  2. If you were out there I think you'd leave the bike at home and go to the beach. Or just swear a lot about how hot it is and the b*****d flies . I'm speaking from experience. Nice pictures by the way.
  3. Is that chart assuming the material for the bolt and what you're screwing into are the same. Doesn't make a lot of sense unless i'm missing something. No offense to Endo but I think the majority of people are screwing a steel bolt into an aluminium frame which doesnt seem to be mentioned. I agree with dave85. If you're worried about it stripping dont do it up as much. If you're worried about it coming undone check it regularly and do it up a bit tighter next time. It also helps if you do each side of the clamp up evenly, not one side fully and then the other. If you're running a booster with spacers then you will have no problem with it coming loose with lowish torque. A bolt works by stretching so the longer the better and the harder it is to come loose by itself.

  5. Its good to see an article like that. We are asked to move on from some places (usually private property) but not very often and theres a good variety of spots so we just go to one of them. Generally people stop and have a look, maybe ask a couple of questions etc. We've run into a few people not happy about what we are doing and threatened to call the police etc. Sometimes they turn up and say dont ride into anyone and watch out for needles in the leaf litter etc. I dont understand why the small minority of the public have issues with people enjoying themselves.
  6. Ive separted them to use the backing not the pad - I dont know of any cases where it has a detrimental effect on the pad material. Boiling works, so does putting them in the oven for a little while (just dont forget about them). Another way that has woorked is gently crushing them in a vice which will break the glue bond as its generally quite brittle. If you dont need the backing the vice might be a good option as you can be a bit more heavy handed with it.
  7. Im guessing in that case the 'spokes' of the rotor were flexing over towards the static pad each time. The spokes would bend much more easily than the braking surface. The spokes are then bent but spring back over to the active pad side as the base of the spoke will bend near the centre of the rotor not the braking surface. Kinda difficult to explain.
  8. Ive seen this happen before - not quite a bowl shape though. Can be bent back no problem. It sounds like your adjustment was a bit out so was pushing too far over one way. Ideally it should be set up to slightly drag or just off. It doesnt have far to flex then when the other side comes on. I wouldnt recommend flipping it over - they're designed to rotate that way for a reason.
  9. I have an '06 Control with built in booster. I dont run another booster but just a booster shaped plate to protect the HS33 crossover.

  14. Drilling the crack might save the crack from propagating for a little while but you will have more problems with those dents. The edges of the dents are now acting as stress raisers and new cracks will form. Frame makers sometimes have tools which can work dings out but that frame looks about ready for the bin.
  15. Sorry for late reply, am currently down under lapping up the sunshine... The hole in the arm is big enough to rotate freely around the end of the hub right next to the cassette lockring. It doesnt get pinched at all. The spring does all the tensioning.

  17. No, ive touched nothing below 70a so far. Would be fun to try but don't think they'd last too long. There is now a 45a stuck to my mirror

  20. I'm open to suggestions. The way I see it the spring is necessary unless I go back back to the B-tension type arrangement.
  21. My latest version has been on a serious diet. Rotates around the hub and tensions by the spring attached to the seat tube. Been running for over a month with no problems. The arm is spring steel so if it bends you can just bend it back. It has a small amount of side float too so it follows the chain line if it shifts.
