I was going to boast about currently working on one but actually it's just a shell right now so there's absolutely nothing to boast about Hopefully have it finished by end of July, ready for a nurburgring trip. Probably won't happen. A middle-aged/slightly old woman complimented my Volvo today. YES! Still trying to stop it using more oil than fuel though.

You'll be like this: Except with a much nicer car than that! I have a feeling the same will happen to me if I get that Alfa I was looking at.

I like to make life difficult.

Anything to consider when looking at a car with a fiat diesel jtd engine? Worked on those Mr Kidney? Thinking about getting an Alfa 156 diesel as a daily in the future.

Nice one Andrew. You can be the Scottish representative at the next TF track day.

Voted lib dems...that went well. On the subject of the benefits system, the conservatives aren't fixing it, they're sort of bandaging it in the wrong way. Plenty of people like my mum should be getting benefits (she's got chronic fatigue), but instead she has to work and push herself to the limit every day. Not cool.

Looks like my turbo with brand new internals is spewing oil into the exhaust, lots of it. Yay. Should'vegoneNA

I often have a dilemma with their 9 or 10 minute long song Freebird. If I'm driving and I get to the end of a journey with half the song still left to play, I have to sit in the car and wait it out. One does not simply stop Freebird.

I very much like the idea of making mincemeat of more expensive cars, or having a "sleeper". A lot of people just like tinkering, and then they get attached to the car so they just keep on tinkering with it... My next project will cost me a lot in modifications and might not be particularly fast afterwards, but it will thoroughly amuse me. That's the main thing.

I agree with having that sort of name. It would be easy to make a logo/brand image for that name, but with it not being a very descriptive name you might want to frequently share a "pic of the day" type thing to help with promotion.

Just don't buy the cheapest drill bits. Good ones will save you a lot of pain!

As far as I know both parts have a matching taper, but I'll try and measure the hole out of interest.
-
Flip the rod ends? There's a taper on the ball joint stud though.
-
Yeah I'll be taking a bit off them. You have a point though, why didn't I realise I could do that without breaking off the outer tie rod ball joint, doh!! Feel very silly now.

Fitted the "quick steer roll correctors" Ended up with mega toe out (steering wheel was straight) This became a big problem, because I couldn't remove the toe out, or at least not to the extent required. Basically the inner tie rods are too long, and I couldn't fix it today because I couldn't get the outer tie rods to separate from the new roll corrector units! I'll need to buy new tie rod ends and sabotage the old ones to get them off, and shorten the inner tie rods. Luckily I had picked up some wheels with old tyres recently, so I'm using them to avoid wearing the good ones. It actually drives ok with the excessive toe out, more stable than I expected. Despite the toe out I can tell that the roll correctors have made a big improvement, and the quicker steering is awesome. I think I may have fixed the oil leak too. A seal had broken, which must've happened upon installation. Dann27070707070, the injectors you cleaned for me seem to be working very well! Engine seems happy but I need to get the boost control sorted out.

This is somehow better on 144p, gives it an old school vibe.
-
It's his baby, I don't think he'll like hearing that I think I've tracked my oil leak. But having a boost problem again due to mbc, I seem to have infinite boost again which is funny until something breaks.

Half way along that manual on the high wall I thought "no, there's no way he's going to continue that manual off the end". Madness.

Losing loads of oil. There's a nice light covering of oil on the back of the car. I put 2 and 2 together and thought a piston ring on the new engine was most likely dead. I was so gutted that I started looking at new cars. However, just checked compression and all is well. Whilst doing so I found oil on the downpipe and oil under the filter, so I think it's just an external leak after all. The air flow must be picking up oil from the downpipe area hence the oil on the back of the car. Phew, panic over.

Yeah you can still get the AA to rescue you if you're not already a member. I think they get most of their member's that way! So the old engine was probably due a clean...it's red underneath, honestly. I may have also spent many moneys on a suspension/steering modification, because I love polishing turds. Also picked up a spare set of wheels so I can go drifting at some point.

Sounds like exhaust but near engine end, maybe manifold. Stick your hand in around the manifold area when starting cold and see if you feel anything. Just checked valve clearances. Two are slightly out of spec. No idea why I didn't check that before! Not too worried about it though. If the new cam shows up any time soon I'll get the clearances sorted. (If the rest of the engine keeps working!)

Greg1040 was offering custom CNC parts recently in the car thread, if I'm not mistaken.

Lol at Dan's dream. Spent 3 days installing this engine. It shouldn't take that long! It's just the same as before but younger and with a bigger turbo. Why did I paint the block, you can only see a little bit of it. I don't feel as though I'm in the clear yet though. I'm worried that it's burning oil but can't yet confirm as I only got it running last night. It's also quite noisy and tappety. REALLY hope it's not burning oil. That would basically be three days wasted by putting a worse engine in...
