adding the kick is a lot easier when just practicing, totally different feel when next to a wall.
-
sorry, then it was general ironic talk i got into the wrong pipe. (not a native speaker)

you're bent on making fun of me, aren't you? please go on.... i'm surprised by this because i thought that i'd jump higher. but as niconj mentioned somewhere before, there really seems to be a difference between quick muscle release and slower.
-
this is actually interesting. i just tried my vertical height and it's only about 45cm (maybe add a few because of the very crude measuring technique: colored chalk on finger on pitched roof area of my apartment). and i don't even have weak legs. i could do ten one footed squats on my right foot (left is a lot worse) not too long ago. i'm not that light either: usually about 80 kilo. i need to train this more. even with such a simple thing i find it hard to get the coordination down, releasing all muscles at the same time. thanks.

i don't have carthy bars. right now i feel they are perfect when a tiny bit more forward than vertical. i was mostly surprised that tiny amounts of adjustments make a huge difference in how the bike feels. - just posted a pic in the pictures thread. stem is 165 on a mod, don't think that's excessive. i did try different heights (amount of stackers under the stem), but i found that rotation changes things much more. 1cm more or less under the stem - didn't feel much different. and yes, being too much forward while jumping is exactly what i was identifying as my problem. but i don't think it's my excessive setup, it's just learning good posture.

i think i'm on the right path. keeping the back vertical seems the crucial part. things i'm focusing on right now: - keep ass above back hub - keep back (what feels like) vertical - tuck if you lean back while crouching before the jump, at a certain point you feel wedged in on the bike, a certain force that goes from your legs to the pedals. at first it feels weird, but i think it's the right thing. in your video you seem to be hunched too far forward too. also: handlebar rotation! i didn't not expect to have arcseconds make this much of a difference. a tiny amount more back and it feels cramped and like pulling at a wrong angle. at bit more forward and i can't properly grip the bars (middle finger feels too distant to bars). now i got it right and it feels super comfortable again on the back wheel.

i guess this won't be consensual, but i love the thing. i do plan on updating the drive train sooner or later, but i'm fine with it for now.

this might be something for you: can't embed bandcamp. here's it. link to the whole album.

enough with the shitty tourism commericals!

actually, i didn't want to sound smartassy. i'm wondering myself whether this is the way ahead. you posted about something i was thinking about too these days (i watched that same bersha side hop in loop for quite a while as well), i'm just curious if the same thing would work in your case too.
-
there's this one thing i just noticed - maybe it doesn't apply to you, because you have better posture on the bike than me, but maybe you can try and it's the same in your case. you're a bit ahead of my skills-wise, but not that much (i think) and i've been training quite a bit lately. i sidehop only 50cm but i haven't trained for height that much. i noticed that i was leaning too much forward when going down for the pre-load. when on the backwheel pull your handlebars a little closer to your hips than normal, then squat, lower front and jump. this makes my jumping posture a lot closer to as without a bike (back straighter). i think this helps to better transfer strength into movement. but i'm not really sure, i only found out a few days ago and i'm learning to change my technique / find the best technique.

do people inhale the stuff (when not used for cigarette/nicotine-substitution)?

i think the phrase you're looking for is "mastercard versa".

mark, no idea then. i guess it was just worn down then. sorry, i reached max spacers. i don't really want to cut the steerer, because i fear i might regret it later. also, even though i'm just of average height, i quite like the high front. i know low and flat is canonical, but i like the bit extra streetishness, how easily it goes up on the backwheel.

yeah, what chain? the kmc 710 fits on the arade sprocket easily.

ugly, but it works. no wobble after the first ride. so success, i hope. maybe the bottom cup of the echo headset was the real culprit. the bearing always immediately slid out of it when i took the think apart. general last question about trials and headsets: do headsets get loose after a while of trials use and need re-tensioning? or do you just set it up once and it's set forever?
-
no no no, of course i couldn't see the bearing. there's the top cap in the way. i added this only to properly describe where i saw it moving. since i've now exchanged every party involved apart from the frame, i hope i'm fine now. thanks for your constant effort and good advice (and everyone else's of course).

i've been using it for about a year and a half, usually for an hour a day. so maybe it might be old age? beginner stuff only though, no to-fronts or hooks or any of that. also i've moved the headset from my inspired to my new mod last christmas (i normally leave headsets in place, but funds were small), maybe i did some damage then. at least the new one doesn't move, even if i lean on it my heaviest. even with the botch job i could clearly see the steerer move in the hole of the top bearing. but i'll see for real when i take it for a ride tomorrow morning.
-
botch job still wobbled. now running the whole ritchey headset. no wobble for now.... i really hate the person who designed that clunker.
-
while trying to leverage the thing out with a screwdriver (upper cup stuck in there pretty good) the thing came out in pieces: first the inner ring, then the rest. even a ball popped out. if it were really necessary, put back together i think it would work for a few more day. but i had the ritchey bearings around and they fit. didn't use the ritchey cups, top plastic race and cover though, because they are superugly. seems to work fine for now. taking it for a test ride tomorrow morning.
-
thanks! but no use anymore. i damaged the top bearing trying to pry it out.. now running a botch job of echo cups and ritchey bearing / crown race. we'll see what happens...
-
i think the problem's still there. probably the spacer wasn't it after all. quick question for elimination: with headsets (echo in my case) are the top and bottom bearing identical? - in other words: do i have to check whether they are mounted in the correct position?
