Censoring the internet from graphic content bad?
jeff costello replied to Greetings's topic in Chit Chat
do you seriously think any of that content has educational value? -
maybe they thought their riding was "inspired"....? it is after all still an english word. but i was wondering about the "damon waton" part too. i thought he might be replicating or one-upping a damon watson move. but i can't remeber his videos that well.

What improvements to Magura style hydraulic rim brakes are needed?
jeff costello replied to Heatsink's topic in Trials Chat
i'd love one with a timepiece. or a backwheel hop counter. -
and what is that exactly? from the pics i'd guess that flipp runs a 180 stem with like 2cm of stacker. on my mod i have a 165 stem with the max. amount of stackers (appr. 4,5 cm). so it should be appr. the same height, little less length.

Trying to build a more "forgiving" trials rig...
jeff costello replied to foxinsocks's topic in Trials Chat
wouldn't a very easy and cheap route be to try and use less pressure in the tires? i find that with less pressure everything's more mellow and bouncy. should be easier on your joints too. maybe try and find a a tire / rim set up that lets you use very low pressure instead of changing the frame? -
that was my first guess as well. but i checked and i had appr. 3mm of space between top of steerer and top of stem. my explanation is this: the top washer of the echo headset has a bit of a groove and the echo spacer fits right in there. while the fatter hope one just sits on top. no idea whether this is really true though. you can see the groove a little bit in this pic (the silver one on the left):

i think i solved it! luckily it was none of that. thanks! this helped me find the culprit! turning the wheel around, i could more clearly see it moving. it was definitely the steerer shaft moving around. the mysterious problem was: i had been using a hope spacer set and (i think) it sits wrongly on the top part of the echo headset. with the wrong spacer i could not get enough tension from the headnut. i added the original echo-spacer at the bottom and the wobble's now gone. the echo spacer is visibly thinner than the hope ones.

i've been slowly trying to-fronts (very timidly, just on flat earth) and now i've noticed that the headset has developed some play under force. when i hit the front brake and heavily lean on the bars, i can sense it move quite a bit. i've took it apart and everything seems to run smooth and sit tight. the headnut is as tight as i can do by hand (with a pretty big allen wrench). the forks are echo urban and the headset is some kind of echo too (TR, i think). is that normal with trial bikes or is my headset damaged? if i keep riding like this will it possibly damage my headtube? or can i just keep riding it until the headset falls properly apart? thanks.

what's harder manuals with or without pedalling? i can't manual at all. so lately i've been doing this: i start out standing on the backwheel, then lower my ass and try to pedal a few meters. been trying for a few days now and i can manage about one full turn of the cranks now. dismal, i know. but the best i can do now. there's something visceral against leaning back on bikes in me. takes me forever to learn.

don't f**k with muscle dog!

i really don't like the 1.5x gearing, so the smaller cog is the main reason for me to get one.

nice bike! could you give a little more info on how you got that hope hub to fit? i'm thinking about getting a hope bmx for my mod, but unfortunately i'm pretty broke right now. but i do have an almost brand new hope pro2 singlespeed around (it's in my 4play which i'm not riding at all since i got the mod).
-
but those are weirdo sizes, aren't they?
-
why would a bmx hub have to be modified?
-
i loved the part with the changing people on the stairs in the background.

Attempting to start trials again- Any tips?
jeff costello replied to ZZZAC's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
sorry about your bad experience. but that lacing of hub and spokes totally does not look kosher as well. -
probably not what you're looking for but profile racing does have titanium axles: link
-
i do. but i'm also pretty far from "going big", to be quite frank...
-
thanks for the reply, bersha! iirc rockman greens are advertised for unground rims. magura originals too.
-
are heatsink yellows really the thing to use with unground rims? tarty recommends them with a grind. i am running unground rims (lazyness and also don't own a grinder or a place where i would like to use it) and will get new pads soonish.

probably very stupid bash ring question
jeff costello replied to jeff costello's topic in Trials Chat
thanks! now i can switch to a hope bmx rear hub without having to get a new front drive train as well!! (i hope i run into some money soon...) -
hi, could i take a standard bash ring for a ffw crank and mount it on the bottom bracket instead? like one of those aren't freewheels and bottom brackets both bsa and hence the same size of thread? this would mean the bash would fit between bb cup and frame too? (i know the chainline will shift a bit, but i'm not too concerned with that) background: i use a bmx crank in the front. i have 25t sprocket with a bash on right now, but i might want to go down to an 18t sprocket. i do have the sprocket, but there isn't a bashring for that size available anywhere. running the chain without a bash freaks me out. if someone could measure the inside diameter of one of those bashs, that would be very helpful as well. thanks.

French National Champion Marion Porcher (22 years-old) - Bad Crash
jeff costello replied to Paperclip's topic in Trials Chat
it says here that it was cancelled because of an "orage" (thunderstorm) and will be continued tomorrow midday. they did eliminate the section she crashed in out of the course though. edit: you were right it say here that 20" and women's were cancelled indeed because of the accident. -
thanks! will do that when the problem arises next time.
