Taped, joined, filled and sanded painted and made a mess Sanded the floor, didn’t do a great job but I only had a day this time instead of a weekend. It’ll do was the attitude by the end. Finished the floor. Ended up using a polyurethane. Bona mega varnish because, well, lols Added my speakers (forgot the wiring when I did the walls so I have posts on the skirting…) finished the skirting and doorframe got some serious Lego in got a desk and a new sofa bed in. have been really enjoining using it. So much fitting out required. I’d like to build a nice desk at some point but this will do for now. Now I need to sort some sort of extended canopy for shade and some blinds. AC hopefully going in in a couple of weeks. Griff is starting school and the drawn out period of one day on and one day off, combined with other stuff has been quite stressful so it’s really nice to retreat out there for a chill out. Edit: the editor has gone mad and I can’t remove these extra photos.
  2. Shit the bed - I had no idea this was happening. I’ve not paid much attention to the news for some time (biggest lasting COVID life change) but as it turns out Bulb could go down the pan too! We’ve been with them for ages and they are a pretty big supplier.

    Covid19

so I would say as you mentioned - the chances of going 10years with abnormal rhythm and no side effects would be small so I would expect that people who have that side effect would be included in the statistical analysis? same with blood clotting, I can’t imagine that the chances of getting a blood clot AND it being lodged somewhere with no side effects and then turning into a fatal hit are particularly high. but yes I would class both those as short term effects as they happen immediately and 99.9999999999999999etc of the general cases where those side effects happen will likely be recorded as part of the statistics. the only other thing I would say is there is a bit of confirmation bias going on here probably (on both sides). My experience is entirely different with vaccination. For a start I only know a handful of people who actually got COVID (officially) and none who had any kind of bad experience with it. And again I know no one who has had anything other than a sore arm and a mild fever with the vaccination. If it were different and I had an experience like yours I’d like to think I’d still have it but I might not. The beauty of stats from such a big data set is that the overall stats will be pretty accurate but an individual may be lucky or unlucky with what they see?

yes - but those issues appeared in the short term. all the damage was done by someone taking the drug in the very early stages of pregnancy. Tests on pregnancy were never carried out and it was just assumed there was no issue as it was deemed a harmless drug for humans. I would class thalidomide as having short term appearing effects that lasted a long time. its a special case as those short term effects were unable to be seen for 9 months... Im not saying pfizer or others can't do severe damage very quickly, Im saying we absolutely know what the risks of that damage are now, and its not going to turn out that people start dropping dead in 10 years time from a long term unknown side effect.

Pfizer has been administered nearly 6 Billion times. That is a huge data set to determine side effect percentages pretty darn accurately. all the talk of long term data is a non starter - there aren’t long term effects for vaccines. They don’t stay in your body long enough. You can have side effects that appear in the short term, that may have long term effects on life, but they aren’t going to give you cancer 10 years from now. They pass completely out of your system in weeks, and you are left with entirely natural immune response. Because of this and the number of hits we have given out, the risks of taking this vaccine is known to a pretty high degree of accuracy. The risk of taking the vaccine is significantly lower than that of getting covid19 the old fashioned way. (Again - huge number of data points for this too) Anyone can choose not to take the vaccine, and that’s their call, especially if they are in low risk groups. But that’s still a roll that’s unnecessary, and does nothing to decrease transmission. I still think taking a prescription drug without proper medical advice (a prescription), to combat something that has a proven pretty effective vaccine, when there are no published studies that have shown that it’s actually effective, is basically bordering on conspiracy theory action.
  7. Looks like 2 full hours of (full) sunlight for a 500+ Wh battery then?
  8. Im not against them, I just don't get them. They weigh a tonne and feel a bit silly to ride to me. I enjoy riding up hill, and the heft makes it less enjoyable going downhill for me too. Gimme a lightweight hardtail any day.
  9. better still - the uk gets with the times and converts to km, which makes the E-bike limit make more sense...

It’s a done deal. Russell deserves a decent drive. Would be funny if merc are nowhere next year after all this though

Sorry but comparing ivermectin to paracetamol is ridiculous.

this doesn’t add up for me so I’d ask, what basis anyone is suggesting you don’t take it? If there are some stats that can show that you are more at risk from taking it than not I’d like to see it. The evidence for taking it are hundreds of millions of data points, and taking the advice of a single (or a few) scientist seems to me a bit of a feeling decision, unless there is some pretty hard evidence to back up any claim? What long term data are you looking for that’s missing? it’s a two shot deal which will be out of your system quickly, most side effects will show in a person within 2 months and these vaccines have been in testing and use for more than a year? yes some of the vaccines have serious side effects, but so does ivermectin, including severe allergic reactions coma and death, which are going to be higher risk if you are going to take it as unprescribed (possibly). Saying the drugs effectiveness is being suppressed is to me falling into conspiracy theory. Yes it has been shown to be effective when directly used on cells but as far as I can tell no published study currently has shown it to be significantly effective enough to use it as treatment. There was a trial that showed remarkable results in patients, but it has been withdrawn pending investigation for fraud I think? There is a new trial going on at the moment, but until there is proper data, taking a different drug that has its own serious side effects that has no proof of effectiveness instead of one that does and is being given free, seems madness to me.

There is a huuuuuuuge amount of data now available for these vaccines. If someone can show me any cold hard statistics that show me that I am safer not taking the vaccine, then I won’t take the second dose. Ali, your position seems to be based significantly more on feeling than fact (not a dis), which is all fine - it’s a choice and you are in a group that is very unlikely to be affected by the actual disease. where you lose me totally is on ivermectin. It’s benefits are not proven in trials (although proper trials are taking place) and self medicating with a drug usually prescribed that can have serious side effects on its own seems insane to me. edit: probably don’t mean fact. Science maybe - it’s sounds harsh either way but isn’t meant to

Not sure you can choose as an under 40 ? Think it’s pfizer or nothing
  17. Cars are a mindf**k for me it seems. I’m crap at decisions, and spending money. Luke your car sounds perfect (apart from diesel) but my brain is shouting at me - only a year newer than your current car and that’s totally fooked might just go impulsive and spend a rediculous amount on something silly that I just like my budget currently falls into civic tourer approved used territory, which ticks a lot of boxes, but seems a waste. I can think of so much more fun things to spend money on than a car… thnx everyone for advice and suggestions! It’s all helping.
  18. Non turbo petrol is hard to find without going back a long way it seems! (I agree about best for reliability) so the civic is 07 and 215k. I’ve owned it nearly 3 years and done 12k. Brakes are knackered, clutch is proper knackered, but worst of all the ac has died. I’ve basically owned bangers forever, and now with a family and so little time of my own anyway, I just need something that works and is comfortable and doesn’t have bits falling off! Oh and fits all the bikes in/on I guess I need to find the sweet spot of new enough to not have age related issues, old enough not to waste money on year, and low enough miles to not fall foul of planned part failures. I guess if I ran this car for 10y I’d only add 40k miles! Newer civic estates are looking a decent option at the mo.

    Covid19

so some people who’ve had two jabs will still get seriously ill. And more who’ve had one, and lots more who haven’t had any. The shear numbers of people we are allowing to be infected at the moment are making the numbers rise sharply. There are still millions of people who haven’t had a jab at all. In the grand scheme it’s a small percentage dying or seriously ill for a long time but not sure that makes it ok. On the plus side on the projection the numbers tail off rapidly after the large peak.

I find Worldometer and the projections pretty good for bare stats and info worrying projection - more beds in icu will be needed for this wave…
  21. Given this (which I agree with) would you buy say a 66 plate with 100k on the clock or a 61 plate with say 60k on the clock?

Get ready for lockdown 4.0 (or whatever we are up to) everyone … cases here are going bananas and hospital admissions are doubling week on week. it’s depressing watching the same shitshow over and over again.
