smoking vs vaping vs quitting completely

Smoking is for NOT A GOOD PERSONS. It's one of the most idiotic things to do in the world. You pay money for decreasing your physical abilities and slowly killing yourself. I don't know what you can discuss about it, everything about smoking is obviously even for kids.

So you don't need vaping or completely quitting, if you have at least a little bit of intellect - you just will not start.

You're missing some very important points.

1. Smoking is cool.

2. Smoking is nice (for some).

3. Smoking is relaxing.

4. Smoking can be sociable and a good ice breaker.

I smoked when going out drinking and socialising was my main hobby, then I started climbing more and socialising less (growing up) so I quit.

Safe to assume you've never drank alcohol then? And avoid things like McDonald's at all costs? Just tap water and fresh veg at all times, right?

*everything you have ever said*

I have assessed the situation , after looking at your previous posts I had hoped to view the larger picture before making this statement.

You're an utter bellslap.

Now if this is just due to a language barrier which is making it difficult for you not to come across as an obnoxious snob then I hugely appologise. However I think it is more than likely a trait of your character.

If only we could all see the world in your elitest rose tinted spectacles, I'm sure the world would be a much nicer place.

thats not true, for me at least.100ml cost me 14€ and if an atomizer dies,it costs 6.-, or atomizer heads ,3 of them 7,-,happens aproximately every 3 months.

liquid lasts 2 months.so pretty cheap compared to cigs.

are they regulated in uk?here in germany you can buy all that stuff without taxes, our federal judges declared it as a lifestyle product, only regulation is that a shop that sells liquid has to declare the ingredients through a lab analysis(costs 80 to do it for a batch).

if that wasnt the case that stuff would be even cheaper.

Slowly being regulated. I think it's currently at the discretion of the company. Though planes and trains don't allow e-cigs, or at least the ones i went on. Also it's already considered socially unacceptable by allot of people. Though some commend the effort with a comment.

I currently know of only one brand of e-cig that are being sold near me as i live in a town. It's £8 for 5 refills. A refill will last 2 days at best. The problem also it's hard to regulate how many you use. Smoking is a habit, if that habit can be replaced with an easier habit, it doesn't work so well. You can pace how many fags you smoke, it's harder to pace an e-cig because it keeps going. Though with practice i found it quite helpful and was able to limit it's usage, but still, wayyyyy too expensive.

Joining in on the bandwagon hate club. Bikes have killed my body, retirement age for me is likely to be 70. The rest speaks for itself.

This is not in defence of smoking, but in defence of your comment.

It's down to the individual more than anything, surely? I know when JD was using them during the roadtrip last year he said that one thing he preferred about being an eFag was that he could just have a couple of puffs where as with a "real" fag it's generally just the case that you finish them in integer amounts.

If somebody wants to quit I can see how they'd help but only if you've got the will-power to do it. If that's the case then really you should be in a position to go cold turkey.

Ive been pretty ill for the last week or so but better now, throughout that time I was smoking considerably less and it felt good I suppose. My boss brought this up today (ex smoker) and suggested I just stop, no one last cig or anything and at that moment it seemed such a good idea, then lunchtime came and without even thinking I sparked up. However depending on the next few days I may give in and attempt at least to give up.

Everyone says if you don't want to quit you won't and I agree from pathetic attempts in the past but this time maybe. Might jump back on the patches though none of this vape hot air stuff.

the amount of nic your skin is able to suck up is way more unpredictable than vaping, just saying.lets say youre lying a lot(more of a joke to illustrate this :) ),your skin resistance lowers and that leads to sweating.nicotine is highly water soluble,so that´d increase the amount of nic that you consume.your skin pores are open, the stuff goes in.

thats the reason medics are still sceptical about nic patches.

oral substitution doesnt work for a similar reason, nic is double as toxic compared to inhaling when taken oral.means vaping 6-8mg ,but eating 3-4mg per kg of body weight would kill you.thats because when inhaled its resorbed after about 10 mins, when consumed cutan or oral its accumulating over time, because its always there

i´m sounding like i am defending vaping again, not the case, even smoking isnt as toxic as those patches if you put the carbon monoxide and carcinogenes aside.

patches though none of this vape hot air stuff.

edit-de-germanized this,spelling haha

  • 2 weeks later...

Read the first few posts then got bored so if i've interrupted things then that's why XD

I started out in life detesting smoking, finding it repulsive and pointless...
I was always offered them when I was out with my mates but I never accepted..

Then when I was around 14/15 I gave in, did it more like Dan mentioned his mates did on the first page, and hey presto got addicted...

It wasn't till around 5 months ago I bought an e cig to keep the gf happy since she lost two aunties because of smoking.. I was still smoking when using that but for the past three months I've been on the e cig only.

I reccomend them to any smoker as an ALTERNATIVE. They should NEVER be sold as a quitting aid, if anything I use the e cig more than I smoked, because I can do it pretty much anywhere.

I don't like using it, yet most of the time I am doing. I tell people I'm quitting, but that is pretty much a lie.
The best way to quit is to just stop. I've tried stopping around 6-7 times now but since I'm not really motivated to do it I just keep going back.

They're not the same thing, I still crave cigarettes because of this, and I've even resorted to rolling my mates cigs just so I can feel like I'm back to my old routine.

They are a good product for an alternative like I've said, but since there has been no government testing I'm sceptical as whether to believe they are "healthy"
But when the government testing is done, I can almost guarantee that it will be negative, but I will still be sceptical, since the government will be loosing out on tax from cigarettes I doubt anything good will be said, the only other thing would be for them to tax them as a tobacco product which will probably make me want to pack it in..

£80 a month on baccy £10 a month on e liquid...

Positives - No Carcinogens, Way cheaper, smells nice, tastes nice (for the girlfriend ;) )

Negatives - will not always be a good vape, can find yourself without pretty easy, relying on battery and all, coils need to be replaced, liquid is messy, you have to say to the people at the pub you can't go out for a cig because you forgot to charge it. It has the potential to make you more addicted, making it harder to quit.

These are my experiences with them, and they have become this, from thinking they are "the golden product" and the answers to my prayers, they're a little bit over-rated :/

in the first 2 weeks i found myself vaping more than i used to smoke(in terms of "puffs"),too, but now i am pretty much on the level i were with cigs.

i had to find the right amount of nicotine for my liquids, entered too low with 9mg.

seems like you have to take into account what amount and kind of real cig you were using before,i smoked like 10-15(15 was more likely when drinking) cigs a day,12mg wouldve been more equal to that,so i ended up vaping 24/7 with the 9mg.

interesting other people were craving for cigs while being vapers, never had that, from the second day on.

now theyre just stinky little b*stards, bah.

missus is still smoking, she doesnt like the consistency of the vapour as it seems, everytime she lights up a cig my nose is nearly falling off :)

another plus(in above case a minus haha):everything smells and tastes 10 times better since i changed to vaping.

interesting opinions so far, other than me there was only one active vaper until now.
