I think it's because they're cheaper to make. And for compatibility with other people's hardware. The biggest problem I have with macs (as far as hardware is concerned) is that they're virtually un-upgradeable (when compared to a PC) . Looks like things are changing now though.. It started when they moved over to Unix (MacOS X) and Intel based hardware. I reckon within 5-10 years there'll be no at all difference between a Mac and a PC apart from the OS ( I think we know who'll win that fight - poor old microsoft )

I have - i thought they were proper old but it seems not.. http://www.bikedock.com/posit/shop/index.p...gory=35&group=2 Mission Bikes Compo 2005 BB looks far too low if you ask me - at least an inch or so lower than a t-pro.

You think that's silly? - you should see him ride a halfpipe...
-
In essence, yes. As long as it's not obviously ripped off you should be ok. I wouldn't worry about contacting the publishers - If they're selling you the stock then they're obviously going to be fine with you advertising it.

Copyright wise... you can rewrite a description of a game in your own words and publish it you can't copy&paste a description of a game (or large chunks of it) and publish it. with copyright, you're guilty before anyone complains (i think - ask a lawyer) .. If we're talking Intellectual Property rights - which you may be in some cases. It's the offended party's responsibility to complain - not your responsibility to ask for permission. You're not guilty until someone complains. eg. If you drew an accurate picture of spiderman but called him arachno-man and published it you'd be fine unless Fox complained (I think they still own him). It's also their responsibility to set a precedent - ie. If they've let others get away with it then they pretty much have to let you get away with it (which is why Fox don't let anyone get away with anything) Anyway - in practice, the likelyhood of you getting in any trouble for re-using a screenshot of a game is pretty low. I used to work building sites for a web travel agent in greece and we used to steal pictures wholesale from all over the place, We were blatantly making money off other peoples work and we never got in any trouble (I quit for ethical reasons in the end - well, that and cos the tax over there is fooking horrendous) As long as you aren't ripping off whole articles without even making the effort to rearrange the odd full stop or correct their spelling you ought to be ok.

It looks like Julien's updated his hooking tutorial recently (probably because he was really nailing them on sunday) www.trashzen.com climbing > hooking the front wheel
-
try them on something higher ? - can't hook it if your backwheel isn't hanging off the ground.

it all depends how im feeling before i pick up a game. if im right pissed off and then play something violent i come away all calm . For a really foul mood it has to be SOF2 - nothing Ive ever played compares to that level of violence however, if i'm in a good mood and i play something violent I get all arsey and excited afterwards. I'm a bit strange cos I almost never lose my temper with computers anymore ooh - a vaguely related thing i remember from researching dissertations at university .... (this is somebody famous's idea so don't quote it without finding out who said it) boys tend to prefer games where you break things (quake) and girls tend to prefer games where you tidy stuff up(tetris)...

I looked at Unity last night - assuming you're talking about the MacOS one I take back everything I said about modding UT2004 being a better idea. It looks fooking excellent, I've used loads of game dev kits in the past and Unity looks like it shits on all of them. I'm half tempted to get a dirty Mac after seeing it.

that's karma that is. see what happens when you steal . (without proper virus protection)

another 3 golden rules ... aluminium is softer than steel aluminium doesnt bend much lube is different from wd40

I think it'd work the other way round, ie. the chain would remain stationary while you were freewheeling and you'd get an engagement on both if you pedalled - they wouldn't necessarily happen at the same time though. If by some freak accident you managed to line it right you could end up with double the engagements. The downside being that you wouldn't be able to get up anything cos your gearing would be too slack...
-
It wouldn't let you pedal backwards unless you ran a left-handed freewheel - which you wouldn't be able to put on. you'd just end up with extra weight, more chance of bits failing and unless you were very lucky you'd probably end up with uneven engagements - which'd confuse the shit out of me. if you change anything, run a fixed cog up front and a freewheel on the back, that will at least increase your engagements over running FFW. If you do that you'll need to run a 27 tooth cog on the front to get the 'correct' gearing. If you want improvements in the drivetrain just buy an eno.

yes and yes www.adobe.com & find the demo it costs a fortune. you could crack it if you were dishonest and immoral but that would be wrong

they're like that in the southwest edit:: i cant type tonight

like Mark says - buy a bike ticket for a quid . If they wont sell you one then you can't take your bike on the train so you're gonna get kicked off if you do. If you've got one and they kick you off then you've got cause for complaint.

seriously though .. .. please just phone the nick and get em taken away. Im 99% certain it's illegal to have them and they're f**king dangerous.

i did that for quake3 - it was superb. i reckon it got burnt in the grand disk fire of 2001 though mrwhitefield... msn is ill_ness@hotmail.com When we talk about modding an existing game we mean frigging with the code and replacing / adding some new models to make it into a new game. It all kicked off in its modern form with doom - people started hacking open the archive files and replacing textures to make it look different. taking ut2004 as an example. Epic have been kind enough to provide the world (for free) with the source-code to the game logic - so you can change what happens in the game. They dont give you the source code for the rendering engine - cos thats what they make the money off. They also give you the tools for creating levels & models etc. ID(quake) and valve(halflife) do the same but Epic's tools are a lot better integrated and really well documented (comparitively) - plus the code is a lot easier to expand and use. The game logic is written in a java style scripting language - if you've got your head around C/C++ or something to that effect it's not too hard to pick up. anyway - drop me a line, I'm on msn most days during office hours.

Anyone who's had the pointy end of a plastic bmx seat up the wrongun when they failed a no footer will appreciate the lack of seat and low standover height. I can slip pedals and land on my knees and still not crack my gonads on the toptube cos of all this newfangled low long and (in my case) green business. That's not to say there aren't disadvantages to having no seat - seats are handy for getting a bit of extra stability, I didnt realise how much I leant against the one on my old da bomb till I rode without it for a while. Looks? I think stocks look stupid anyway - the wheels are far too big and they have all those silly extra cogs and dangly bits at the back that keep falling off.

pink bike video quality grumpy bugger in post above riding probably would've been better if it was half as long and you were a bit more fascist about what went in. it was a bit samey at times music dunno - it had guitars in so i muted it

Its pretty obvious what goes on inside an ACS when you open it. the Eno is all sealed which is why i got confused when dismantling an ACS do it over an ice cream tub - DO NOT take it apart on the patio ..
-
not unless you're really strong (because its welded shut) its only an ACS, if it stops working just buy another one
-
i'd go up to 25 just for the entertainment value. they're reputed to be a bit snap-happy but for that money, who gives a toss? .looks like it takes a stupid onza headset too

He's says he's using the unity engine - I haven't checked the engine out yet but given that he's written some physics code down in an earlier post I reckon he's got that end of it in hand. As for constructing stuff -thats what he's asking for help on. I kind of agree about the modding rather than writing from scratch thing though - it'll probably look a lot nicer done on an existing game engine. My choice would be ut2004 because the vehicle code in there is very easy to expand - plus theres a fooking bag load of info available on unrealengine coding compared to HL2.
