  1. You thought Paul's subtle white led bulbs were "awful", yet you want to ruin a perfectly good looking mk2 golf by painting it in a colour scheme it never came in. ...I think its your taste that wants looking at, not anybody else's
  2. ...I'm guessing vtec kicked in (yo!) I jest. Looks painful dude, hope everybody involved is ok. Looks like its slid on its side/roof? At least its "only a piece of metal" (as annoying as it is to hear that when you spent a lot of time/money/effort on such a nice car)
  3. Galant is the saloon...Legnum is the estate. A friend of mine has a Legnum VR4, and its awesome. 2.5l twin turbo 4WD with 280bhp. SO much grip its unreal, and goes surprisingly well for its weight!
  4. It won't align if its running...it HAS to be just ignition on.
  5. Robin - sounds like you need to do a throttle body alignment. Did you manage to get the OBD port wires up? If not, turn the ignition on, and leave it on (without cranking), and wait for the faint whining noise from the throttle body to stop. Its not perfect doing it this way, but seeing as your's is "dumb" compared to newer engines (BAM, AMK, AUM etc), it might be enough without needing vagcom. You'll probably find you get a bit more power too; the battery died on my LCR, and before doing the TBA, it was totally flat to drive, really surprising what a difference it makes! Revolver - like I said..."most", not all I presume its a safety feature. EDIT: Nick beat me to it
  6. There isn't really a "high mileage" limit. 100k is just bedded in really. As long as they have been serviced correctly (NOT longlife...avoid them ones!), and the correct oil used, and cambelt done every 60k, they are sweet for a LONG time! Turbo wise, could be anything really, depends how its driven, and if its been warmed up/cooled down correctly. At a guess, I'd say 150k was a good life. Alex - yeah it is. Most drive-by-wire engines have a bit of a spaz fit if you try and left foot brake!
  7. Are you braking while you're doing this? A lot of modern cars won't let you brake and accelerate at the same time. Plus...rev matching a diesel is silly How can it possibly be dangerous?!
  8. Chasing numbers is not a cool thing to do, you just end up being a douche in the pub bragging that your car has x amount of horse power. As you WELL no, that's not the be all and end all! I've got no problem with you cleaning it and fiddling and shit, hell, I'm usually doing something with mine at least once a weekend! Its just the hundred million pictures of exactly the same thing that gets a tad tedious, lol!
  9. Just drive it you f**king fag.
  10. Apparently you have to use butyl, silicone doesnt work for some reason.
  11. I guy I know has just offered to buy the spare wheel from my LCR for £80. Now, bearing in mind, I never use the spare (and I have an old 16" alloy from my a3 I could use instead if needs be), and I am SKINT...what should I do? I don't really intend to ever sell the car, I've spent too much on it (both financially, and time wise!), so dont consider the lack of a 5th alloy to be an issue. Should I do it?
  12. Its a Leon, it will be the door seals
  13. Yeah, to be fair Leons have become SO cheap recently, its easy to get a ko3s engined one for not a lot of money!
  14. If I had changed a turbo on my car, and some spotty prepubescent scrote tried telling me I didn't know my own car, just to knock a few quid off the price, I would punch them in the face...
  15. Doing the pump is exactly the procedure as doing the belt, just another 2 bolts to take the pump out, so labour should be the same. It is VERY bad practice to re-use a cambelt, for the sake of a few quid, its worth putting a fresh one on. If there's a hydraulic tensioner, that will need to be replaced too. The oil used is VERY important. If its crap oil, the chances are the pick up pipe will be clogged (especially at that mileage). New pipe, o-ring, and sump sealant is about £20. WELL worth doing...if it gets blocked, the oil pressure suffers, and the engine seizes. As Jardo said, VVT is more of an emmisions thing (unlike Jap stuff). Some tuners have made code to make use of it (VVT Attack I believe its called), but think that was only on AMK and BAM engines. Other than that, just check the usual 1.8t niggles (coolant temperature sensor/thermostat, MAF, sticky rear calipers, coilpacks etc).
  16. Look up "Evry mod". That is all the tuning boxes are. As Paul said, I had one on my Toledo. Made a fair amount of difference to power (although there was a big increase in smoke too). Other than that, I had no problems at all. I put a LOT more than 20k on it though, think it was probably nearer 40k, that thing took a bit of a beating going to Wales and back every other weekend. If you want some cheap dirty power, and aren't too bothered about the consequences, then go for it. Otherwise, a remap is a far better way to do it. (A remap will adjust boost to use ALL the extra fuel, rather than most of it coming through the exhaust as smoke!) I can't see how the box could drop a valve, especially on a diesel...but there was nothing else that could have caused it, it was well maintained and reguarly serviced.
  17. Yeah, I'd agree with all of that. I like doing things that not many people have done too (such as the widemouth grille, and projector lense retrofit). Everytime I look at my car (when its not covered in winter road shit, haha), I think "that looks f**king good...and I did it ALL myself", and that makes me warm and fuzzy inside. I have NEVER had a standard car. I hate blending into the crowd in "just a car". There's nothing I enjoy more than taking a standard car and putting my own personal touches to it. As Jardo said, there is (for me), no sense of pride when somebody else has done all the hard work.
  18. People either "get" modifying cars, or they don't. I find the first lot FAR more interesting to talk to...
  19. A lot of it comes down to money. Most people wouldn't have £10k to buy a "decent" car straight up, but would be able to put a bit aside each month to modify it, hence spending what seems like a large amount on mods...but that amount is spread out over a long period.
  20. Same thing has happened to me a few times. Bill should be £35, ends up being at least £45 for a few months. Very annoying, and like you say, you cam't find out where or why you went over.
  21. 390 per ton?!!!! Fuuuuuuuucccckkkk! ....please do Snetterton again soon!
  22. Aaaah! Lazy then P.S - Paul...you're a fanny. You know why
  23. I get that...but what is a dropper post actually used for? I had a quick google, but couldn't really understand what it did!
