  1. Dave, glad to see you're finally getting a bike sorted, 24? Over the last 6 months i've tried Koxx browns, Coustsinks and Heatsink yellows. The Koxx pads were awesome on a decent grind in most conditions with awesome wear rate, the coustsinks were ok, but in my opinion not any better than the browns. I've had a set of heatsink yellows on for a week now and i've been really impressed with them, great bike and good hold, not tried them in the wet yet though; they do seem to be a fair bit softer than the Koxx Browns and i think thats the only issue i have with them. All of mine have been in CNC backings so can't help you otherwise, but i'm sure they'd be fine in powerpad backings as used by Steve.
  2. Shut up! Load of tosh. Get on lads, nice to see some bikes with seats
  3. The ask is in the Jet Stream above Europe, strangely where the planes fly. The RAF Chief tech who sits next to me was explaining in lamens terms how the ash superheated by the jet engines forms into glass and solidifies, this stalls the engines and bad things happen, previously plane ahve got out of it by trying to restart there engines whilst descending pretty damn quick due to the lack of propulsion, the glass breaks and the engines can restart. So yeah its a good idea to stop flights, can't really be having big planes diving out of their intended flight paths to avoid a huge cloud of ash they can only track by radar and isn't exactly predictable. Nothing will happen to us though, things will be fine in a day or so once the ash has stopped erupting out of the volcanoe and the cloud has broken up. I for one am not retreating to my nuclear bunker quite yet.
  4. Something to hold the material... not your hands. Sharp knife, fresh stanley or a craft scalpel and a steel rule. make sure the blade is wet and you should be ok.
  5. Shouldn't really be an issue, check all the bearings are tight and smooth. The Kool chains usually come with a quick link of sorts in the box.... Although Trialtech may choose not to include them in the box as they are weaker than a properly joined chain.
  6. What set up do you run then? Because with a fresh very sharp grind and heatsink yellow pads mines working really well, its just a question of how long it will stay working.
  7. That was awesome, really enjoyed that. Sweet riding. Good edit. Nice tune. Top job
  8. Find my Kenda folding 2.5 nevegal DTC better than the Conti Rubber Queen, more pinch prone that a dual ply maxxis, better than a Conti, much more bounce than a dual ply Maxxis and lighter too. Seems to wear really well too.
  9. Folding 2.5" Kenda Nevegal DTC, really like mine Grippy, slightly thicker sidewalls compared to a conti rubber queen, although maybe a little heavier..
  10. You can but it would be classed as selling in NMC, so i wouldn't say it at all.
  11. You should be fine on a stock, it may be a little big, but then you're 14 and you could grow a lot in the next 6 months to a year. The phase should serve you fine, but as has been said, get a decent rear tyre, an Avid SD7 vee set up and some decent pads and switch it to single speed and you'll be sorted at a alter point you may want to change the rear hub/wheel. But first i'd get the brakes sorted and then go from there.
  12. Nope thats fair enough, if you were just doing trials then i'd stick a skinnier tyre on the front, would ahve thought a 2.35 maxxis high roller would be more than sufficient though Hope the sleeve holds out, replace them asap!
  13. Did that all really happen after a drop gap, looks like its been attacked with a pick axe and an angle grinder.... that and it being old!
  14. It is coming to that time in the year where the new ranges are coming out.....
  15. Trialtech or Echo Urbans, i run Urbans on both my 24" and stock, just find them a little flexier than what i've use before. Can i ask why you're running a 2.4"+ tyre on the front?! On the rear yes, but surely on the front its unneeded dead weight, you don't need the larger volume to absorb impacts etc. Just seems excessive.
  16. Glad i'm not the only one thats struggling to find a decent set up with this rim. The brake feels solid (Limey 3 frame, magura slaves, 04 magura lever and fresh products blade) set up properly and have tried it with Koxx browns, coustinks and now heatsink yellows. Only seem to be able to get a decent grind on the rim by using a brand new disc with a very sharp edge, had Joe Seddon try to sort it out at the weekend and he was having the same issues. Using a brand new disk worked to some extent, the grind was fine, with the yellow heatsink pads the brake worked really well.... for half a day; and then the grind wore nearly smooth, still making noise but rolling though. The pads themselves had turned silver/black with aluminium dust from the rim. I'm just going to run the rim, having to grind it after every ride to get it to work, until it dies and then try and fine something else. Its a real shame because the rim itself seems plenty strong enough and its really light. How exactly are you struggling to get yours to work? My issue is literally with getting a decent grind or more the ability of the rim to hold it.
  17. I use one on my 24" at the moment and managed to snap one after about 5 months on my 26", but thats more my fault as i tend to replace any chain after 3-4 months on the 26". Got nothing bad to say against them, cheap, cheerful and seem plenty strong enough
  18. But you'd never get a Reynolds tube set for 250 quid.... Hence the price of Pashley frames and other mtb hardtails that use Reynolds tubing. To get a custom from made out of decent steel your best bet is Curtis, £549 for a standard T45 steel frame, 2.38 kilos. The last few Marinos I've seen have certainly improved in build quality adn alignment, wouldn't rule one out as an option.
  19. Spray lacquer works a treat, spray it on, leave it overnight to dry properly and sorted.
