Liverpool Ride On Friday, August The 12th
Tony Harrison replied to Chris Cook's topic in Member Organised Rides
I meant week days in general. No more school (or holidays) for me. Not too bothered anyway, since I live in Liverpool (5 min walk from Lime St) and everything has been 'sessioned to death'. BTW, check this guy out >>> (Y) -
Thanks everyone. I know which I'm going to buy now. (Y)

I'm going to buy a new disk tomorrow for the angle grinder - what sort it best? Stone, metal, playdoh?

Yes, school days are shit for us. -
Yes James, it's your bog standard 'read three words of the first post and spout out a load of irrelevant crap' type response. Annoying isn't it. Would be fun watching him try and wind a hope headset all the way into an 'integrated' head tube...
-
It would just be generally shit. In general.
-
P.S. Reset the b*****d then (as in, turn it off then on again).

Yes, this guy understands. On laptops there is a numerical keypad on the main keyboard (as it doesn't have a separate one). When you press NumLock (sometimes by accident) then it activates the numbers, and so you get numbers instead of letters. It's nothing to do with America. They have letters like 'p', 'l' and 'k' too you know...

He'll be like the Dougie Lampkin of the Biketrials world.

How was that being UCI??
-
There was an 1100 version too.

The decision must come from you, seeing as you decided to ride in the first place. I think it's important to stay in touch with the reasons why we ride. I ride for one reason only - to enjoy myself. I wouldn't bother going outside with my bike for any other reason, with the exception (possibly) of being given money for doing so. If you aren't enjoying riding, give it a break. I stopped trials for a few months at the start of the year because I got fed up with going on rides where all people did was 'tap' and 'sidehop' identical walls. All seemed a bit 'dead end' to me. I started riding BMX and found that there were far more possibilities, and people tended to do their own thing rather than following the crowd. However, when it started getting sunny again and people were riding trials more, I felt inspired to get my bike sorted again. Riding at the skateparks costs money, a train ride and I have to wait ages for skaters to get out the way. At the moment I'm enjoying riding my trials bike, but no doubt when it gets colder again I'll ride the BMX more. I do whatever suits me at the time - I don't feel the need to be 'pure' and stick to one.

One of the best rides I had was yesterday in the rain. I had decided that due to the slippery conditions and not-so-good braking that I wouldn't try anything big or near my limits - instead I practiced things that I knew were well within my limits. I found this refreshing and enjoyable, as I didn't fall off and get pissed off, and I didn't feel pressure to try and nail 'benchmark' sidehops/taps to prove to myself I could still do them. I think leaving things that you can't do is a good idea (like you say). There seem to be two attitudes to this... some people say that if you don't keep trying, you won't ever learn things. I.e. they think it would be best to have 20-30 attempts until something breaks. I think this is stupid - I would rather have 3-4 attempts and then come back another day/time. I think it's easy to forget that we all ride for fun. If it stops being fun, move to a different spot and try something else! Works for me (sometimes) anyway... P.S. I particularly liked the star/rainbow combo on the blue bear. Thanks for that.

Forget firewalls and virus guards. Anyone with a basic knowledge of BASIC can create an Excel/Word/Powerpoint document that will do these sorts of things. It's easy as you like (especially with Office 2000 onwards). Usually if the document contains a macro, a warning message box appears, saying that if the macros are allowed to run then harm can be done. If you click 'yes' then you could be doomed... Virus guards won't pick this up because it is not a virus - it is a coded (but not compiled) macro running from an Office document. Firewalls are useless as the file download would be allowed by the user, and when it runs it isn't using the network/internet connection, so the firewall has no effect. As for this file, I haven't heard of it, but it wouldn't take a genius to create this kind of document... EDIT: Although, having checked out that McAfee link, perhaps virus guards do now cover files like this (but surely only if they know the exact filename of the hoax? Although, since VBA does not compile, you can easily extract the source code from the document and scan it for harmful code...). So, if virus guards CAN protect against these sorts of files, then... I've learnt something new today. Thanks.

I might get the afternoon off work, and Danny might too. Adam will probably be smoking himself stupid somewhere, and Lee will be working. -
Ok, here's a few more. I took some more of Ashton but I can't copy them off the memory card because my lady friend has taken my camera to China with her. When I sort them out, I'll post them. Yeah, this section was tricky and long. Speaks for itself. How many other riders wouldn't use a technical dab here? One of Vincent's 9 dabs On his way to an easy clean Thought you'd all like this one! Vinny wasn't happy (at all) when he landed off this and had to dab to keep his balance. Thanks to that dab he only won by a clear 29 marks...

They do look nice, but Chris Doney was riding a Caisso at Addingham. Perhaps he just prefers that for the competitions... Check the site early next week Yeah, when Kev rides them they do...
-
Just for you Wayne... P.S. Check Akrigg in the top one - looks like he's sizing something up...
-
Yeah, Bangor to Kent is going 'across the grain' a bit - Scotland should be an easier drive. I might go, but I'm not sure yet.
-
Clean grips, clean bars, gloss spray paint. Done.
-
Not gonna go on about how crap Halfords are, but somehow I just knew that this would be about a Halfords job. Clean shoes Clean breath If you're wearing a tie, do it up properly, not hanging off your neck like an office junior Be honest and enthusiastic - you want this job

Luke it's ok, I'm not that easily embarassed. :( Still, I'm not that keen on the concept of 'idols' - I respect lots of different people for different reasons. As far as trials riders go the Martins get my respect for putting such a good face on bike trials. If I hadn't seen their articles in MBUK and watched them on T&S and Chainspotting I would never have got into trials. For that, I thank them. Yeah, well done to them for turning up and riding, but Vinny's performance was just unreal. There seemed to be so few spectators watching Vinny (all too busy humping Benito or Cesar's legs?), and they missed out. Just... unbelievable.

How do you know it is a beast then?
-
Pyle station is probably the closest...
