The Cycle Show 2007

Thought I would let everyone know in some detail about the Onza trials competition thats held at the Cycle2007 show in London. Right , this year the show is being held at Earls Court Exhibition Centre in London.

As some of you might know in the previous couple of years the show has been at the Excel exhibition center and the trials arena has been approx 250 sq meters.

This year due to the change of venue the trials course has been increased to a huge 595 sq meters with a massive 700 seat tiered grandstand.

Riders and format have not been confirmed as yet but there should be some world class European riders there battling it out for the £3000 prize fund.

Team format should be a Great Britain Vs Europe style where 2 riders from each country flex their skills in a traditional observed trials followed by a tantalizing speed trial when the teams race over the course.

This will be an excellent show to be viewed by all class's of riders from trials newbies to senior pros.

The competition starts on Friday the 12th of Oct and follows through to Sunday the 14th Oct, so please get the time off to support this three day grueling event. Any further information please feel free to ask.

Not too sure what time the first round will start, Get there early ;)

Teams have not been confirmed yet but we are talking to some high profile European riders.

I can confirm the Onza GB team : Danny Butler, Ben Slinger, Rob Poyser and Special guest rider Andrei Burton.

Will there be a purpose built trials rig for us non comp riders? this would make a better turnout for the general public to see how big the dedicated fan base is, and help promote the sport commercially for bigger things esspecially with the Bejing 2008, an London 2012 olympics. trials needs public interest. just showing top riders on a course isnt enough to promote public interest. the public need to see that the sport is not too specialist.

Sorry guys, Health and safety reasons. 20 foot drop on the head for a 13 year old would not be the best press for the cycle show. :(

At full capacity we might get 1000 people watching the show, thats about the most interest we can get. To be honest, name another show or comp that gets that much interest from the general public? Ha ha I can see me being corrected here.

Well excuse me, but plenty of the comp riders had crashes galore in front of the public, so that health and safety excuse doesnt completely wash through. just build something technically challenging minus the skyscraper sized drops (5-6ft max drop is safe enough for us non comp riders). you can even assess each rider skill if necessary. just have one course for beginners and one course for us dedicated non comp riders with stewards observing us. this show should be about promoting the sport and not showing that trials is just only for elite riders. its no different to bmx. not every rider is gonna be the next Matt Hoffman or Jamie Bestwick, but they will be inspired to start from the bottom of the bike stunt skills table and work their way up to their comfortable level of progression. just get people participating by riding the bikes in a secure arena learning the basics of balance and control. have prize draw competitions to win a basic trials bike. surely you can see that is not a bad thing! all you guys are doing is just entertaining people with something that looks amazing. you need interaction/participation which increases the following and makes the sport grow and hopefully get the same kind of support that bmx is gonna get in 2008.

It was something like 8 quid for kids without parents, and 5 or something for kids with parents, so the safe ticket woman said go in with the people infront (a couple, right age to be our parents) so we got in cheaper.

Kids these days :S

The Cycle show ask us for a competition not a test area. The Cycle show supply a test track, maybe not a trials course but somewhere to ride. To answer your question in a fully 'washable' fashion. The Cycle show do not want the public riding on our course. It would be a loverly idea if we were allowed to, Had the test bikes, Time, Space and man power to do so.
