    Covid19

I have several big fears. 1. Immunity doesn't last long enough and the cycle repeats with the same virus until a vaccine or treatment is found in over a years time. 2. the virus mutates enough that the vaccine isn’t super effective and the whole thing cycles on (although mutation is more likely to make it less deadly) 3. Someone in my closest circle of friends or family dies (irrational dad brain is mostly worried about griff even through he is in the lowest risk group), and has to die alone. I have some in high risk groups. I’m not sure how I’d cope with that given how seriously I’ve been taking it since it was first reported, and how many of the people I work with and some friends have treated it like a joke and behaved pretty poorly. 4. Number of people requiring treatment will massively outstrip resources and people will die needlessly because we waited to act. Numbers look pretty borderline/bad. 5. The fallout financially might (probably will) last longer than a decade, even if the virus doesn’t. I'm not in a super positive mood this morning. I also only worked out it was Sunday yesterday when I turned the telly on and antiques roadshow was on.

    Covid19

But will it come back after? in other news I found out today that nursery closed for the foreseeable yesterday. Would have been nice to have an email. Not quite sure where I stand as a key worker and paying them whilst closed.

    Covid19

Ok simple question. When do people think covid19 will be “over”? No restrictions, out of thought, just another seasonal virus we can sort easily?

Cynical me thinks Boris is full of shit so as to get some sympathy and distract everyone from how pants he has been in dealing with all this.
  5. There is a queue just to access the site we’ve managed to book a slot and fill a basket just “waiting” in a queue for checkout...
  6. paying for shopping online is like trying to get glastonbury tickets right now.

    Covid19

Day 7 is supposed to be the worst. Griffs temp has been up and down for 2 days now, but day two shut in at home was much better than day one. His cough and my cough of 3 weeks plus is still going nowhere.

    Covid19

looks like it takes 2-3 weeks for measures to kick in, given the incubation period and time to death after falling ill. My guess is our numbers will increase significantly, but not as badly as italy (although london?) as they have a significant number of oldies living with young people. Griff got a temperature last night. Only mild and griff is unbelievably prone to them, but we are in self isolating mode. Im just worried that in two weeks time when we come out and case levels are that much higher we will get it straight away and have to do it all again (assuming its not this time) work has finally seen the light and has ruled one person in a van at a time and distancing in the office as best as possible and possibly even antibac hand gel !! Edit: temp coming back up

    Covid19

Well my work have also done pretty much zero to keep people safe. No mention of staying apart even if it’s not always possible. There isn’t huge amounts of safety/cleaning gear, and some of the people I work with were the kind of people who were down the pub on Friday. One as it turns out should probably be self isolating right now...

    Covid19

It’s a fine balance, but I think in general I think people who are likely to be tempted to break the rules are likely to think “but you can go out cycling, so if I just do X, it’ll be ok” people don’t make decisions for the good of everybody on their own. Look at how awesome people are at stopping climate change for example.... Police, army, fines, cells... This is my favourite webpage right now.
  11. Nursery’s covid19 policy is different to government guidelines and will probably mean Griff will be isolated for 14 days unnecessarily, costing us a shit load having to pay nursery and not be payed by work. And then do it all again when we actually get it.

That is a cool site! Funny I was also going to suggest drivetrain as easy gains . I’d love to have a bash - looks hilarious, the whole concept of the sport looks right up my street. Maybe when I’ve finished building my man cave I’ll build one too (I’ve always wanted to learn to weld).

I’ve seen some good how to threads on TT forums and the likes (there’s even a decent ish gtn video) for diy disc wheels. Only wind tunnel results I’ve seen are from some cover manufacturers (so pinch o salt req) suggest its worth while and results can be similar to proper wheels. Only thing then is you might need skinnier tyres to get the full effect (tyre balling out on top of an aero wheel is bad) I guess at the speeds you are going and the watts you are likely to put out over a long distance means even small gains are going to be significant. ps don’t judge me - I ride a road bike now so my interest in aero bits so I can go either further or faster than my other bike dork work mates is strong.

Awesome! Is that British pedal car championship? If so I had a read of da rules and doesn’t suggest you can’t put a faring on the wheels or at least turn them into disc wheels? my only other comment would be to borrow some goons TT helmet, as your head is popped up in the airflow. Every little helps.

Knocked up a little cabinet for Claire’s Lego Harry Potter collection. Bit rough n ready but meh - it’s going in her craft room Adam - the pedal car looks awesome fun - what are the races you are entering?
  16. Well, you did a couple of different things in the builders yard and then the rest (and most of the variety) was all shot elsewhere? As a vlog style video and no explanation - it doesn’t make much sense. Also you went back to the skatepark.
  17. The title was misleading.
  18. The video at the skatepark baffles me.
  19. Some 10mm bolts that hold on a crossmember at the front of the car that needs to come out so I can remove the alternator. They are basically right under the front of the bonnet (guess that’s why they rusted) access is ok, a little tricky for one but should be good. Might try a cheap version of those Irwin ones.
  20. Plusgas has bee used excessively, I’m just not getting any luck getting any purchase on the bolt heads
  21. Any suggestions on removing bolts that have been rusted to hell and you can’t get any spanners on as the heads have lost all their shape? grind off heads and hope the core comes out ok, or try welding on another bolt?
  22. Nice! We are going next Wednesday!
