  1. Yeah I was getting that issue with the blade rubbing against my finger when on the rear wheel, brake felt a bit soft & squidgy not what I expected. Turns out I had been far too conservative adjusting the reach when I initially set them up. Problem solved and fingers didn't have any problems reaching either.
  2. Just went out for a half hour with them. Massive difference especially on the front. Didn't feel doing my usual last minute braking at the bottom of the gaps down between the cliffs was a good idea. And usually everybody turns to see what the massive honking noise was, but these were silent. Did initially notice a big improvement on the rear, but maybe I just adjusted to it far easier, or the existing stock front brakes (+1yr old, ~50 rides, ~36hrs) were contaminated or something - they looked good as new too.
  3. Will give them a go in a few days when I next go out.
  4. Sorry can't help as the pair of EBC Red I have are waiting in my spares box to fit to my Zees on my Inspired Console. Currently running stock pads that came with the brakes.
  5. Think I'm almost starting to look like a trials rider. Feel like my ability to hop up stuff is lagging far behind however. Need to work on that preload and a thousand and one other techniques. Happy with the hops down the big steps though. EDIT: re-uploaded without music as thought it might be a bit much for some people.
  6. Followed by lots of second hand bikes going cheap on ebay!
  7. From a quick scan on CRC, main difference is drivetrain - 2x9 or 1x10. I'd go for a 1x drivetrain these days, and if you want to upgrade to 1x11 or 1x12 in future you might be able to use the existing crankset. The Deore rear derailleur is supposed to be better than the Altus, haven't used the Altus, but have recent 9 speed Deore derailleur on commuter and it's fine. The bottom bracket spec looks wrong on the VRS, says it's square taper, but crankset looks like hollowtech II. Both soldout on CRC! Calibre are another brand which get some good reviews for budget bikes - usually for the Bossnut, but they do hardtails too.
  8. And in stark contrast to location and skills
  9. Think last year was his final year riding the Youth category. Such an amazing place to ride as well.
  10. If they've got that far... But then we're going back to comfort... And being rigid on the bike. Depends on the age/size of balls I guess. Being older I need to avoid injury as much as possible, so tend to stick to pushing little bits on what I can do rather than starting afresh on what I can't. Which takes me back to fear and comfort again. Yeah... I'm definitely still a beginner. I have been questioning recently if I'll ever make it past beginner. I can't physically practice everyday even if I did have time.
  11. I asked about bashring replacement for these earlier this year. The Lifeline X-tools BB 8 prong tool is a bit cheaper than the Park Tools one & does the job. Presume they're both the same? Can't tell as product listings provide different measurements and compatible products
  12. I like the name of the "Neon Because 24'' Street Trials Danny MacAskill Bike Inspired Bicycle" on jumpbikes.cn
  13. Maybe there could be a "The Disappointed and Irritated with Myself Thread".. I just don't want to be the one to start it! [deleted the rest of my post because there's not enough posting on here for it to rapidly disappear]
  14. Our 1st boy is at the stage of trying to transition from his balance bike to his "big boy bike". One day it will have pedals and stabilizers, another day it won't. He's not keen on pedalling yet, but we keep chipping away at it!

    TRA noEscape

I was watching a few of the older videos a while back and James Porter stood out but I couldn't find anything more recent than 5 or 6 years ago. Curious about why a rider that good stopped? Too many Injuries?
  16. I can make videos 2:35 long and I'm crap, if I were as good as you they'd last 2 days
  17. You don't give us much time to watch your videos! I've got a new one... of Tuesday, but I won't bore you with it, another bunch of clips of me attempting to do basic stuff and messing it up!

    Covid19

We're lucky in the UK in that we're still allowed out to exercise. It's really opened my eyes as to what exercise can be, some people are working hard to stretch the definition to include drinking beer, smoking illegal substances, sitting down, walking really slowly and staring at your mobile phone I would have been out cycling more the past week or so but slightly injured my lower back doing this part of this warm up routine which makes rear hops etc rather painful!
  19. As a relative newcomer, I always thought it looked "cool" when a riders front wheel is in the air and it's just happily spinning round while they do their manual or gaps or whatever. In my mind it seemed to embody a more confident attitude - not death gripping both brakes for dear life.

    Chairs.

Would have thought chairs too personal for seeking recommendations for! Or I'm just weird! I can't stand chairs that wrap round me and are all soft and squishy, far too hot and encourage me to slump far too much. I have one of those Ikea Flintan at work, without the arm rests. I either slump right back for a short while (in which case I appreciate the mesh back preventing my back getting sweaty) or otherwise just perch on it with something approximating good posture with my back away from the rear of chair.
  21. From earlier in week. Was supposed to be a tour of the street/trials riding spots near me but classic action cam footage pointing at floor. Scraped this together. My basic riding. Weird electronic soundtrack. Passed some time.
  22. OTOH, if I'm attempting to get up something I like to know I won't have a problem getting off it. Thanks for posting :-)
  23. Would you say there's any prerequisites for success with this? For example perhaps I should be able to rear-hop up the same height already? I can barely rear-hop onto a foot high ledge. I'm trying not to come across as all whingey about how hard it all is... Think this is one of those moves I want to be able to do, but not quite ready to put all the hard work into learning it just yet! Took at least six months before I put any commitment into learning to rear wheel hop, and a year later, well, I can do it, but not any height to be able to hop up stuff yet, nor distance either, my control/balance/stability needs more work. So lots of skinnies - along the tops of walls, width varying from 30cm down to 10cm. Trackstand no brakes front wheel pressed to wall at 90-dgrees. Rear-hops off things - working toward less width more height, two ways - for less width find less height, and for more height find more width, to limit risk to one dimension. Probably ~30cm width is narrowest and 45cm highest.
  24. I'm mid 40's and will be really chuffed if I get as good you were in 2003 (can't see it happening this year :-( ). Good clips.
