You could get something like this: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/136250 . You would take your old hard drive out of the computer and then plug it into the new computer one via USB. It's £15, but you could use it again as a bigger external hard drive if you bought another drive to go in it. Alternatively you could buy the ide-usb cable which would essentially do the same thing but without the case. Unfortunately they're not a lot cheaper than the enclosures. You might be able to get a cheaper one from eBay I suppose. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/143274 Having said all that, if your computer just died suddenly, there's a pretty good chance it was the hard drive that stopped working. So it would be unlikely to work in the new computer with these adaptors. When you try and turn the old computer on, what happens? Any whirring, beeps, anything on the screen etc?

If you restart whilst holding down the (left) mouse button it might eject it. That's the shortcut for my Powerbook, your iMac might be different but I'm not going to google it for you

Yeah you're right about that, I'm sure. But even with external bearings, Hollowtech BBs are still rubbish. I was comparing external BBs to square taper. Not sure which one has the bigger bearings (and it's a pretty useless comparison on my part since barely anyone even uses square taper any more), but the bearings in square taper BBs are definitely a lot better. Even ISIS is better than Shimano Hollowtech, and they have smaller bearings.

I initially thought that I can't really warn you, it wouldn't be fair. But then I thought about it and realised I'd warn you for using that language anyway, whoever it was directed at. So, on behalf of all the seniors/mods/wankers: (and a 48 hour suspension)

Really? You seem to be suggesting that everyone is 'hard-wired' to get violent when drunk. I don't think that's the case with me, personally I can't say I've ever felt the need to hit anyone while drunk. I totally accept that my thought patterns and reasoning change, I do stupid and occasionally bad things when I'm drunk but violence never comes into it. I find it hard to believe that you go out, drink and fight, too. Maybe I'm wrong about you. Yes.

It might do. Or try adjusting your position on the bike a bit when you hop - bending your arms more or something. Other than that there's not a lot you can do. Have a read of this thread, there are loads of people who have had this problem. It usually goes away though.

I agree with everything except this. I don't think the bearings are bigger, because the axle is fatter so the bearings are still pretty small. Shimano BBs are absolutely rubbish. They seize up after a matter of a few rides, and mine has started grinding and squeaking really badly - it's only 3 months old. Cynics call this 'inbuilt redundancy' - I.e. they are made to wear out so you have to buy a new one every 6 months. I think it's quite brave for CK to bring out a bottom bracket. I guess they've done their testing, but even if it lasts 3 times as long as a Shimano one, that's still not really long enough, considering they make headsets and hubs that are made to last 10 years or more... Time will tell I suppose. I wondered that, and I couldn't work out if it was just the normal shimano Hollowtech tool you'd need. It looks very similar to me.

Eeeesh, embarrassing

So, in shocking news that won't really affect any trials riders, Chris King are making bottom brackets. But only for Shimano cranks. Does anyone even use that kind of BB on a trials bike? Oh well. The other slightly more useful bit of information is that they are now doing everything in a cool brown colour. www.ChrisKing.com $130 from here, although unfortunately you can't buy one yet: http://www.aspirevelotech.com/Merchant2/me...Code=CK_BB_73MM

I think that Ben just likes a good debate, more than actually arguing HIS point. Which is fair enough? Don't forget about the element of confounding. Perhaps arseholes drink alcohol to exonerate them from the blame of being an arsehole?

It wasn't the fact that he was a senior (who would care about that?), it was the fact he was a moderator. So he would have been able to (un)approve news topics, delete/ edit posts and generally cause trouble for the other shops if he really wanted to. Obviously anyone who knows Adam will know that he wouldn't do that, but there was clearly a conflict of interest so it made sense to "un mod" him.

It links to the post that you click on, not simply the topic.

You're not as funny as you used to be.

Not a mac question but I thought some people might be following the Apple news and can help me? Basically there were some rumours a couple of months ago (in July) that the iPhone was going to be coming out on Orange in the UK, possibly some time in October. Is there any more news on this, is it likely to happen etc? My contract runs out next month and I fancy an iPhone on Orange, but I can't work out if I should be waiting for an announcement. Is there anyone in the know?

Nah, they were sold as a proper product in their own right. But I think they probably came out of the same machine - after all no one really made alu forks for XC bikes because they're too stiff and uncomfortable. But yeah, Fattys are cool. The only problem is that you'll struggle to find a new set (unless that link is correct), and most old sets will have probably seen a fair bit of use! To be honest, I'd probably just go for some Deng forks these days - cheaper, lighter and probably just as strong. You have to remember that when Fattys came out, they were basically the only strong aluminium rigid fork you could buy. Now there's loads of choice - I mean look how many different ones Tarty does: http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/search.php?category_id=40

Damon, this isn't the place for this. TF isn't the place to talk about drug regimes, even if they are legal (which I am having my doubts about). Besides, as a lot of people have pointed out, if you want to keep your sponsors then this really isn't the best advert for you, so you're better off going to another forum where you'll be able to get advice about it without completely screwing yourself over (sponsor-wise) in the process. Oh, and please make some more effort with your posts. It makes it easier for everyone, and plenty of people have been warned for less.
-
I'm not quite sure how your sponsors would feel about having a steroid-user on their team. It doesn't really set a good example to the kids. Equally, I'm not sure what the legalities are about competing in high-level trials comps (nationals/worlds) - if you ever plan to that is. Just some stuff to think about.

One thing's for sure, it had nothing to do with those huge holes. The question is - when he rebuilds his wheel, will he give the same treatment to his new rim?

Ahaha good detective skills. You win.

I know what Kev is on about though - I've been listening to Radio 4 recently and the last week has been like a stuck record - all you ever hear about is banking news, opinions from former executives about how the whole system is going down the pan. But then I look around me and my life is the same as it was a month ago. My rent is the same, I still have the same amount of cash in my pocket, petrol has actually come down in price. If I didn't listen to the news, I wouldn't have a clue that the whole country was self-destructing. My girlfriend's brother-in-law worked for Lehmann though, he hasn't done very well out of this crunch thing... (I find the news becomes much more interesting if you imagine that credit crunch is actually a new brand of cereal)

It sounds like some kind of VPN software that you have used to access the school network. There should be a way to turn the VPN access on/off - so you only connect to the school internet when you have to. I don't know what software you've installed but I'm pretty sure there's a simple solution. Find out the name of the software and get back...

Yep! Well done. Although I reckon you've heard it before (or something similar)

Well, twins can be born in separate labours as much as a month apart, but that ruins the riddle I'm guessing that the answer you're looking for is something along the lines of this: They were born either side of midnight on a non-leap year, and when a leap year comes along their birthdays are 2 days apart? Ok, how about this one: Four men are sitting in a room, having been given a hat to wear. There are 2 black hats and 2 white hats. The men don't know what colour hat they are wearing. They are sitting in a row facing the front of the room and can only see the other men in front of them, although they know the layout of the room. There is a wall separating the first person from the other three, and this is the colour of their hats: FRONT OF ROOM w __ b w b BACK One of the men can work out the colour of the hat he is wearing with the information he has. Which man, and how? P.S. If you already know the answer, don't spill it.

If you don't give them the option then there's no way that a crooked buyer could abuse the system. Sending stuff by recorded delivery is to protect YOU (the seller) - it doesn't make it get there any faster, and it shouldn't technically make it more likely to arrive either, and it doesn't affect the compensation you can get when it's lost. But you can get proof that it's arrived to cover your back. As it stands you have no rights here at all, the only thing you can hope is that it turns up, in which case everyone's happy. If you are totally convinced that the buyer is telling lies, you could consider not refunding the money, but then you'll end up in lots of trouble with paypal/ebay. You really don't have an option, you're going to have to cough up the refund. So the moral of the story is to always use recorded post.
