A Durban University of Technology teacher and his students have found the first radio signal from outside our solar system. Using their radio telescope named Indlebe. A transit instrument operating on Hydrogen Line Frequency of 1420 MHZ.

Woo, might be interesting... or might be nothing.

Would it be good to meet other aliens or not?

It may well be what they last thought was aliens - a pulsar.

Lol if it is aliens.

Humans are bad enough as it is, fighting each other because they've got different coloured skin. Even if they are aliens, and they do come to earth, we'll never get anything from them except for their dead bodies.

That is so true.

If it actually was any life form it would be interesting to know how similar or different we are. Imagine if it was just really advanced humans.

It makes you think for a bit.

Everything in the universe is ever changing so there is a high possiblity that life/advance life has come and gone thousands of times. Even if the signals did come from aliens they are probably long gone as sound travels so slowly across the universe.

Sound doesn't travel in vacuum :)

I actually wonder how the discovery and contact with alien lifeforms would affect the world. Maybe we'd realize that there's no need to fight over such trivial things and all these stupid wars would come to an end. We are going to make contact sooner or later, given the advancement in technology say in 1000 years?

In that case, surely they should have known better? They go to all that funding and time to build a massive radio telescope and point it at something thats suspected of being a high cause of electromagnetic activity then report to a paper that they were suprised they found a signal

It's possible that it is though. Maybe not bounced off something alien, but something we've sent out. It could how ever be something bounced off one of the many Satellites the MOD graveyard every year.

Space; the final frontier.

I'm going to put money on it it's noise.

Or a certain frequency not found in the same frequecy, with a side of noise.
