Ive just had to regrind my rear rim after 3 months, was last done at the beginning of october. Was a sharp medium grind (disk at a shallow angle) and lasted well up until the last couple of weeks where it just stopped biting and holding. I havent been riding a huge amount recently due to injuries and lack of time though so I would expect to have to regrind every 6-8 weeks or so when riding full time DX32 with heatsink reds.
Typically trials bikes use a 68mm BB shell, although there are some exceptions like the vario styx which uses a 100mm shell. Axle length is generally determined by whether or not you are using front freewheel or not. If you have a fixed front sprocket then you can get away with a 122 BB, if you have front freewheel then you need a 127/128 axle. You may be able to get away with a shorter BB with fixed front sprocket.
The taper will be JIS (same as shimano and 90% of mtb cranks) I think its only campag that uses a different taper; especially as its monty it will be fine
My stock is 9kg I guess the average weight stock comp bike will be about 10kg. You can get really silly light but you start to lose strength and reliability, mines 9kg without skimping on any really weak components (dob rims & forks etc). Dont know about mods but I reckon 8kg would be considered really quite light
To be honest I think you will be lucky to get your order within the next 3 months, what with it having to go to canada; after all that it will probably be wrong
You're not allowed to come because you smell I believe the train station is only across the road from the crown courts, well google maps appears to think so
98 Kona fire mountain - stolen 99 DMR trailstar - changed frame as it was too short. 99 Club roost stinger - stolen (along with my mint standard sta ) 98 Santacruz chameleon - changed frame as I wanted to go DD. 02 Santacruz chameleon - still got it but now used for normal bike riding. 03 Saracen mad - 1st proper trials frame, couldnt get on with it. 03 Zoo boa - awesome frame, so light but cracked at top of seatstay in 05 05 Echo hifi - return to trials riding after 3 years off, BB too high and too heavy. 06 Triton deema - featherweight and perfect geo 9 frames over 9 years The triton is my current bike and favourite so far
Now dont you be picking on my irc Going to be replaced with something from conti that should be a touch lighter Front disk is a good point, my vee is more than useable though, just the noise is a bit annoying I reckon the bike could go down to about 8.7-8.8kg with a bit more money thrown at it, Im happy with it at 9kg though seing as its already better than I am
There are a series of tunnels/bunkers in the village where I grew up, used to be a aero engine factory during wwII and was converted to a government bunker during the cold war. Never been down there but a load of people from school got in there and had a look around http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drakelow_Tunnels
Triton deema Pace forks Trialtech bar/stem king/dx32/rubber queen rear wheel hope mono/xc717/irc mythos xc (to be replaced with a race king) front wheel Standard tubes RB magura rear with carbon 2bolt booster SD7 with coustsinks Middleburns with lightened cloud9 bash Hope ti BB Currently 9.05kg could put my old BT forks back on and take it down to 8.915kg Aluminium and titanium bolts would be lighter but I cant be arsed. Very light, very flicky and awesome to ride
If my pistons have got a bit stiff and lazy then the pads can rub, got an RB lever like alex though so pads are closer to the rim; the triton frame is pretty flexy too so that doesnt really help things
Actually it will be a 3/8" 26tpi british cycle thread, something completely different to M10x1 But as said its just a standard cycle axle available from any good bike shop for about a fiver or so, just thread your bearing cones and locknuts on and jobs a goodun.
What about the other 72g he wants to get rid of? Very nice, mines lighter though, need to lose 50g to tip 9kg again Try the rubber queen, mines astonishingly grippy, even in snow; the bounce takes a bit of getting used to though
Why dont you buy a middleburn spider and just fit a normal ring? Or if you have access to a cnc mill then you could make your own, Im sure if you talk nicely to steve@heatsink he might give you a cad drawing of the spline detail; failing that middleburn might even give you the profile.
Cant be done Well not without bodging a load of spoke lengths and generally having a really shite wheelbuild Dont bother wasting your time trying, 32rim onto 36 hub can be done relatively easy, but not vice versa Im afraid.
Im using coustsink vee pads on the front on a mavic xc717, used to be smooth and the brake was pretty good, bite and hold wasnt awesome but there was enough power and good modulation - get it wet though and it was worthless as can be expected. Put the lightest grind on there possible (literally spin the wheel and touch the disk on at a shallow angle for about a second) and its transformed, bite and hold are unreal and its still got a fair amount of modulation (though not as much as a disk). Cousts are meant to run on a grind to the best of my knowledge
