trialsiain
Well Im putting my Der kaiser on and the rotation arrows state it should have the ramped tread forward (which is better for rolling obv) ... For trials should i put it on backwards so that the square knobs grip on stuff ? Or will it make it really slow
SamKidney
Cant imagine its going to matter. I just run them as per the directional arrow. Never felt a noticable difference.
Jake.
It's for mud/stone shedding on dh/mtbs etc. Put it on whichever way round you want.
Blake
I run both my tyres the wrong way round. I'm not sure why. It makes me feel like a rebel
monkeyseemonkeydo
Some tyres lend themselves to being run certain ways round to get the most traction in a certain direction. The way to run them in trials isn't necessarily the way they would be used on a normal MTB. Generally depends on the tyre and whether you're looking at front or rear. Ross McArthur
The ramped tread will grip better the "wrong" way round. Try it on the edge of a wall before you put it on the bike. The higher part of the tread is right angled unlike the bottom part of the tread which just slopes/runs into the carcase.

I can imagine this would help accerlation on mountain bikes but would skid easier when slowing down.Acceleration*

bing
I can't run tyres the wrong way round, it does my head in. Kind of a mild form of OCD. I can't bring myself to do it, no matter how big the difference is. It's just wrong lol

jack dickinson
i assume that you get more grip when the tyre is facing forwards because you get more surface area touching the corner ( of a wall or ledge etc.) because of low tyre pressures ran in trials. i could be wrong its just an assumption
trialsiain
I have put it on backwards. I've been missing out on these Der kaisers. First impressions are super grippy and a nice bounce
N.Wood
I change mine depending on what I'm likely to be riding that day. Mud I run them the right way for better accelleration, then sections with rocks that needs better grip 'backwards' I will have my mech change it.
Lord Banks
Theoretically yes, mountain bike tires are designed with forward momentum/friction/braking in mind. But the forces on a trials tire (generally) tend to be rearward forces, so it would make more sense to run them backwards. Although if they’re trails specific tires, you should probably run them as directed. This maybe complete nonsense in the Street style of riding though, but from a Natural Trials point of view it makes sense (to me at least). Blake
Try all tyres have the rotation arrow pointing the "wrong" way
