  1. Just saying it again to reinforce how valid an answer it is: find out for yourself. I ride with Josh, and he runs (in my opinion) dangerously soft tyres. They practically fall off the rim if you turn a corner a little too quickly. I hate them, but that's what he likes and where some of his bounce comes from. I personally find that (due to whatever quirks my technique has) soft tyres absorb more force than they return, like soft suspension when travelling along flat ground. I run my tyres reasonably firm so I get a more direct transfer of power. Harder tyres also let you roll faster, for longer, and carve more aggressively if that's something that bothers you. A safe bet is to put them at around 25psi and ride it. When you find something you can't get up, let a little air out. It works for most people. If it doesn't work for you, put a little more in. It's a sucky answer, but you really do just have to find out for yourself. No-one can tell you what you like. (But start with 25ish as I'd wager it's pretty much the average of the range of pressures people run, so not a bad place to start.)
  2. Cheers guys, that's very reassuring. I'll get a set ordered.
  3. This is exactly the case, so I'll try it first (and hopefully last).Thank you.
  4. I wanted very much for these to work out, but it seems my expectations are more realistic than my hopes Have to wonder at Deng's testing procedures (if there are any). What went wrong?! Why start trying to compete with Koxx when you have such a large share of the market already (back when he made the trademark strong-Deng parts)?
  5. I used to really rate Onza Citrus Greens with a soft-pad grind. Think they were about 40 grit. Did it as they were quite soft, but it rained a lot. Turned out real good!
  6. So - I'll take them apart and have a look. If Dez's diagnosis is right, I'll just get some new forks. If he's not, from what my uneducated self can gather, it's probably just these that need replacing? (Are these what people call the "top seals" or the "main seals", or are they the same thing?) Obviously with oil changes etc. Are there any giveaway signs to look out for that it's something else? (Or is it super obvious - like the o-rings will have tears in them or something?) Thanks, I know it must be painful trying to explain intricate systems to someone who's never even looked at them Edit: Searching for seal kits, the only packs that come up are ones like these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fox-Forx-Fork-SKF-32mm-Low-Friction-Seal-Kit-803-00-613-Talas-Van-Float-/160836572746?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_Cycling_BikeLocks_SR&hash=item25729b564a Would this do it? It's this area that the oil's coming out of, but I didn't know if that might be because too much is flooding in from elsewhere in the leg. Also - is suspension fluid suspension fluid, or do different forks need different types? From what I've read, any 10wt fluid is Ok, but thought I'd check. (Coming from a background of Dot5 destroys Magura o-rings... don't wanna do something akin to that.) Thanks again.

    Saturday Come Slow

Bunch of places... Leicester, Hinckley, London, Birmingham, Sheffield and Milton Keynes. Thanks everyone! I feel good about this video
  8. So I was out on my Marin today. Finally getting to grips with having three times the travel I used to have and the comparatively insane speeds the bike lets me travel at (still pretty slow ). Unfortunately, I've managed to blow a seal in the forks (Fox Talas 32s). I suspect it was from riding the other day whilst having the lockout engaged. I've never had to dismantle suspension before, so I'm a little worried about it - especially as the two people I was with couldn't agree on whether it was the "top" or "bottom" seals. Are there any pictures I can take that'll let you guys in the know tell me? I've done a bit of looking on the internet, and it doesn't seem all that difficult to dis- and re-assemble the forks, but all the guides I've found only show one set (the dust-wiper things. This guide seems the best I've found, but the only seals mentioned are the top ones. Do all forks have a "top" and "bottom" set, and the others just aren't listed in this guide? I don't want to buy replacements only to find they're the wrong ones. I know I could just get them serviced, but I want to be able to do this myself for future instances, and don't want to pay the frankly absurd prices places are asking for. If you need/it would be easier to diagnose with specific pictures, let me know. I understand I'll probably have to dismantle them to take said pictures, but that's Ok since I can't ride them anyway Cheers!
  9. Sooooooo f**king jealous of that sidehop-railride line in Morley. Saw it the very first time I went there. Ridden there a lot of times since and not once did I pluck up the balls for it. Super stoked to see someone do it Rest was rather massive too, but the rail was definitely my favourite for sentiment's sake, I guess.
  10. There's no official UK importers, so your best bet is eBay, unfortunately.
  11. Ignore Mark. He's completely wrong. No bicycle chains are strong enough to withstand use on our bicycles. I was thinking about motorbike chains, but had clearance issues. Brick-dust on a chain after crushing it in to bricks is a sign of imminent failure - you should definitely do something about it. I'd recommend finding the most expensive, heaviest chain you can and changing them every three weeks maximum. Brakeless puts a lot of stress on chains, so I've been thinking of converting my drivetrain components to accommodate on of these: It'll be tricky, but it might work out. Just hope this one's actually strong enough! Probably isn't though.

  13. Hahaha. You thought that was a failure? He said carbon cranks, not slate
  14. You might also find a whole bunch of them on tv.isg.si
  15. I said "6 months" as that's what I quoted. I don't know what the current expected waiting time is, so I just assumed the person who said it had got it from somewhere. When I got mine - about 18 months ago now so waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before the whole "taking on too much work" thing - I waited over four months. Maybe he "hurried" yours along as a team rider Jaf doesn't offer heat-treatment because they just don't need it - the same reason Marino should offer it as an option, not force you to have it. If it's anything to go by - both of my Jaf frames (AND my Marino, which is made from the same material as he still uses, making the whole thing very questionable ) have not been heat-treated. I only changed from the first one because I wanted to shed some weight once he had access to lighter tubesets. Can't argue with the price point though. Cost of materials (and the cost of living, after all) is more expensive over here. Pay a bit more for a short wait, or a bit less for a long wait - it's up to the punter. Haha. (If you pay a bit more and go with Jaf, you might also get the luxury of the geometry ending up what you asked for )
  16. Then they're stupid. 6 months is ridiculous. Especially when you can have it within 2 weeks via Jaf.
  17. Love everything about his riding. Always have, and I think I always will.
  18. Listed as 73.5, so I guess it's just a funny angle or something. So refreshing. I don't dislike Inspireds, but it's nice to see something made for similar job that looks a bit different [Edit: by which I mean almost everyone with a 24 have Inspireds - not that all brands' 24s look the same as Inspireds.] Really nice shade of green.
  19. I started going down this route. Fortunately, I was a student at the time so simply couldn't afford to do it properly I had three for a while, and then I got a fourth. After a few weeks I found I was only using it because it was there, and really didn't need it. I couldn't afford a rack either, so they were laterally spaced, which really f**ked with speaker placement. I dropped down to two 1680x1050s, and it's been enough for most everything (general use, video editing, and audio production). At work though, they provide a 1920x1080 and a 1280x1024, which does feel a little limiting occasionally when chopping and re-organizing a but-load of PHP files. A third might be nice, but I don't think I could ever justify eight:P If I could afford it and warrant having it, I'd be super all-over it, and be copying you. Haha. Props for reppin' Voyager, too! Been a loooooooong time.
  20. I fully hated this colour when it was just the frame, but built up with all-black components it looks quite nice! Just a shame the rear rim's sidewall has to be bright silver Smooth rim whilst hoping for good weather and it would be even nicer

  22. I don't know - I've nothing to do with it Just know that it works! Hahaha. He's done super awkward ones in the past though, so I'm sure he'll manage
