Personally I'd learn on the bike you have and leave it standard. Once you feel the bike is holding you back upgrade to a better bike and sell the bike you have now

Don't use a half link you'll hurt yourself badly. Run the slack chain and use a chain tensioner like the heatsink or a spoke.

Leave a print out of something on her desk so it looks like she's been looking at it. e.g (How to get your man to perform better in bed). He would be paranoid to f**k lol.
