  1. Well as the thread is about performance enhancing drugs, I thought that the fact they test for them in the top level comps might be worth consideration. Seems obvious really. It's quite a controversial thing in road cycling at the moment with some people saying "doping is cheating" and other people saying that "all top riders dope but few get caught".
  2. I'd imagine they have doping tests for top level comps? It's interesting to hear folk's opinions that Redbull etc. is quite unhealthy as that's what I think. It's kind of worrying how much money comes from it, like the best way for a rider to actually earn a living from riding is to be sponsored by them, but in the process they are encouraging more consumption of these unhealthy drinks. They must be selling huge quantities of these drinks too in order to have the kind of money they do.
  3. I really liked my V3 Cannibal (very similar geo to the new one). But then I'm not a fan of modern geo.
  4. Bit off topic but I wonder why the Inspired bikes don't have horizontal dropouts? I wish mine did. My only guess is so you could run gears but no one ever does (and it is possible to have horizontal dropouts with a mech hanger). I'd be tempted to try the filing modification on my Forplay if it meant I could loose the tensioner.
  5. I love my MT2s ) I really wish my Inspired had a rear disc mount so could run a pair on there too (currently run dual MT2s on my 1049 mod). "How does MT2 work for the front of a pure trials bike?" On my Koxx 1049 mod the MT2s work great front and rear. I don't seem to be able to modulate the front as well as I could with a shimano SLX on stock (the stopping power seems better though) however the different wheel/rotor sizes make that comparison a poor one. On the Mod the MT2s seem quite good for on/off braking and hold very well. I'd say they're really good trials brakes. Levers feel comfy too. edit: dunno why my smiley comes out like that )
  6. It's odd. I like running 2 chainrings upfront on my freeride/AM bike so I can quickly change a big ratio (ie drop from 34 to 22 up front) for when I hit a climb or a downhill rather than have to step through several gears on the rear. Funny going from a trials bike to a bike with two or more cahinrings is it's hard to get used to the chain flapping around so much (doesn't fall off just flaps), seems like a more elegent solution would be possible. That dual pressure tire switch idea looks interesting although too clumbersome to really be of practical use. I've often wondered if it would be possible to get the best characteristics of soft and hard tires (without having to adjust anything).
  7. I'd like to see a trials bike with 22" or maybe 23" wheels. Tire/rim choice could be a problem though.
  8. If the condition & size are ok then that looks like a bargain.
  9. Well that's gonna encourage them. IMO that's exactly the sort of thing that will put ladies off, might just be banter for you but for others it might be intimidating.
  10. The article is pretty bad IMO. Trials has less females than possibly any other mtb discipline. I don't think it has much to do with the perceived danger or risk of injury, freediving and climbing have loads of women, they are still male dominated sports but there are significant numbers of women doing these sports. Maybe street trials doesn't always have the best image (I've seen quite a few riders drop litter etc) that might not attract women to the sport, perhaps the comp scene is more appealing. Also the less women who do a sport, the less are inspired to take it up (less role models, less riders to push each other on etc).
  11. Nice vid but poking crabs with a stick is really uncool
  12. Sorry to hear of your troubles. Personally I'd go to a doctor or hospital, not a chiropractor. Hopefully they can refer you to a sports physiotherapist. AFAIK chiropractors arn't really regulated, I'm a bit skeptical of them.
  13. I believe a frenchie is done without the use of the front brake. I could be wrong though, can't do them either.
  14. Nice, I've got one very similar but I've not really added anything much so still has the Totem forks. I'd like some DH forks ideally though.
  15. Me and Chris are planning to head up
  16. I ride there sometimes. I love it, only short but I think they've made great use of the space. The Mega trail is awesome too!
  17. Africa is a huge continent. How can the whole place be summed up as 'inhospitable'? That doesn't make much sense to me.
  18. Hi I was hoping to enter this but it kind of slipped my mind. Have I left it too late or can I still enter (I'm not a club member yet either)? Cheers John.
  19. I beleive it's also the same grading for DH however DH will usually be harder in terms of skill required for example a DH black run will probably have much bigger jumps n drops than an XC black run. I think with XC also the length of the route might affect the difficulty rating even if there is no particular section that is actually harder.
  20. I'm probably gonna be riding I've PM'd you my number.
  21. Looks very nice. How's it ride with the new stem/bar set up compared to before? I've just got a fourplay myself, and I'm currently running a 120 x 35 stem with 10mm (I think). It still feels short when doing trialsy stuff but I seem to be getting used to it.
  22. Get some goggles that don't leak. It's worth trying a few different ones. IMO it's a shame most pools won't let you use a freediving mask, I find my vision blurred with goggles (think it's to do with the lenses not being parralell) but it's way better than nothing.

I should be along but maybe not till a bit later as I've got some bike work to do first.
  24. Buying a fixed hub n freewheel is probably cheaper than buying a (decent) freehub and will give you more engagement points (depends on freewheel and freehub though). Do you already have the rim? I'm new to wheel building but have had good luck with it (built about 3 wheels) just go steady and it helps if you have a wheel to 'copy', there's some good online guides too (& be careful to get the right no. of holes in rim/hub and also with spoke length).
