I've never got in trouble for it around Cambridge but it's a very bike friendly town. Also I think the coppers here realise that the enthusiast (ie. generally fairly skilled) cyclist is a lot less dangerous on the pavement than the middle aged women who belt along at 20mph and think that a bell is a replacement for working brakes.
the leather bikini thing i got her for christmas a year or two back went down well enough .. vouchers seem a little impersonal - I'll buy something ridiculous from the aforementioned links I'm sort of regretting spending £100 on cranks and beer this morning edit: yeah - forgot to say thanks for the links. so, um, thanks for the links chaps
first up. I have absolutely and categorically not forgotten to get the missus something for our 8th anniversary. next. I have no idea where one buys girls clothes and accessories (that means bags and stuff) online without getting your credit card details stolen. any suggestions? she likes the sceney/skatey sort of thing ta very much
it's their own fault for running the cyclist over. also - the same problem applies to pedestrians, people on horses, skateboards, fruit booters, mobility carts and so on.
What that means is that you're an idiot for not wearing a helmet - it has no bearing at all on whether the rest of us should be forced into something that should be a matter of personal choice. You'd be pretty pissed off if there was a law passed saying that you have to wear a helmet when you're walking about outside in case a car mounts the kerb and runs you over or you trip over something - this is the same principle. edit: not picking on you specifically - you were just nearest
I'm with him^^. I don't believe any sort of personal protection should be compulsory (eg. helmets) - things that offer protection for others should be (eg. working brakes on your car). I don't wear a lid while just riding to places cos they're not comfortable and its a fairly low risk situation - I do wear one when I'm doing dangerous stuff because it's a higher risk situation. This is an educated decision based on how competent I am at riding a bike forwards in a straight line on a level surface compared to how competent I am at riding a bike backwards in circles on a wobbly surface.
It could be cos I think mountainbikes are gay but for all round entertainment (30mph with no brakes) + practicality (30mph) + laughing at people who fall off when they try to steal (no brakes, no freewheel) + cheapness (no expensive gears or brakes to pay for) it you need a fixie.
