  1. But why, frame geometry aside, do 24" wheels make a bike more streety? Mods should therefore feel extremely streety but they don't really, unless you have a stem with bags of rise. My frame has +45mm bb, so it's going to be pretty similar to a 24" frame in that aspect.
  2. Right, understood from that description that K-Alone is just stiffer, not stronger in general. I'm not sure it's as simple as that, some alloys have better welding properties etc. It'd be interesting to see how long the new Echo frame lasts since both that and the XTP weigh around the same while they're made of different alloys.
  3. Just watched the whole thing, great show. Yet again another proper episode without fooling around. Anyway, just wondering how they managed to do such good mileage on a tank. Especially Clarkson, he thought he'd run out near London yet reached Blackpool and still had 120 miles to go? Surely that's not possible. I presume diesels must have a big reserve due to what happens when the fuel runs out but 2 gallons seems a bit much anyway. Somehow I fail to believe that race really looked like they said it did (the two driving economically and Clarkson driving normally). If JC was so quick, how come did Hammond catch up with him despite taking a later train and supposedly driving very slowly? Must say that Jag is superb though.
  4. Shouldn't really be doing this but I couldn't resist mocking Koxx just a bit... If that's an XTP then read on. Obviously that's just a fancy way of saying it's weak. Good luck with getting a warranty replacement. Remember - if anybody asks you, you're an Elite rider with incredibly good timing.
  5. I think what he's saying is that smaller wheels just make the bike stand lower but the body position is exactly the same. The reason for which rise varies depending on wheel size is an interesting one. It could be that the 90-100cm bar height is considered to give a good 'riding height' and therefore to retain the same position the average bb rise measured from the ground needs to be fairly similar on all frames. It'd be really odd if mods had 10mm rise and handlebars just above your knees. Anyhow, going double disk soon, if a rear 8" Hope doesn't deliver enough braking power or the wheel is too flexy, I'll be switching to 24".
  6. Yeah, they're much bigger. But from my experience, both those brakes have very similar performance, I actually found the BB5 to have much more bite.
  7. I'd recommend a BB5, coupled with an SD7 lever it's really one of the best front brakes around. I've had both the 5 and 7 and really don't understand why one would want to pay double for an extra adjuster knob which is fairly useless (unless you're a lazy sod). Neither of these brakes offer as much modulation as a Hope and are very aggressive, but you can easily adjust to that. Anyway, money no object I'd still have a BB over a Hope as a front brake.
  8. 1:18.3 for the Veyron That's an astonishing time for such a heavy and loaded car.
  9. Probably worth watching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7zb8YXrmIAinstructional video.
  10. I want to go home now Anyone still up?
  11. Laws would be very difficult to formulate if they were to apply to every possible condition. Therefore it's up to whoever is enforcing these rules to use some common sense and, for instance, realise that when stationary, having a sip of coke won't create a hazard on the road. Whoever gave him a fine wasn't sensible, end of.
  12. Well, there's a difference between holding something in your hand and just resting the hand on your lap/gear knob. Slightly related, there was a study condutced in Switzerland or Sweden which proved that drivers who were talking over the phone (driving one handed) were much more careful and drove more safely than those who weren't making a call. Not that I think this should be made legal, just found it interesting.
  13. Doesn't your camera have a 120fps setting?
  14. I second that, it's rubbish but you'll love it after you get to know it.
  15. Exactly my thoughts. Your IP can be changed by a proxy, but the original one will always come from a range of addresses assigned to your ISP and subsequently your region. So unless there's a really clever way of doing this, a proxy is the only way.
  16. Use proxy servers for the sites you can't access.
  17. Apps like CAD require a lot of memory from graphics cards to work efficiently. 128mb is enough, though anything over should boost performance even further. Another thing is the ram itself, you want as much of that as possible. Since it's not that expensive any more, 4gb would be a good idea. It'll help to work on big projects more efficiently. Finally, don't go for an integrated graphics controller since those don't always have dedicated memory. The only benefit of having an integrated card is power efficiency, they use significantly less energy comparing to a dedicated card even when idle. I really can't advise on what card to go for but there's a wide choice so you shouldn't have a problem finding the right one. If Nvidia makes Quadro cards for laptops, you could look at those. They are specially designed for 3d applications and modelling in general.
  18. Somebody else can do the wheels if that colour is ok. Not too good with round shapes. edit: too bright. Might be my monitor, but the colour you're after doesn't look at all blue to me. More like brown.
  19. S/RS Audi? Going to go with S4?
  20. Most people will say yes, since there is a chance you'll earn a lot of money. But I don't think they'd be so positive if they were to invest their own money To put it simple: reactions could be spontaneous and irrational in view of the recent problems, also banks are a dodgy thing to invest in now. You've probably done a lot of research yourself, so go with whatever you think is the right thing to do.
  21. The brakes were a silly idea, you don't need them if you're going to do one lap and then return to tweaking the car. Anyway, 7 seconds is still quite a lot, especially considering as it was a kind of people carrier. That's roughly the % difference between an Evo 400 and a GT-R. But yeah, they could have made it much faster, 1:33 easily. I'm really glad TG is starting to do "proper" shows again. The last 2 shows were absolutely epic. The Veritas was supposed to be in this episode, shame they didn't have time to test it. Would be really interesting to see how fast it went around the track. Looks like it could be a killer.
  22. Well yes, if you have a drink and want to get into the car straight away, then there's no point. But nobody goes to clubs/parties for 5 minutes, more like a few hours. So if you want to get pissed, and in my case not wait till 5am for a bus home, you will want to find out when you can legally and safely get back home even if it means sitting in a car or having a nap while not freezing to death outside. And since the difference between being able to drive legally and being sober is about 15 minutes, there's really no reason not to wait just to be on the safe side.
  23. Yes, that too. But do you know what the legal limits are over here? No! So stop making judgements. FYI they're 4x lower than in the UK. People have been prosecuted for eating a chocolate filled with alcohol because that made them go over the limit. I see no point in discussing this, fed up with people talking about something they have no idea about.
  24. Reminds me slightly of a night in Prague. Very good effort, usually broadcasters make a complete hash of extreme sports videos but this one was well made. Only disliked the strange sound effect they used with transitions.
