It's Friday tomorrow. First time I've been excited by this since erm... school years. Can't wait for 5pm when I'll switch the phone off, unplug the internet cable and do f**k all till Wednesday. Yes yes yes!

Lovely that. Those frames rode soooo well. You need Middleburns on that bike

Yeah please do more! One thing I thought was missing in that video was a closer look at timing. I occasionally get moderately good at taps and have found the end result is all about when you stop pedaling, when you start extending upwards and when you hit the wall with the front wheel (in that order). What's your take on this?
-
It has to be applied with thinners because that will make it stick to the rim. Applying it like tar won't get good results as the rosin crumbles on contact with the rim and doesn't stick. If you can't get hold of some nitro, use acetone. Just as good. The bite on rosin is incredible and it retains a very responsive brake similar to that on a clean sharp grind.

Regarding power, me and my friend have found that Trialtech pads "add" another ~20mm to the disc size. MT5 on TT and 180mm disc performed roughly as it did on OEM pads and a 203. Back on topic, Magura advertise the MT7 as having a different lever ratio. The price for that is a bit cheeky though, some really advanced maths reveals that the value of that amazing lever is almost equivalent to an entire MT5 brake + MT5 lever.

Thank you Adam!

Is 2x strong enough for a 19" disc wheel? It's a Hashtagg rim and Echo TR disc hub, would be using DT Swiss spokes.
-
Ditto, my only guess would have been heat. The MT7 pads are indeed way easier to chage, I don't think you have to remove the wheel to pop them out.
-
Sorry to hijack the thread but does anyone know why the MT7 uses a different pad configuration to the MT5? The caliper is bang on identical.

This reminds me of the days my friend had a pair of glasses he used for watching really low resolution video. The specs were a grey sheet of metal with little holes in them. Dunno what they were actually meant for but it'd be cool to have them now.

Haha yeah, properly amusing rider. I think he's been off his bike for a few years hence the wobbliness Used to be rather good.
-
Never met him personally, opposite end of the country. I get what you mean by forced, perhaps it's him being bored with simple obstacles. He might be taking part in the European rounds of the Worlds this year. The boy is a boy Ross, do you mean the chap who's constalty falling over?

Fantastic rider on the silver 26" Echo, sort of oldschool compy style?
-
They're going to be way stronger than alu forks anyway so you shouldn't be worried. I'm fairly light and don't ride as much nowadays but the Carbons have so far lasted over 4 years while alu forks used to snap in half twice a year.

Is that really you in the first vids? I always imagined you were slightly fat, had a beard, glasses and ate lots of burgers. No idea where that came from. Instead you look a bit like Neil T on your bike. Anyway. Love the line in the first video. This is exactly what trials is lacking nowadays - fun. Wondering if you have any videos from Velotrial Club Zurich? They had some great videos on X-Lites and later the Echo Team.
-
Other things aside, we really need a Youku trials video thread. Youtube is banned in China so they use their own service. Their own content aside, a lot of european trials vids end up there for the Chinese riders to watch.
-
Amazing athletically but exactly why trials is so unappealing to the public. It's just a guy jumping really high who happens to have a bike attached to him. The bike needs to be rolling to justify the point of using it. Merely an observation.
-
Wouldn't they just be incredibly stiff and unpleasant to ride?
-
Do any of you trackday chaps use threshold braking?
-
Been dreaming about riding a few nights in a row so yesterday I went up into the attic and rode for the first time since breaking my wrist in August. Had an amazing time figuring out where I stand. Massively motivated to start moving again although trials will still have to wait a few months. It's strange how I'm sort of ok when on the rear wheel but getting up those 2 pallets at the beginning was quite painful on the wrist. Marked all the painful areas with a pen, hopefully the doctor will be able to tell me more. Still trying to avoid an MRI

Out of those frames I'd go with the Control too. It's just such a complete product with some very elegant solutions. You are definitely going to benefit from M6 brake mounts, integrated tensioners and a press fit BB a hell of a lot more than from some of the gimmicks other companies are now charging for. Also heard nothing but positive feedback from owners with stiffness being praised most of all.
-
Agreed. However, such an expensive brake should have a quality feel to it.
-
Not only the seals but pretty close. I've had a few successful claims with Magura DE for broken lever blades from trials use. Wasn't crash damage though. It's such a shame that the MT7 falls short of being an epic brake. Nothing which costs that much should have plastic in it, no matter how cool the material name. The price difference between MT5's and 7's is completely unjustified. It's pretty much the same brake but with different leverage?

Wheels are usually the easiest way to get the bike lighter. 220g per wheel should be noticeable. You might want to consider 1.8mm butted/plain spokes (DT Competition for instance) which will help save an extra 20-30g per wheel. Don't go for anything radical like 1.6mm or 1.5mm spokes as the wheel will lose a lot of stiffness.
