Who Runs Gears?

Hey

I tend to run a road rear mech when I do, a sora or 105 (short cage rear mech) the short cage tend to be nicer - out of the way from knocks etc.

Ive run a hacksawed gripshift in the past, or a thumb shifter out the way was quite popular...

Hope this helps

They really HAVE moved on. The people replying represent <0.5% of the populace.

Not saying don't do it - just pointing out bikes are pretty different now from the old school.

Stocks are running mod stems for God's sake! :P

you're soo not oldschool :D

seriously, gears were so cool

so much pain in the ass to make it work

was breaking so easaly

actually spend more time fixing my bike than riding it

those were the golden years

Started running single speed on my trials bike in the late nineties and I was the only person I knew who didn't have gears on a 26". Now I've just put a new bike together single speed and I don't know how I put up with trying to get anywhere in a trials gear. Think I'm gonna put together a 3 speed cassette now. Prob 12, 14, 16 I reckon.

I used to run a modified SRAM gripshift after i got fed up of twatting my thigh on my 1994 XT rapidfire shifter. I guess that problem wouldn't arise these days now bikes arn't so short. Either way it worked fine hooked up to a shitty Sora mech and modified 6 sp close ratio cassette.

sstien I am pretty sure with a slightly harder gear I would have made that gap to the black block.......

I do remeber gears being a pain however I have a lot more patience now I am a little older. I may still twat my leg I ride a 609 so not that long low......
