I'd say both. If you have a clutch mech with a normal chainring then it won't stay on, similarly if you have a narrow wide with non-clutch then you'd be pushing your luck. I run that setup and it's been faultless. My friend was riding some enduro trails at Innerleithen last weekend and even wiping out on a rock and smashing his mech and hanger off, the chain was still on his chainring….can't go wrong with a narrow-wide.

Strange not to see him on SRAM and Hope after so long, but as has been said this didn't overly excite me but on a technical level I can appreciate how difficult some of the stuff he is doing. He can certainly shred.

I can't read anything on that photo but on further research it seems they do! Used to start on SLX and they don't advertise so much on the Deore model. All I know is on my commuter which has the newest Deore's it's not doing it's job like my XTR's.

The Deore (as previously stated) doesn't feature Servo Wave. It's starts on the SLX brake. Good choice.
