  1. OK Richard Branson See how it goes but i'm flying into Heathrow.
  2. I'll be flying back from Munich that day so if not too shattered i'll be out.
  3. 29" wheels are a recent development in the traditional MTB scene and seem to be gaining momentum. I'm not sure if they can be used for sanctioned events yet but some top class riders are taking them on board as the next best thing. Like most things MTB related, anything new gets adopted and then adapted to trials. Is there a place for 29" wheels in the trials world?
  4. I dont recommend Shimano IG for trials. I got a fair bit of life out this this one but i've never snapped one in this way before.
  5. I'm definitely NOT going if that gay is going. His obsession with dog poo is too disturbing.
  6. I run SD7 lever and arms with V adaptors, Maggie Black pads and a booster on the front of a PX and its awesome. I used to run HS11 but the V setup is much better.
  7. I'm not familiar with Kingz tensioners but what you say about angle of wrap is true. The more the better. If it can be adjusted so it sits up close the the chain stay and possibly remove a link I think it might help. Is it an alignment issue? Can you space the surly across in the direction the chain wants to ride up?
  8. I grew up in the era of Hans Rey (and Tinker Juarez for all you XC geeks) and knew some guys who did demo's etc . Was very inspired by vids like Evolve (on Video - anyone remember those?)but never got into it due to XC and road racing. After I stopped racing and moved to this country I bought my first trials bike and have been hooked ever since.
  9. Thats sweet dude. You're not going to miss the 24". Dead keen to have a thrash on that.
  10. Some huge moves there Ben. Good to meet you last w/e for the Bristol ride.
  11. Sydney - Australia. Only because I used to live there and only started trials when I moved to the UK. I can now appreciate all the awesome spots to ride there - I was a bit blinded before by the XC/Roadie scene.
  12. I agree its a mismatch of pitches between the old sprockets and the fresh new chain. Out of pitch means it'll skip or run through under load. Theres no need to replace all at once though. You should be able to get about 3 chains per sprocket set, just replace them at regular intervals (before they wear too much and then you're up for a new set). Either get a chain wear indicator tool or take your bike into your LBS and they'll measure it for you. Generally they'll do this for nothing since its potentially a purchase of a new chain.
  13. Have been running these for a while now. Good (and cheap) investment in my opinion. The only problem I had was that they run a bit closer to the rim so set up was more critical when using new pads. I cant speak for all fork/rim combinations though. Now that the pads have worn a little they are mint. Running SD7.
  14. Short vid from yesterday. Very little post editing, a few clips straight off the cam of the guys I was mostly riding with. A couple of different locations from Bens vid.
  15. If you want a Canon go for the new 400D. Its actually cheaper in places than the 350D.
  16. Haha, dont turn your back. Ordered from CRC who are pretty good usually. If not i'll just break 2 links outta the old one.
  17. Could well be if my chain turns up in the am. First ride last night since the last time I saw you (mid December was it?) and snapped my chain.
  18. You can park it outside mine if you want. Its a short ride to the Temple of Meads. Plenty of space and free! PM me or summin if you want the addy.
  19. Not sure about levers (perhaps a small inductive coil is possible?) but you can get heated grips for motorbikes with a switch and rheostat. A mate at work uses them and says they're lush in this kind of weather. Perhaps something could be adapted for trials bars with a small battery pack.
  20. Have been running a Suntour (very similar to Truvativ) 4 bolt for a while and it holds up really well - especially since i'm not very good at trials and land on it heaps. Beauty of it is that if it gets mushed just rotate it 180° and get more life out of it.
  21. Getting a nice clean cut is important on both cables and housing to stop them fraying etc. There is a method I have used which works well when you dont have cable cutters nearby (ie on a trail miles from home). You need 1) a sharp knife (like on those multi-tools, not a kitchen knife etc), 2)something firm to put the cable/housing on - good piece of dead wood or a rock that wont shatter, 3) something to strike the blade of the knife with - another rock. 2 can be subsituted for a hard bench or even a flat piece of steel. 3 can be substituted for a hammer. Place the blade over the cable/housing on the hard surface and whack it hard with the hammer in a single go.
  22. Looks good. Where do you sleep now that your room looks like a garage?
  23. Assuming you are turning it the right way, try a looong extension bar or a bit of heat or both. If that doesnt work you could resort to cutting it out with a dremel. Save the frame at least.
