Nope, that frame was just designed for a trials rim, and a D521 is 28mm, that's pretty much XC by today's trials standard, or even 10+ years ago. You're gonna need a bigger rim! Your mod sounds dangerous too.

30mm is a good starting point, I wouldn't go any narrower, 35mm+ is ideal, DMR backlines are 35mm, they're basically big Deevees, and they're on ebay for £20 each. For some reason I can't paste a link here though. I've used Black Halo spokes on plenty of wheels & they're fine, so are their black nipples.

True, but you can get a used xt from about £15 if you hunt for it, even a 1998 one will do just fine.

I had an FR5 and it was a piece of crap, it's like it doesn't pull enough cable and the whole feel of it's wrong. Not used a modern SD7 but back in the day they were a good shape, but rattled too much once they were used. Can't beat an XT or XTR.

And don't use one of those shitty Avid FR5 levers, use a good one that doesn't rattle.

The bb axle to front wheel axle measurement affects that, not the head angle, the head angle could be 90 deg, but if the wheelbase is still 1000mm it'll make no difference to your feet, the wheel will be in the same place.

A mate of mine just bought an Archive frame in green. In total, with the optional heat treating and integrated chain tensioner bolts and express shipping it cost £260 including the paypal fees! No heat treating knocks off $30 (about £20) and the same for the integrated chain tensioner bolts. I've never been 100% what they cost, but there it is.

I've never stripped or broken an m5 bolt, I replaced all mine too for slightly longer high tensile ones, but I just don't trust them like I do an M6, and my bars move now & then. I'm heavy & have big bars, so I appreciate a fatter thread.

By looking at my forks here & comparing, it definitely looks like a bigger part. The welds are much further apart on the 1.5 forks, the gap on mine between the welds is only 9mm at the closest point, it's gotta be around 20mm in this pic.
