain a lot of things. i really do feel now that i understand how people with this kind of condition think more, and i think that will help me interact with them if the situation arises. I know every person will be different, but it does give an insight into the way they think. Its also quite a good story too, cant wait to get reading again!
  21. car audio security are ok, car audio direct are better though.
  22. ahh, you have factory components! no rear speakers at all? i woul dbe surprised if it didnt with factory comps. you could just uprate the main (door) speaker, but the balance between the woofer and tweeter may be affected, so its best to replace with a set of components, but as i said off a HU you can suffer from low volume as they need a bit of humph. They will work, and sound good up to a certain volume but will distort easily unless amped. If you have no rear speakers, i reccomend putting a co-axial speaker of the relavent size into the factory space to maximise the fact the stereo has 4 channels. If your not worried about sound staging too much, throwing speakers into a parcel shelf (as long as there mounted right) can provide good results for not a lot of money, but looks a bit chavvy and brings the soundstage back a lot. See how it sounds with the new HU before committing to speakers anyway.
  23. What car have you got? A new HU will make you factory speakers sound better FACT. If you go mad and turn the bass up to max, you WILL get distortion and prob damage the speakers though, so be warned. New speakers will probably bring the volume down a bit as they need more power to move the cone the same distance, but they will sound better and distort less. You will still get distortion if you turn the HU right up though as the little piddly amp can't cope. Most HU's are rated at 4x50w, this actually means 4x25W rms so any speaker with RMS up to 50 will go quite nicely, and youl get a lot out of it. If you go for some silly high power speaker the HU wont cope, and will nto drive it to high volumes. Ie, lots of distortion and possibly damage. I thoughally recommend JBL Gto series speakers, or Infinity reference. may be a little high power wise, but the HU will be ok with them. If you go for big components of something the HU will struggle a little, amping components is always a good idea.

Ive had a bit of experience with this kinda thing, but not as much as i might like. My ex used to work with disabled kids, especially autistic and asperges syndrome ect. It was amazing to watch her with them, she just seems to be able to comunicate with them better than anyone else i know. Anoyingly i can feel uncomfortable around people with autism and similar, i know this is my fault but i don't know if theres anything i can do about. unless you really get involved, or know someone with it personally its hard to know how to react and what to do. I see other people do the same kinda thing to me when they find out im epileptic, they imediately jump to conclusions. Its a shame there quality of life isnt always as good as our own, as they are fantasic people. They show what the human brain is capable of, and i imagine if we stick around long enough as a race, we will be socially intelligent and stupidly inteligent liek they are too.
