  1. given the uncertainty inherent in fancy new bits and the limited lifespan on a SSD I'd probably be running several in raid for redundancy purposes. how does the data transfer rate compare to SAS (4 gb/s in certain configs I think) ? I'm still pretty confident that's the way to go for the next few years.
  2. 8800 = antialiasing and full on pixel shader effects at high resolutions due to having the double memory bandwith of the 8600 8600 = less texture thrashing when playing games on account of it having double the memory - but less fancy effects and performance will drop off quite sharply at high resolutions erm i'd probably go for the 8600 if i had a monitor that displayed at 1280x1024 or less purely because it has more memory (256 isn't really enough these days). If i had a shiny new monitor like mine that displays at a much higher resolution I'd buy a 512mb 8800 gt and figure out how to justify the extra outlay later. edit: that's all with gaming in mind - if you're not all that bothered about games get the 8600
  3. If that's the one down from the 4 seasons it's worth having - anything cheaper than that one (350 ish) doesnt have a full cromo frame so it'll kill you and weigh too much under £300 you only have a couple of options - khe triple threat and the 24/7 seem to be the best bikes for that money
  4. somebody cleverer than me said you dont do 4x on a 36 hole rim . it should be 3x
  5. put the sprocket logo on ecstacy tablets and I'll make you a million
  6. do they warn you about the paperwork before you get the job ? will you immediately strike over pay ? well done btw
  7. if it's anything like my orange deal where I get unlimited "orange world" internet you'll get all your 3 based services for nothing and then pay through the bumhole for everything you actually want to use.. thank the lord for Wifi on phones.
  8. I thought the same. I am saddened
  9. hAAHAAAHA!! brilliant. he's still evil - everyone knows helping sick children is just a cover for his plans. edit: replaced multi-syllable word for shorter one that you'll all understand
  10. I read that as "I like shaved girls" . I was about to agree, but after a re-read realised it's just the onset of senile dislexia
  11. shall we all agree to believe that simon took one up the shitter until he tells us something different?
  12. you can safely kill off the max2008raysat thingy, it won't hurt to prevent the service starting automatically either i'd be a bit nervous of that FAT9ICE.EXE or whatever it is cos it's in capital letters otherwise... call that a list of processes? you amateurs don't know the meaning of it-I'm on a 3 year old install of XP and i've never so much as defragged a disk, let alone cleaned it up properly.
  13. they're a rare exception - most of them never meet and those that do either stab each other over imaginary magical swords or manage to eliminate any offspring they may have had by letting them suffocate while they're off working towards earning an imaginary magical sword.
  14. I love this shit - it does the job that evolution did before we invented hospitals.
  15. I'm disgusted at the level of prejudice in this thread. It's not just the younguns who get all smartarsed. I'm an old driver who's only recently passed his test (5 months ago or so) and i was equally guilty of thinking I was clever cos I passed first time. What shocked me into a real sense of my inability to properly control a ton and half of metal at 70mph was nearly clouting the central reservation on a motorway with the missus and the baby in the car. I wasnt driving like a twat at all - I veered right while carefully checking my mirrors to make absolutely sure it was safe to move back into the middle lane after overtaking something. Anyway - my point is that I'm backing up those who've said you're shit till you've been driving a long time. bad luck on the stack - as long you didn't damage anything belonging to somebody else adn there's no evidence you were doing anything naughty you'll be reet.
  16. and here's how everytime you start to think about her ... go to the kitchen, open the fridge door, pull the old chap out, place him gently in the opening slam the door - hard. repeat until you stop having the thoughts it works on dogs
  17. did you actually read it or just stop at the first picture?
  18. that's pretty fecking rough - even for haiti the sick thing is that if they could get some funding they could probably flog the dirt cookies to dieting western women for 2 quid a pop
  19. That would be the night Teddy came out of his mummy's frontbum and shouted at us.
  20. running ubuntu on a desktop where you know exactly which cards/devices etc you have plugged in should be relatively easy to sort out, the OS update stuff is nice ne easy and they do a fine job of pretending you're not on linux(ie by making the updates easy).# However, as you discovered - running it on a laptop where you have no hope at all of finding out anything about the various components is a very differnet kettle of fishies. I got hacked off with it last time i made the effort as I was having to rebuild the kernel every time i plugged something in and even then my wacom and four out of four wireless adaptors never actually worked properly
  21. i hope he goes to heaven. he deserves it for the flying saucer prank.
