  1. Pretty short. And painful, for her. I think that's par for the course.
  2. More external drive partitioning questions (carrying on from before). I want a drive with the following: 10GB Leopard install at the start of the drive 100Gb Time Machine volume 140Gb 'Stuff' volume to be accessible from both Mac and PC (I.e. formatted as FAT32) At the moment, it's formatted with the 'Apple Partition Map' and I've created the first two partitions fine, formatted as Mac OS X Extended. Disk Utility won't let me change this, and it also won't allow me to create a FAT32 partition on the drive. Windows doesn't recognise any volumes - only 250Gb of 'unknown' space, so I don't want to format the drive with Windows otherwise it'll presumably wipe the whole lot. Is there any way of filling the remaining space with a FAT32 partition? Is the Apple Partition Map the same thing as a Windows MBR? Can Time Machine run on a FAT32 partition?

    Yeah it's £50 before it's free
  5. You can mix them, I've done it on my Formula discs. Jut don't use dot5.0.

    Paypal

And if you want to transfer your money to a bank so you can spend it, expect to pay another 50p. I hate Paypal. I still use it though

    Spoke Key..?

That's the one. I'd still go for the Park one, but I don't know what the difference in price is. The Parks ones are really expensive. I bought a multi-size (4 in 1) key from Edinburgh Bike (own brand) for a fiver. It's really good actually - small for taking out and quite comfortable. There are loads of choices though - if you can, have a feel to see what they're like before you buy them. If you're building hundreds of wheels, get a good Park one that will last. But for most of us it's only the comfort that's important

    Spoke Key..?

Those bright plastic disc ones are good (don't know the name). Well, they're comfortable, I don't know how long they'll last but I don't build 600 wheels The park rubber ones (get the green one) are good but the triangle ones are horrible.

Daft question but it wasn't flashing for a car going in the other direction was it?
  11. Presumably though the only movie servers are in the US at the moment, so even if you could technically get it to work, it'd still be really slow?
  12. Calm down everyone. People are allowed to like different things
  13. Rules are rules, and they're there for a reason. Just get validated and then you can sell all you like.
  14. Thanks for that, sapu. 5% is still more than I'd imagined so maybe it will make a slight difference to the price of raw materials.

    School Exclusion

I used to get into trouble all the time at school. Nothing particularly bad though. My main problem was being unable to keep a straight face in front of teachers when something funny happened. So I'd be pissing myself at one of the teacher's bad breath when I was getting told off or something. Got a lot of little detentions for that. Once when I was in year 7, someone threw a rock at me and it hit me on my eyebrow (a bit too close to my eye really) and I was bleeding everywhere. I didn't see who did it. Anyway, I got sent to the headmaster's office and bollocked for refusing to grass up the person who did it. Got sent home for 2 days for that Then I went to a different school where there were some people who boarded (I didn't though). The best story I heard was one of my mates throwing a can of shaving foam into someone's room through the window and shooting it with a BB gun. Apparently it makes quite a mess... In terms of computers, when I started at school it was Windows 3.11. The games had all been deleted from the computers, but I used the 'undelete' program and got them all back on loads of the computers. And in my primary school the bus crashed about 20 minutes after I'd got off and a couple of people got brain damage. One was in a wheelchair for several years and although she can walk now, she can't talk properly. Bad times.
  16. No, I never use it. Plus NTL doesn't even have a correct address for me... I saw some ISP that were warning people through their browser window. They put a bar at the top of the web page with a message. Quite clever.
  17. Just create another with a bigger capacity and then clone the first one onto the new one. All in disk utility.
  18. A proxy is on the 'other' side of your ISP though. So it'll hide your IP address from certain websites/servers, but it won't stop your ISP knowing what you're doing. It's like this: Computer - ISP - Rest of the internet Computer - ISP - Proxy - rest of the internet. The way to get around it is to use encrypted traffic. That way, the ISP has no idea what is being sent. If you are using torrents/limewire, your ISP might have a good idea what you're doing (since torrent traffic uses specific ports and connects to (sometimes) hundreds of other users) but they wouldn't be able to prove it. At the moment, encrypted traffic isn't really widely used and only certain torrent clients support it. So you might get slower speeds. But if this system comes in, more people will use encryption I'd imagine. The problem is that the ISPs have no problem with you copying what you like. So there is no incentive for them to change their ways unless forced by the government etc. But even if it is introduced, it sounds like a lot of work for the ISPs so they probably won't bother.
  19. XTR are pimp, and it's personal preference but I much prefer them over Avid levers (Avid levers aren't as rounded and nice). To be honest though, it terms of power, anything for a Deore/SD7 upwards will be about the same.

lol @ people stealing test tube clamps and the like. Do you use them or did you simply sell them on for huge profit? No, of course you didn't. Most pointless theft ever. Saying that, I was a wanker at school too. One day I just wanted to piss the chemistry teacher so I broke as much glassware as I could - passing it off as an accident.
  21. If you're a student then Applecare is a bargainous £60 for 3 years - amazing value. The black macbook is pretty expensive and you don't get very much for your money. I'd definitely try and stretch to the MBP if you can. Remember that changing memory is something you can easily do yourself, and it'll work out a lot cheaper. Also if you do get the plain Macbook, upgrading the hard drive is dead easy too (and, more importantly, doesn't invalidate warranty) - so there's no point in paying through the nose for the extras through the Apple website. In fact I think I might have to buy another laptop on the cheap before I leave uni
  22. The only way a trials bike will last forever is if you never ride it... I don't know the relative cost of magnesium vs aluminium BUT I do know that very little magnesium will be used - it's still an aluminium frame, there just happens to be a trace of magnesium in it. Also, since frames from the far easy only cost £30 ish a piece to make, the difference in cost between manufacturing an alu frame and a mag one doesn't necessarily have to make a big difference to the price you see in the shops.

    Ben Savage

Ooooooh, so that's why Rowan doesn't need a Pyaw any more. Does this mean that he's no longer on the Tarty bikes team? Anyway, nice one Rowan, and I look forward to seeing what Ashton/DBR can make. Probably a shite catalogue trials bike for chavs with the team riding either an Ashton or a Koxx - rebadged, naturally.
