  1. I love christmas but its a real anti climax after it all. I'm not keen on the fact that crimbo shopping begins at the end of August and its a 3 month build up for the sake of one day. But every year my family and my girlfriends family always do something different so its something to look forward to. Like a few years ago we went to feureteventura and we have family get togethers away from our own homes as the family lives allover the country so we hire a big house for a weekend a few weeks before christmas. I think the reason people dislike christmas is all the shit that comes with it, like shopping starting way too early and the money and crap that is not necessary. I like christmas with my family becuase its varied and friends come back from uni and people you dont get to see a lot come out of the woodwork. The tellys quite good too, gives a kind of warming feeling for some reason
  2. I find it really interesting but theres a lot of things in the videos which seem to be assumed or stated that might not even necessarily be true, it says something about cairo and mars having some sort of link with translation or something? Surely anybody can tie one thing to another and make it look really sinister but I dont know what in that is actually fact and made up... I also find it interesting how people say that it is impossible for any other life forms to live on different planets due to lack of water and properties required for life. But that may only apply to this planet and with evolution and adaptation creatures, insects or whatever else may exist one way or another on different planets... anyway I could go on all day about this but it doesn't answer the BIG question which is whether Aliens built the Pyramids. Good find and very interesting, yet biased and a bit far fetched
  3. I don't often post on here but read a lot of post of what people say realating to my interests, It always leaves me feeling sad and empty when I hear of such a tragic loss and recently it has been far too often! The forum has been brialliant at not only making close relatives to Oli come to terms with such an awful loss but everybody who he has had an impact with. I've read a lot of posts from Oli and as much as possible tried to follow the build of his cars because it was always an interesting read. People have already said it but I would love to reitterate how the closeness of this forum brings so many emotions together. Everybody joins together whether they are close or not to a particular person to show support in any way. It is not very often when so many people can show so much respect that they want to actually make donations to make a dream happen and I for one would love to make that one persons dream happen! Rest in peace, I never knew you but you certainly had an impact on how I think about things now and in the future

    Music Makers?

It could just be that Fruity Loops is shit and there are so many better packages out there. Just get a simple sequencer and you're on your way, FL Studio is proper confusing, its supposed to be simple but a real faff. Thats my opinion on using a fair few software packages anyway

    Music Makers?

As people have already said, just build everything up one bit at a time. It's so easy to listen to a track and think straight away that you want to be able to make something like that. It's harder to put that into practice and actually create it because of the vast amount of sounds that are in there and the production techniques which are used to create something that sounds so good. Maybe you also want to make music which is well off limits, Aphex Twin is good but he is extremely talented and has been doing it for years, I've been attempting to make music for the past few years and some of the stuff in Aphex Twins music is really hard unless you actually know the techniques and can dissect the sounds piece by piece. Don't start off by making a complete masterpiece, get a little 4bar drum loop going, then try programming 16bars with fills etc *** on top of that whether you do it on guitar, keyboard, synth etc it completely up to you and the sound you want to create. Build it up piece by piece and keep adding bits in. I've never used Sony Acid but the principles are all the same, even the best musicians get writers block and start small, you just need patience and as said before dont throw any ideas away because a part which may sound crap on its own might fit with other parts may just give it a hook. You also mentioned trying for 8 hours at a time, dont get stuck in the rut, put something down, take a break, do something else and then come back to it becuase its just information overload and it will do you no favours
  6. This may seem like a strange post but it was a conversation that came about in a lecture. I'm on a Music Tech course at University and Sony are apparently really bad at marketing their new technology ideas, Mini Disc for example... Anyway the conversation was focussed around a discussion of pornography, not becuase everybody in the group are a bunch of seedy scum bags but because Sony did exactly the same with Betamax. I'm no expert like so don't quote me but heres a link relating to this. http://www.computerworld.com/action/articl...ticleId=9008579
  7. I've had a crack at making some DnB tracks and its really really hard work, the good stuff is anyway lol. My friends brother used to be signed to LTJ Bukems Good Looking Records label and is now signed to his own label called Covert Operations, Check out his myspace its http://www.myspace.com/ascintexsystems got some pretty good stuff, but he works more on the deeper more emotional side of DnB, worth a listen anyway
  8. I've worked in a Timber Merchants for the past 5 or so years as a Saturday guy and full time when Ive been off of college/uni etc. Teak is a bit of a no go really as it is MEGA expensive, where other hardwoods cost maybe £25 per cubic foot Teak is £180 per cubic foot plus vat! Which soon adds up to cost a fortune. Iroko probably the closest match to Teak at a fraction of the price and maybe not as pretty. My advice would be to go down to a local merchant who knows what theyre talking about. Have a look at what they have in their sheds and take it from there and actually compare the grain and colour of the wood with a sample of the wood you're using to make the table top. That is all
  9. Its not an Acer Aspire 5670 is it or any Acer. Mine seems to do it periodically but then gets its act together and comes back after a few days. Very strange and haven't been able to find any solution to it online
  10. Sounds pretty cool. I like it a lot. What software you use to create the tracks? I tend to use Reason as its really easy to work with but also used Cubase for working with proper audio and its sequencers about a million times better. I'm on a Creative Music and Sound Technology course at University so its good to listen to other peoples work and take ideas from them for my own stuff.
  11. I really like that way of looking at it. I've never been interested in drugs altho like a lot of peolpe have said some of my friends take them. What I can't understand with them and what I've seen a great deal at festivals and such is the few hours they're out of their face is extremely annoying and just over the top and from then on they are the most miserable set of twats on the planet. Whats the fun in that?
  12. I definitely dig! Been listening to it quite regularly really, the deadmau5 track is bang on! I love it and it's thanks to this mix that I've been listening to a lot more electro etc. Coming from a Thrash Metal background I have recently fallen in love with this genre now the hype has died down a bit. Good mix mate and good choice of tunes
  13. I don't think its fair for people who live well out of the way of their friends for example who can't drive. When I first passed my test my girlfriend was unable to drive so if she wanted to come to mine one night I picked her up and then dropped her off home. If I was unable to take her home I would either have to travel all the way to her house and back on public transport which by the time she left would be pretty much packed up or she goes on her own putting herself in even more danger. I think its a load of bollocks really because I've seen when my friends are out driving in packs they drive like arse holes basically to show what their 1litre corsas are made of and try to overtake people and dont have the power to finish it off and end up in more danger than if they were all in 1 motor not showing off or doing anything daft. I realise that people in 1 car still act like pricks but if 1 person overtakes a car it ends up been a convoy and gets silly and quite scary. Maybe I'm beginning to talk crap but theres a point in there somewhere
  14. It's as easy or as hard as you want to make it for yourself. If you want to complicate matters you can have a go at combining loads of synth sounds and samples together with everything possible or you could just use it as a soft synth and play around with its whacky bits. It's a cracking piece of kit and especially interesting when used with ReCycle for putting your own audio samples and whatever else in. It's also much cheaper than filling a room with Moogs and old analogue jobbies
  15. I saw them at St Georges Hall in Bradford. Sanctity or whatever they called were shithot, cheesy but really good. Gojira seemed a bit repetitive, Annihilator were alrite but had a shite sound and to say im not really a massive fan of Trivium i thought they were shithot! Really good presence live! Proper good and all for £15... BARGAIN
  16. It was just so Top Gear could say they've got the fastest speed on british soil but it had to officially be done twice to be official. So even though top gear have done the fastest speed on british soil the car owners still hold the actual official record. Something like that anyway, i think it said that on ITN or Sky News
  17. Aint that what him and kate moss have in common, both get smashed on top gear. Similar to the Elton John one
  18. Why dont they just spend the money on making london more cycle friendly? Theyre mental these people, ride on the road and get wiped out by a bus one way and a cab the other. Maybe thats a bit far fetched but if theyre going to make laws like that they may as well make it slightly more user friendly for cyclists and try reduce the number of vehicles in the main centre.
  19. Are most types of string made on the same production line anyway and then just packaged up differently though?
  20. Do you mean just importing the pre recorded files into the program? On Cubase SX all you have to do is set up a new project and then go to File>Import>Audio file, job done
  21. £1600 on a 1997 1.2 Corsa with Quinn direct
  22. One of my friends had the same problem, I think though it was something to do with his hub. Dont really know the ins and outs like but it was something like that :(
  23. Geronimo Look out below Here comes the Brother with the offbeat flow I just fell from the mothership blah blah blah I'm blue da ba di da ba dah... Classy!
  24. I went to leeds as its closer to home. Foo Fighters were such an ace band to finish the festival off with. I was pretty impressed with NOFX for the comedy value and Iron Maiden whole show blew me away. Can hardly speak now though, ay well
