Ali Courtney Posted January 12, 2006 Report Share Posted January 12, 2006 HiIm thinking of getting either a 203mm bb7 or juicy 7 up front on my stock but cant decide on whether to go hydro or not? Ive rode Siders Juicy and his 160mm disc was truly immense yet on the other hand ive read many positive reviews on the avid mechanical Does a well set up bb7 truly have the power of a hydro? That is an absolutely awesome deal, and if you have a decent front brake lever lying about, that makes them about a third of the price of a Juicy . You really can't go wrong at that price. They are just stupidly powerful and a doddle to set up. Downsides: Easy to break the caliper arm and lose the red bits if you hit it on a rock. I think they are pretty heavy, too.Money no object: Juicy 7I just bought one and it's basically a hydro BB7 (in case you hadn't guessed). The power is there but you also get modulation too and all the feel of a hydro brake. And the lever is really nice too. Downsides: A lot more difficult to set up than the BB7 as you don't have any pad adjustment at the caliper. Also the hose enters the caliper on the side so it could potentially get hit by a rock. But these are just small, irrelevant, things when you realise just how awesome the brake is. I'm very happy with mineTake your pick really, both are really good deals, you can't go wrong. The BB7 is the second best brake available for trials (that I have tried, anyway) and it's dirt cheap. Locks when I need it to, but there's still enough modulation for virtually everything. I say "virtually everything" simply 'cos I haven't found anything it hasn't been good at doing, but no doubt someone will...Oh, and mine isn't good at keeping the left side plastic adjuster cap on.
