  1. I want to stick a film I've got onto a DVD so I can watch it in the DVD player downstairs. It's just a bog standard DVD player (no DivX or anything clever like that) so I need to do some conversion. I believe I need to convert to MPEG2 - Which I can do using my favourite program (Super) so that's not a problem. It's after that - getting it onto a DVD that will play in a normal DVD player. I need some sort of DVD authoring program? Does anyone know what I need to do? (Preferably using freeware). EDIT: This is using my mum's computer which has an OEM version of Nero that doesn't even do DVD video discs, so I think I would need some burning software too.

    Which Xc Bike?

They do have twin crown forks, yes, but that doesn't make them a DH bike. They're Specialized own-brand forks and they've always been like that. It's not a downhill bike, it's pretty much exactly the same thing as my Commençal - kind of hardcore XC or 'All-Mountain' if you use buzzwords. The clue's in the name - 'Enduro' I.e. a bike you can ride all day.
  3. I won't agree with that, no way. I have never seen any £300 PC laptop that is any good. They are ALL huge, chunky, noisy with poor keyboards and screen. Macs are pretty competitive price-wise these days, the £699 Macbook is decent for the money (I think it's about £619 with the discount btw). You have to remember that you are paying a bit extra for a 'premium' product - like buying an IBM Thinkpad or a Sony laptop. I've just compared the Macbook to a £700 Dell laptop (N.B. not a £619 Dell ) and there's really not that much in it. The Dell gets you a bit more hard drive space and some more RAM, but nothing more than that really. CPU is the same. Oh, and the Dell is about 500g heavier and a lot fatter. Dave, Photoshop on Mac is different so you'd need to buy the 'mac' version - or download the free trial from adobe.com if they're still doing that. But for Photos I'm not really convinced Macs are loads better. In fact, if I was ONLY doing photo work, I'd definitely spend the money on a fast (desktop) PC with a nice monitor. It'll be faster (desktops just naturally are), cheaper, and you can get a better monitor, plus much easier to upgrade storage etc. Photoshop is basically identical now between PC and Mac, there's nothing to choose between them.
  4. There was a free instructional DVD with MBUK a few months back, he presented a few of the sections. I laughed at his matching yellow jersey + glove combination. Then he rode through some puddles and up a slight incline. Whoa.
  5. Looks nice Ali! Should be sweet. How much is insurance and tax and all the other stuff? MPG?
  6. You can certainly get viruses that infect the MBR of your hard drive - which doesn't get wiped with a format. Never heard of one on the motherboard, but google suggests there may be one that could affect the CMOS. Which is a b*****d.
  7. That was well good. I thought Kenny showed him up proper though. Bike = win. Having said that, motorbike trials has improved loads in the last few years, with their back hops and even bunny hops over a line of people .
  8. I concur. Muel - shush. Letting your tyres down loads helps for boons.
  9. If it's a totally sealed floor (I.e. no cracks/gaps in the floorboards) then spilling coke won't be that much of a problem. You can just throw some water down and it will mop up really easily. On the other hand I'm not sure it will help the grip though.

    Which Xc Bike?

You're lying. Or thinking of something else. Or something. Enduros aren't DH bikes and the Pitch is just a cheaper version basically. Same amount of travel, virtually identical geometry but cheaper frame (less hydroforming I think) and components. They look really nice though, especially the expensive one.
  11. I wonder what the risks are of the virus infecting external hard drives. In the past (like, 10 years ago) viruses used to be able to infect all your disks if you used them in the computer (we had a virus like that) - so anything you backed up would re-introduce the virus on your clean install if you weren't careful. Does anyone actually know what the risk of that happening is?
  12. He's done alright for himself though, hasn't he? I mean, in ten years he's gone from MBUK to Top Gear (which I imagine is a pretty good job) via editing Metal Hammer. But with the Doddy thing - I thought Doddy was pretty much the same character as Jamie anyway. Maybe just now we've all outgrown him?
  13. I can't do it unless he posts something in NMC. Tom/Danny probably can though. He was a legend when I used to read MBUK. Saw him at the bike show once - he was smaller than my 13 year old self
  14. Yeah but everyone *should* know that Christmas represents the day Jesus was born - this is common knowledge, surely? Whether he was technically born on that exact day over 2000 years ago (which no one knows anyway) is not really relevant.
  15. Why?! Is that just Maxxis/Kenda or is it other brands too?
  16. Riding trials on that is probably really hard, so well done I guess. Looks pretty tame though Did you read the thread?
  17. I deleted 6 posts between yours and Wayne's, so that's where the 'negativity' was that Wayne was talking about. Nothing to do with you
  18. It's the wheelbase and length that is also as important though (found that out the hard way ). The Transporters are quite a bit smaller than Transits/LDVs etc - which is probably a good thing. I really want one of the ex-AA VW Transporters. Unless you get a 3rd-hand one, they're probably out of your price range though - they normally go for around £5k+. But they are ideal - fairly new and well-maintained, reasonably-priced and a nice shape. 6 seats with 2 panels of windows, so it's a road-trip machine. Dunno about sleeping IN it though (that applies to any van IMO). But perfect for taking people/bikes places.
  19. Yeah but like you say, Ashtons are still a much more modern frame than Zebdis. I loved my Zebdi when I had it but I rode one recently and, well, it wasn't that great. You'll definitely notice the difference going to something more modern. One option is to sell the Zebdi as a whole bike for £200 ish (obviously depending on spec) and use the extra £300 so you'll have £500 ish for a second hand bike. Seems like a good idea to me?
  20. Yes. I've just deleted a load of crap from this thread, please don't mess it up again guys.
  21. Before writing up, I suggest you learn the difference between effect and affect

    Which Xc Bike?

The Commencal 5.5 is definitely more of an all mountain bike that XC, if we're putting labels on it. The Meta 4 is the XC full susser, and the 5.5 is more set up for bigger hits (slacker angles, more travel, heavier bits). But yeah, fair enough. Fox do make nice forks. The RRP is totally inflated though, which makes you think that you're getting a bargain when you get them on a bike - but it's not really the case. I've heard nothing good about Manitou but they're probably OK in reality. But in terms of reputation, Fox have probably the best.
  23. I presume you mean the airport basestation? in which case that will have several ethernet ports on the back - just run a cable from the 360 to that.
