I would've thought the Gs at 5000mph would be significant?

G forces only affect you when it's accelerating/ slowing down/ turning/ whatever, so if that was done in an appropriate manner (i.e not going POWERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR to accelerate and being gentle with it) you could go as fast as you like and not really notice it.

It won't be long until everything in life will be networked, like on the internet where your Msn messenger displays your Hotmail, the way that Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo and such are all interlinked.

My bosses new Peugeot Partner van instantly synchronises with his contacts on his phone when he gets in the van, he has a nice clear display of all the names and numbers on his phone on the dashboard, and can cycle through them with the stalk controls. And all this is completely standard with the van. Slowly the majority of cars on the road are being replaced with newer ones, what was an old car will be really old, and current new will become old. Of course its respective technology that comes with it will be gone and replaced.

Computers aren't even needed for internet anymore, the technology is all useable from a mobile phone, what other devices will be able to harness it in the future? How long will it be until we as humans have the internet built into us? Every unknown answer could be searched on the internet just by thinking about it, never will someone have to ask for the time, last bus, directions, or shop closing times again.

What about controlling everyday items such as lights and doors without lifting a finger, well its been done.

Teleportation. Will revolutionise the world once over, its already been successful to separate light particles, send them as data and reassemble once received at the other end. Just think, there will be no delay of days waiting for a package to arrive, no jet-lag travelling to a foreign country. Teleportation will eradicate many jobs, establishments, companies and organisations in the same way that the internet has killed normal aspects of everyday life.

Newtons first law of motion.

I'd pay to go to america in a concorde. It's a case of, if the concorde was brought back I'd definately go, but as it is, it could be a long time.

Are you saying the reason you don't want to goto America is because it takes too long?

Random one for you, there is a Concorde in France at the Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport which was supposed to be kept in "ground running" condition but they have to ask permission and start it up at special times.

They've been starting it up willy nilly and a few months back they did it whilst a health and safety inspector was on site and the chances are it's going to be cut up because they can't be trusted with it...

Not many people know about this yet (Y)

Why do they need permission? A plane doesn't need to be airworthy to do ground runs. They do them often in this country and they are poorly regulated, an example being when they accidentally took a victor off the ground a few months back (Which weirdly appeared in the mail today for some reason link).

Sort of. I can't be f**ked to sit on a plane for 8hrs. It's also probably gonna cost a lot, so it's not something I'm gonna do soon.

Concorde would cost a lot more!

Average price UK to USA is around 400 to 500 pounds. The fight time isn't too bad actually, you watch a couple of movies, boom, there goes 3h 20 mins. Couple of meals will kill an hour or so. Best thing to do is just goto sleep.

Yeah, but seriously... Why would you want to go to America? It's full of bloody Americans for a start. Who voted for George Bush to be President. Twice. That's enough reason for me never to want to set foot in the place.

I went to Canada for few weeks back in 2007 and we went down to Niagara Falls (had to be done). I 100% point blank refused to drive over the bridge so we could say we'd been to the US. Although I was tempted to go over just so I could use the facilities so I could say I'd shat on America... :P

That was at an Air Show Adam, if they kept starting that up as and when they pleased how long do you think it would be before they got in trouble for it ?

The concorde would be awesome!

I see your point though.

~Never, unless it somehow compromised the safety of other aircraft/ people/ buildings. Without going into all the boring rules you can do pretty much whatever you like with a non airworthy aircraft on the ground, it's essentially just a jet dragster with wings, no regulation. It sounds very much like a pub tale to me, especially seeing as to start it you'd need a sizeable ground crew and several thousand euros worth of fuel each time.

Is supersonic airline travel gonna happen again? With the current technology I doubt it, unless an airline wants to use it as a loss making flagship. All the development in commercial aviation at the moment is focussed on economy and reducing the environmental impact, supersonic travel is neither cheap nor environmentally friendly... Supersonic personal travel is already a reality though, and can be done at a relatively modest cost.

How?

As an example link, does mach 1.3, at a guess would use about £500-1000 of fuel an hour. Not exactly comfortable or luxurious, but if you wanted to get somewhere very fast... There's also a few supersonic light transport planes knocking around for under a million iirc. Not exactly cheap, but compared to other aircraft prices it's not bad at all.

I reckon a Gnat would do 600 maybe 700 miles per hour at a push and the £500 - £1000 an hour fuel is all well and good, but it wouldn't even run for an hour as it doesn't have the fuel capacity. Sorry to shit on your potatos, but I don't think you'd find anything on a remotely modest budget that would take you a useful distance (ie more than 500 miles) at supersonic speeds, and certainly not something that old.

The maximum range is 1150 statute miles. It's still supersonic travel for a modest budget though, even if it's not the most elegant solution it'd still get you a good distance.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folland_Gnat

The Folland Gnat was a small, swept-wing British subsonic jet trainer and light fighter aircraft developed for the Royal Air Force, and flown extensively by the Indian Air Force. It was designed by W.E.W. Petter, and first flew in 1955. Its design was such that it could be built without specialised tools by countries that were not highly industrialised.[1][2] Although never used as a fighter by the Royal Air Force (RAF), the "Gnat T.1" trainer variant was widely used. The Gnat became well known as the mount for the RAF Red Arrows aerobatic team.

Even more awesome when you hit the ground nose first at 300 mph because the whole back end of the aircraft is on fire.

Aahh, but that's because they're old.

If they made new ones, it would be fine. :P

Basically, the only way for one to get a concorde to america now is if they make more.
