The thing is it takes 5 mins to download, and 3 minutes to watch. Why not just wait? He's not going to panic if he doesn't get a reply straight away.

This isn't a dig at you in particular (well actually it is), but what's the point in what you've just said?
-
That was me. I was riding in Colchester. So yeah, it was probably me. On a Leeson.

I didn't really like the video, but in your defence it's on par with most of the videos about at the moment. The riding was good, but the editing/filming is what sticks in people's minds. I may not post much nowadays, but I'm forever seeing posts about videos saying "great riding, shit video" and although I usually agree with them, it seems a shame that people's standards are so high. There have been a lot of great videos in the past: Biketrials-uk, TrialsKings etc, but it's hard to compare everyday videos to those. It's great that people have high standards, but until this video becomes below average then it seems a shame to really criticise, because as this stands, most videos I see are about this good whether they have Craig Lee Scott or Dan from Hull in them. Basically what I can't understand is how so many people object to this kind of video, yet it's all I ever seem to see. Why not up the overall quality of videos by offering friendly criticism or by making your own video. Hope that makes sense, Stephen.

Why I didn't like the video... check out 1.02 - 1.13 which is eleven seconds of one move played first in colour, then in black and white, then from 2 different angles - nice one. Also, it's one thing saying that the moves were repetetive, but what about the locations? I saw so much of the same places I felt as if I'd been there....I haven't by the way. I have to say I prefer the Matt Berridge, Fluid 23 and Fat Mike school of video making.... tight editing that goes with good music, it's hardly rocket science. Stephen.

Shell Centre at 11am. The Shell Centre is half way between Waterloo station and the Millennium Eye. Listen out for the schreeching of brakes or Chai screaming like a girl. What station will you be arriving at? I can probably sort you out with directions. Either that or use streetmap. Stephen.

I'm still playing my NES - games for £1 on ebay... you can't go wrong.

London will be perfectly fine to ride on September 11th. All the riding spots are miles away from places of terror, and there won't be any terrorist attacks anyway. It's a Sunday which is when the city is relatively empty compared to a weekday. I'll be there weather permitting with my camcorder and 8mm camera!

You might be right, I'm just not sure how I'd come across if I had a perfectly good degree but pretty average GCSE's and A levels. I certainly want to add a degree in Marketing to my degree in Media, but again I might just be better getting a masters in Media. Once I've finished university though, the concept of any more learning, apart from training courses, does seem a little far fetched.

Critical Thinking is a really good subject. I only took it because I needed an extra subject for a year, and it didn't have any homework so required minimal effort. It's a bit like basic 'theory of knowledge' philosophy but with common sense instead of Descartes. Anyway, I got 297/300 for the exam which was the highest mark ever back in 2002, but I'm sure somebody has beaten me since. Maybe not though, I could still be Britain's most critical thinker. I did terribly in my A levels, and whilst I'm happy at university now, I may retake some A levels when I get older. Stephen.

It's the Leeson chainstay which has aluminium cups in which the bolt sits. There's no real way of gripping the bolt so I'll have to drill it out I think. Anyway, I'm hoping I can sort it out. The video will be filmed over the next 2 months and I'll edit it by early October before I go back to uni. Chink, I want you there more than life itself. If you don't come I'll come to Croydon and pick you up (maybe we could go to Ikea down Purley way?)
-
Say for example somebody (let's call him Stephen) rounded the allen key bolt on his skewer and couldn't get it out. How f**ked would he be? I'm sure I can get hold of a new skewer easily enough, but how much effort is it to get the old one out? As for the video I'm making, it's only Tim, Chai, Jimbo, Matt and myself, although I may be tempted to film Simon or Woody if I see them. I'm not discriminating against riders who aren't as good as others, as I have footage of Danny Butler and Matt Berridge in London, but I prefer to keep it to those who I ride with the most. Stephen.

It's been a while since I rode London. We're talking maybe 3 months, nothing major, but I fancy some London fun. Me and Tim will be at the Shell Centre at 11am, you know the drill, everybody's welcome blah de blah. I'm looking to ride the usual places and maybe Westminster and the Euston area which we rarely venture to. In fact, I'm filming for a video, so am looking to point my camera in the direction of some rarely seen locations. That being said who knows where we'll end up and likewise, who knows why I'm still talking. Who's coming along? See you there, Stephen.

Janson... Poole on Wednesday 13th or Thursday 14th? Let me know, but I'm free and easy then.

I've been wanting to learn to play Poker for ages, the problem is nobody I know, knows how to play it. I've searched online for instructions but its very confusing. Can anybody recommend any tutorials/explain the rules?

Hello everybody, It's my father-in-law's birthday soon, and my girlfriend's family are hoping to get him a fairly decent, yet simple to use, point and click digital camera. My knowledge of cameras is very basic, and my girlfriend's family know even less. With a budget of £100 - £200, they're looking for a camera with a big enough LCD screen so that the withering eyes of the older gentleman can still see what's going on. They're also hoping for a picture quality of at least 3 mega pixels, it must be easy to use and have a memory stick/card or space for one. If it doesn't come with a memory card, then the budget of £200 would need to include one, but I'm presuming they do all come with one. The camera doesn't need to have any video capabilities since he already has a mini dv camcorder. Any help, links, recommendations and suggestions are welcome. Thanks, Stephen.

Poole Or Bournemouth This Evening...
Stephen Morris replied to Stephen Morris's topic in Member Organised Rides
Can you PM me with either yours or Nicks mobile number. Otherwise, I'll be at Sandbanks (rocks near crazy golf course) at 9pm. See you then, Stephen. -
Does anybody fancy riding Poole, Bournemouth or somewhere inbetween later on? I'm free from 6pm until late as my girlfriend's at work (and I'm at her house). I know it's short notice, but it's good to be spontaneous. Let me know, Stephen.

Hey Andy, £10 doesn't seem like too much to me, although the idea of you paying for trophies seems a little silly, take it out of the entry fee and there'll still be a decent amount for the DJ memorial fund - after all this is technically a competition and not a fundraiser. The Red and Blue route concept seems fine, but you'll have to have a good think about how difficult you make each section, considering what standard of riders are coming and what they'll be expecting. The last thing you want is loads of riders finishing on 0 dabs. Either three laps of 7/8 sections or two laps of 10 would be fine, Essex usually go for three laps of 8. Sounds like it will be a really good competition, and if you want (let me know now so I can book holiday) I can help you with preparation on the Saturday and Sunday morning. Stephen.

I'll be there, I think I've persuaded Jake to come out too after work. I still need a new back brake, but I've got 32" sidehopping in my sights! See you all there, around 11am at the Shell Centre. Bring water and suntan lotion, because it may be fairly hot, who knows, I haven't checked the weather yet. Stephen

I used to live near Kingston, so I ride there when I'm seeing mates in the local area. It's pretty good for riding, there's plenty to do, but central London's better (30 minutes on the train). See you around, come October time.
-
Not a new idea, but the problem that hit us was just how safe would parts of London be at 2am in the morning... Would love to meet at the Shell Centre at 12pm and ride until midday the next day. I'll consider it more in the summer.

Getting Tickets: Walk into the train station and there'll be what's obviously a ticket office conisisting of anything between 1 and 10 windows in the wall with people sat behind them. Queue up, they should all be able to help you. In Milton Keynes station, the ticket office is on the left. If you're after a return from Milton Keynes to London Euston for example, then ask for a return to London Euston. Be warned, tickets will cost more during peak time, which is before 9.30am on weekdays, after 9.30am and on weekends, you'll be able to buy the cheapest tickets. There may be a ticket machine, but it's probably best that a first time train traveller gets his ticket from the ticket office. Make sure you plan your journey the first time you make it. You need to know what ticket you are buying, how much it costs etc. National Rail Enquiries is on 08457 48 49 50 and the website is http://www.national-rail.co.uk. Under 16's pay a child fare, if you're 16 and over then you need to pay and adult fare. You can however buy a "Young Person's Railcard" which costs £18 but gets you 1/3 off the adult ticket price. If you use the train a lot then it could pay for itself in a few trips. Where's My Train: What you need to do is find your train, get to the platform and get on it. Small train stations will have between 2 and 4 platforms and maybe only 1 train company running trains there. Milton Keynes will have about 6 platforms, but Waterloo has 19 so you've got it pretty easy. If you're using a small station, then there'll be signs saying "platform 1 - to London" or "Platform 2 - to Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool" etc. But at a larger station then there'll most likely be a a big screen up on a wall somewhere. At Milton Keynes this screen is opposite the entrance. The screen will have all the details of the next trains: what train company the train is (Virgin and Silverlink in your case), where the train goes to, what stations it stops at on the way, what platform the train will be arriving on and when it's due to arrive. If you're travelling from Milton Keynes then you'll be on a Silverlink or Virgin train. Virgin trains are more expensive, so I wouldn't bother with them. They may ask you at the ticket office "Virgin or Silverlink" - say Silverlink, much cheaper. If they don't mention anything then they've automatically booked you on the cheapest train. So we've determined that you need a silverlink train, look at the board until you find the first silverlink train that goes where you're going. What time does it come, and what platform will it be on? Once you've found that out, follow signs to your platform (at Milton Keynes the platforms are behind the big screen) and go through the ticket barriers (if there are any). Put your ticket face up, through the barriers with the green arrow, not the red cross, that's for people going the opposite direction. Once you're through follow signs to the platform you need to be on. I'm on my platform, what now? When you're on the platform make sure you're on the right platform by looking down the concourse for a big white box usually that says "platform 4" or whatever. Now, listen out for tannoy announcements, and there'll usually be monitors or another screen which will tell you of the next train that's coming and when it will be there. So don't presume your train will be the next one because it might not be. When your train arrives jump on and hey presto, you're on a train. If you're taking your bike, Silverlink trains have a place for them which is on the southern most carriage. There are 2 longer than normal seats which fold up leaving you with a space for your bike. You can just leave them by the door as well, but you'll have to make sure it's not the door that opens, and on some routes you may have to get up and move the bike to the other door. Once you've arrived at your destination, follow signs to the exit, or if you're getting another train, then you'll need to find the correct platform again (you may already be on it.) There may be ticket barriers again, but these pose no threat to you now. If you have your bike by the way, you should show the ticket to the guy on the ticket barriers and go through the luggage gate. If there's nobody there, then roll the bike though on the back wheel. Advice: That's about it, it's not difficult and we all have to get a train for the first time at some stage. There are people floating about all over the place at train stations whether they be employees or just members of the public. But if you don't know which train is yours, then ask somebody to show you the way. If you're on the platform and you want to know if that's your train, then just ask somebody "does this train stop at twatford" and if they don't know, somebody else will usually speak up and tell you. Hope that helps, trains are easy. If you need help with the tube, then let me know, because that's a little different. Stephen Morris.

We've had upwards of 80 people for London rides in the past, so when people say they want a very big ride, then that's what we think of. If you only want to ride with 10 people then I'm sure you can arrange that. As for Matt, he's a cock, but he's not arrogant. I wish people would take things with a pinch of salt. Nothing me or Matt have said in this topic was intended to be offensive, just relatively helpful and in Matt's case, a little bit silly.

Seems to me that down south we have London and Bristol as the best places to ride, with Poole, Southampton, Ipswich and Portsmouth all being ok. From what I'e heard, up north there are more places that are very good to ride. However, I've never been further north than Leicester (and never will) so I have no way of proving my theory. Oh yeah one last thing, riders from the north seem to be better, not sure why.
