  1. if you have a smart phone, get strava and track it, you can keep glancing at it and see how your average pace is doing... you aren't going to be as good, i could run 14km in an hour on a treadmill last year, but the first time i was a 5 mile on the roads i was suffering haha. while i'm on the subject, i buggered my foot by smashing the treadmill like this, and doubt i'll bother with them ever again for anything other than a short warm up/cool down.
  2. they don't look that chewed up to me, i'd be livid if they weren't warrantied. if you want some better made, lighter alternatives superstar components offer some awesome pedals at very competitive prices, with a 2 year warrenty against anything. i'd get in touch with tarty and see if they would honour the warrenty for them in that condition.
  3. I think that tapered headtubes look fine, they certainly look strong... The standard has already been set as 1 1/8 and 1.5. there may be a period where it's hard to get an after market fork but you can get headsets that downsize the lower to accept a 1 1/8 steerer... my king has developed a creak, i imagine having a larger headset might help reduce creaks and such so it probably is quite beneficial.
  4. get on your pull ups and dips now! i thought i was strong enough; i could do 24-30 of each before being out of steam. but it wasn't near enough for me to do the monkey bars at the end, i ended up buggering my shoulder as a result and have been out of training and bikes for 3-4 months. And start running on real surfaces not treadmills as soon as you can.
  5. i'd quite happily go to a through axle, front and rear if i could have the chain tensioner from that ozonys with the 3 dropout positions. it would be super stiff, my rear wheel wouldn't wiggle if i land funny and my disc brake would always be lined up perfectly. plus chain tension and chain wrap are never a bad thing. weight penalty be damned.
  6. it's not hard to imagine all bikes being carbon once they can recycle it efficiently. maybe there will be a time that all you can get is carbon unless you pay through the nose for a metal frame as a special thing... i was reading that trek and specialized are starting plan to recycle their frames. i can't see one sided bikes ever taking off for trials, theres to much twisting and stuff, if it was viable surely there would be road bikes doing it? or at least companies experiementing with it?
  7. i serviced my pro2 once, but i never really exposed to it anything other than street and fair weather... they're well made so they tend to resist the shite that you throw at them. but you just wanna clean the freehub out and re-oil it every now and then if you must... my maintenance tends to consist of checking my spoke tension every few weeks or before/after a significant ride (if i'm not riding local, or theres a few people comming up, i don't wanna be that guy just sorting my bike...) freewheel usually gets looked at every 3-4 months, usually i'll replce my chain at the same time, it doesn't hurt to actually inspect your chain thoroughly every few weeks too incase links are splaying out or failing... i just bought a cheap torque wrench, so i've added lubing and evenly tensioning bolts to my job list, it's quite nice having a properly tensioned 4 bolt clamp haha.
  8. eno. it's the best made, feels a little slow compared to a 108, but i accept the tradeoff for the reliability it offers.
  9. f**k up their cars.
  10. you don't wanna put water in them, they aren't a closed system like maguras, and discs heat up, rim brakes don't (as much at least) so you'll have problems all the way.

i hate to be all, but mines different, but it's final year coursework that makes up 50% of my module, so it's alot more demanding than anything i've played with before. but i think it'll be allllright.
  12. good to see you can get a 26" for less than a grand that matches the weight of this thing... who says trials is expensive?

had to get an extension for an essay, haven't needed to do this ever before, feel like i've let myself down. least i won't be pulling all nighters but i'm still miffed.

would be worth it for the option of a very consistent braking.. super tidy build otherwise.
  15. how would you be cooling the indoor bit? where would the event be? if it's more accessible by train than radfest i'll probably be there..
  16. wouldn't an indoor event be more popular in the winter? and outdoors in the summer...
  17. this one? they aren't available in the uk, so i'd doubt anyone will have any experience, i'd be worried about the 144 ratchet points as it's allot of material to take out of the outer ring. and how it's designed to engage. if it's all 12 pawls landing at once it could be amazing as the strain would be nicely distributed

    tyre boots

Hey i have a fairly new conti gatorskin, i had a crash a few months ago and put 3 small holes in the sidewalls. i've been riding with the same tyre ever since. Today my tube burst as a result. i've got these tyre boots i've cut one boot to patch the three holes, fixed the puncture and left the wheel with 120 psi in it. the tyre comes out of profile a tiny amount where the tears are, but nothing like before. do you think i'll be alright using the tyre, or should i stop being tight and get a new one?
  19. the boardman full sussers are really nice, we've had 2 out of our store in the last few weeks and they seemed good when i was dicking about in the warehouse with them, i don't really do off roading but i'd certainly consider one..

new crewkers 20" has vertical dropouts, and no disc mount or disc hub. surely adding tabs to the frame couldn't have bumped the price that much.
  21. yeah but the xt, or xtr lever is way more expensive than the 5 or 7, so it's not really a fair comparison. you are right on the rattle point though, when they start to develop play they are a bit pants, but for the cost i wouldn't complain
  22. the fr5 is better than the sd7... far stiffer in my experience. shimano levers tend to be the way to go; the servo wave tech gives you daft power.
  23. some perform well, others just seem to under perform. the bb7 consistently delivers on performance, which for trials is what you want...
  24. now i see, that would solve my problems.may need to measure my dropouts and get an order in.
