Leicester ride Sunday 8th feb
Rebelistic replied to Herbertlemon102's topic in Member Organised Rides
Was a good ride, nice to meet more local(ish) riders. I think Leicester has some good spots but they tend to be small and quite spaced out. -
Neat. I'm gonna give this a try as the pad rocking on my saints does my head in.

I got a pair for my 24 last weekend. Very pleased so far. I have only ridden street so far but even in the wet the grip is impressive. I have a had one pinch flat when I ran a low pressure and landed a gap to a sharp brick very harshly but no probs since then & I usually get a pinch flat every ride on my hollyrollers.

Awesome stuff, nice style of riding!

I do think lack of versatilty on a bike would put people off buying one, at least initially. My first proper trials bike was an old skool T-Rex (the old blue one, very short, zero bb rise) and even then I was put off for quite a while as I didn't like the idea of a bike being so limited. I did trials on a jump bike for a year or so before committing to the T-Rex because I liked the idea that I could still do some general mtbing on it, ride the odd jump etc. A personal thing i don't like about trials bikes is that they don't really help you get from A to B and don't help you get over obsticles either (easier to climb over without a bike). Bikes from any other disipline do seem to help, even a downhill bike can be ridden along the road without too much trouble. I find a streety bike adresses this to an extent as you can ride along a bit better and they generally seem more versatile.

^ Thanks, yeah that would be a solution, I could run a 20 or 22t freewheel up front and keep the 12t sprocket on the rear. Could work pretty well.

Hi, I've been thinking my mod would be much better for street if I had a higher gear ratio but I'm not sure how to go about it. I think I'm currently running an 18t freewheel up front with a 12t rear sprocket (both screw on). Problem: I can't find any screw on sprockets smaller than 12t and standard freewheels seem to be 18t. This gives me a pretty low ratio when taking the wheel size into account 1.5. Does anyone know how I could get a higher ratio? Thanks, John )

Hiya, I'm local, don't ride as much as I'd like these days but always good to meet new riders in the area ) Give me a shout when you're riding 07411784139

Yeah, been too long. Trying to get back on it now!

After a short break from riding, I'm trying to get back on it ) I don't normally post vids on here as the're not that amazing but I quite like this one. I didn't have many clips of Chris so have put them as a separate section.

I've found a converter that makes the files into AVI files, then editor seems to handle these better. I don't know if they are interlaced or progressive? I couldn't get my editor (ulead video studio) to be set for 50 fps files, I can see an option in the preferences but when I select it it doesn't have any other options only 25 fps. I should probably get a better editor but this has always been ok with 25 fps files.

Can anyone help me with a video file problem? I have some files off my camcorder (.MTS file extension). They were recorded at 50 fps. If I play them in windows media player they play ok. The problem is if I put them in my video editor (ulead video studio) when I export them they play at half speed (I assume because there are too many frames ie. playing a 50fps file at 25fps). Does anyone know of a way I could convert them to 25fps files or any possible solution to my problem? Thanks )

I had a lucid dream the other night. A dream where you realise you are dreaming and are then able to control the dream. A common test to tell if you are dreaming is to take a second look at something. In reality it would look the same but often in a dream it will be different. I thought the words "this is a lucid dream" and decided to test it by seeing if I could run down the street, take off and fly. It worked for a while until my thoughts wandered and I woke up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucid_dream

Cheers for the comments, I've been away for a week so only just got back n seen them. It's 21:15, there's plenty of clearance for the tire. Possibly with a different gear ratio I could get the back end shorter.

My new 24" street bike from Jaf Bikes. Rides really nicely, feels light and responsive. I still need to neaten up the brake hoses. Geo: wb 995, bb+20,ha 73, cs 365.

Cheers for the replies. I think the Dunce would ride well but after consideration I'm more feeling to go with a custom frame. Probably won't cost too much more and should be exactly as I'd like (I could also avoid the green). I think I'd choose a custom frame over a Fourplay as then I can have shorter chainstays and horizontal dropouts (and maybe tweak the other geo a little to suit me).

Hi all, sorry for a lengthy post. (that was supposed to be a smile smiley but wasn't and I can't delete it, odd) I currently have a MK1 fourplay that I quite like for street duties. Only thing is I’d love a rear disc, I can’t get on with a magura rim brake these days (never been able to set one up well). I’m pretty happy to carry on with the fourplay as I have only had it 9 months or so and it hasn’t been ridden as much as it deserves. I noticed this thread comparing the Dunce to the Fourplay: http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/topic/170459-ozonys-king-of-dunce-v2-or-fourplay-2011/?hl= king vs inspired It doesn’t really talk much about the geo though more about build quality etc. My fourplay geo is 1035, 385, +35 I think…not too sure of HA The Dunce geo is 1010, 365, +25, 73.5HA The Dunce is also slightly lighter. I’m not overly concerned with strength as I’ve never* really broken a frame but I’d be interested in how it would ride with the geo being slightly shorter (very short chainstays could be good?). I’ve not seen a picture of a Dunce built up as I would have it (most seem to have long stems and tiny front chainrings) and I’ve never met anyone with one. Basically on paper I think the geo sounds nice and it has a rear disc mount and it isn’t too expensive. I’m not a massive fan of the green but it doesn’t look too bad either. Oooh also it has a horizontal dropout so I could loose the tensioner. My other option would be to stick with my current fourplay for a while and then maybe get a custom made frame at some point although I wouldn’t really know what geo to go for. With the Tarty sale on tomorrow it could be a good time to treat myself. Basically I'm just wondering if anyone has ridden one? Is there anything particularly good or bad about them? * well one once but I think that may have been a defect as it hardly got any use before cracking.

I cut my inspired forks down a bit with no problems. Just give the threads a clean after cutting.

That sounds like your saying caffeine isn't addictive? -
I like how a mod can feel roomy enough for static moves but can also be short enough to make bunny hops pretty easy. I find with a stock the only one I could bunny hop was mine, every other stock I've tried feels way too long to me. I don't think I have the perfect bike yet but I do prefer my mod over stock so far.

I think it would be nice if you could get maybe the top 10 vids in HD and put them on a bluray or DVD for sale with profits going to a charity (maybe one that promotes cycling in some way). I have no idea if folks would actually buy it though. Some (most?) of the entries are some of the best vids I've seen. I have no interest in who won or lost but it's great to see all these amazing films.
-
I think that would be less streety, more TGS/pure trialsy. Have you tried rolling your bars back more, I was surprised what a bit difference it made.

I've heard that all top road riders dope but do it very cleverly so as not to get caught and that the governing body sometimes have it in for a rider so will test them extra well while kind of turning a blind eye (not testing them so thoroughly) to others that they like. I don't know if that's true but I've heard several people say you can't ride at that level without doping.
