    Credit Cards.

+1 I'd suggest buying something for someone else which is expensive and getting them to give you the money, thus you get the cash on 0%
  2. Just saw the topic on my iPhone and went to a computer in my hostel in Croatia to give you a reply but Simon's got there first I'd say exactly what he does. Be confident and I think that your current knowledge will suffice in as much as to start you off in that career path. All you need to know is that for your wording you need to be pin point and have good grammar for statements etc. Web content needs to be concise and accurate while giving the 'right' amount of information. Basic HTML should be absolutely fine as Simon said I think that any kind of input for the website by you will be done in a pretty easy to use form, either as an online web form using databases or maybe an application which is fairly opensource. Either way, it isn't hard for program developers to make it easy to use for you. In regards to marketing I think that maybe you should look in to the company that your interview is with. Knowing a lot about them looks very good for you in the interview and you can give good examples of when you think your personal attributes can contribute to their long term strategies, usually making lots of profits! Then last I guess just relax, be yourself. A lot of employers much prefer you to say 'I don't know the answer to that', followed by you actually enquiring in to it and discussing it. Just because you don't know the terminology which might be most common, doesn't mean you are below the whole concept. My managers at work are happy if I don't know something, and just suggest us to admit we don't know, and suggest to customers or clients that we'll find out and get back to them. They can't expect everyone to know everything, and it's much easier to teach an employee some basic web editing / content scripting / etc skills than it is traits like focus, drive, honesty etc. Hope you found this helpful, I'll go back to my holiday
  3. Pretty much all MP3 players will be of similar quality. The coding of the song (bitrate aswell as type; AAC, MP3 etc) impact much much more. I'd just go for an iPod Nano 8gb for £129 and use itunes to use Apple Lossless coding for it. Best way
  4. Some useful tips to remember about student bank accounts are that the offers like free rail cards expire fairly early so don't miss out 'cos they're worth taking advantage of, also you need to have your wage (if you have one) as well as your student loan going in to that account. I had it going in to another and got bollocked haha.
  5. I'm going on Holiday on Monday and have left it stupidly late to arrange buying a camera for it. I bought a Canon IXUS 75 from Currys for £129.99 and I'm not sure on how much I like it. The picture quality is average and I think there might be better out there. I'm not too bothered about spending a little more money to get a much better camera. Any input would be really helpful, and local stores only (Meadowhall or town centres) because I've only got tomorrow and the weekend! Thank you!
  6. Taking pics of them next Tues!

    Jobs At Uni

What use is a f**king degree in Japanese from Oxford when you're going to be an Accountant? I'm surprised if she's even the tea girl.
  8. What are 'Macshops'?
  9. Anyone know who Mary-Anne Hobbs is?
  10. oh my god they are poor. Don't get wireless.
  11. I didn't know how much I liked a girl that I've been seeing pretty much all of first year of University, since January at least. She moved out today to go back down south for the Summer, and I'm up here for 2 weeks working, 4 weeks in Europe then mostly in Sheffield after that. My halls just feel so empty without her, knowing that I can't just go call round to chill out for a bit. Pretty f**king shit.

    Saving

ISA's are a really good idea, as said before. I opened one last year and have saved £2k inheritance in it, and as much as I can from my part-time job meaning I've got about £5k in it now which is stupidly good for me. I'm one of those people who has difficulty saving too but having a book which you don't have a debit card for makes it much harder to spend your dosh, plus it's a nice feeling being able to read through it and know how much you've saved up! I'm spending £1k of it on a holiday this summer but it'll be awesome and worth the spending. Try to put away like 50% of what you get paid a week or month in to it and then although you'll be fairly 'skint' for buying drinks, in a few months you'll have a good kitty to buy something you want! Ps, Mine's with Yorkshire Building Society and they're pretty good, high interest etc.

    Macbooks

Very very unlikely to be in the next 2-3 months.

    Macbooks

Yeah I see your point, but the thing is mine's my online computer, and I use it a lot. If you need to use it at your ONLY computer that's when it's problematic, you either need to buy the lush USB optical superdrive for £55 I think, or use the software with the MBA to allow it to use a PC/Mac's optical drive wirelessly which is good. I think that out and about it's pretty unlikely you'll need one too

    Macbooks

The MacBook Air's are actually pretty sturdy for people who haven't held one in their hand. They're the same construction as the MacBook Pro's and have a good internal design meaning if you DO knock it off a table or whatever, it's unlikely to damage the hard drive or logic board which is really good and not many people know. I'd be tempted to go for a top-end MacBook or a second hand MacBook Pro. If you're willing to spend £1199 on the MBA then you should just look at a MacBook Pro for £1-1.1k and make sure it's got Applecare. Means any hardware issues or whatever are covered so you're pretty safe to buy. The MBA is a fairly good machine for people who either need an ultra-portable (E.G. business men/women, designers to show clients work or such), or have too much money and use it for an internet/msn/email computer in their homes. That's literally the only people it's good for. That's my opinion anyway, The trade offs of not having an optical drive, a much slower processor and still shared graphics (as with the MacBook) kind of suck, especially for the price. And 80 GB is hardly a lot for hard drive. Are you definitely stuck on a brand new machine? Because I'd go for something like this if you don't mind buying from eBay.
  16. I might not sell it for a little bit. I'll see what spec the next ones are But yeah, even the most basic ones will run it all fine.
  17. A lot of them will require you to sign a particular contract or pay a tiny bit extra a month so that you can upgrade after 12 months in an 18 month contract. Enquire about it but unless you know about it, it's unlikely.
  18. Yeah it's just the MacBook's and MacBook Air's that have shared memory / integrated graphics cards. The suckkkkk haha. The iMac's aren't too bad at all and have been updated recently so the 2.8ghz would be swish. I think that a MBP would be a better thing though, portable, better for photog trips, slower processors but better graphics overall like Tomm said. I've had my MBP for nearly a year now and it's absolutely awesome. Perfectly suited with 4gb of ram to run all CS3 and more. Plus I know that if I want to take it to Uni to do lecture notes, work at the library or home to visit family I've got all my stuff with me.
  19. I'd suggest downloading an application to monitor your iMac's temp such as Temp Monitor or such. Also look at your Activity monitor to see what CPU usage and what processes are running. Sometimes background processes can hog your CPU and yeah, Jon makes a good point about your Ram. The more you have in for Logic the better. Although 1GB is minimum requirements, 2GB is a must to be honest, and 4gb desirable. Logic is a real hardware-hungry application and that's why the Pro's use Mac Pro's with 4/8 cores and lots and lots of ram. When was the operating system last wiped and put back on, and what version are you using. Make sure you've done all recent updates and if needs be use your original disks to erase and install which should/will sort any software issues. Failing that then you could maybe have bad ram so install your original if you have upgraded it, or do an Apple Hardware Test (AHT) which should be on Disk 1 of your originals, allowing it to check your Logic Board, Ram, HD's, yadda yadda.... Failing that book it in at an Apple Store and get someone to look at it at the bar. If you're out of your Applecare warranty (if you had it) It'll be about £46 to diagnose any problems or even look at it after your 20 minute bar slot just for you to bear in mind..
  20. Post up some disk utility screenies of the drives you're using. Fat 32 is absolutely fine. Only problem some people have is the 4gb maximum file size which is unlikely to be effecting you. Sounds like user error, no offense.
