V brake adapters

Hello everyone.

This is aimed at everyone but maybe @Ali Cor @AdamR28will be more able to help.

I want to use Vees again as thy were arguably the best brakes I have used for trials. Everything is available on Tarty from Avid SD7 levers, Shimano arms, SP51 housing to cables. But I can't find pads or backings anywhere. But then again I can still make my own.

The biggest issue is you can't find adapters anywhere! So has anyone got an idea? Can we make our own or would they be too fragile because of the lack of heat treatment?

Any help is appreciated but I think I have to forget about Vees...

Thanks a lot!

I own a Crewkerz Cleep 2. I will try and post some photos of the brake area but it's definitely impossible for the carbon forks. What I thought was drilling a V-brake boss and inserting a non ended M5 bolt in it so you could screw it in the existing M5 Maggie thread on the frame. I don't know if I am clear enough...

You can just make your own dude, there isn’t anything too complicated and you can play with the design (at your own risk, of course). I’ve made quite a few adapters and they’ve all worked pretty well. I’m sure you’ll figure out the dims but one tip from me is make sure you use a pillar drill!

Are you based in the uk? I can post a piece of aluminium flat bar and bosses if that helps?

Cheers,

Nas

Wow that's awesome work. I live in France and don't have tools to make this kind of part right unfortunately.

Another vote for making your own, I made some with nothing more than a hacksaw, vice, drill and tap.

i tried a few designs and even 3D printed some other ideas until I found one that seemed to work really well.

The shape wasn’t ideal to machine though so Euan Beadon helped adjust the design slightly and then machined a batch for me (thanks Euan!), annoyingly even though everything worked well in the 3D print there were some clearance issues with the alloy ones, a spacer under the post would fix it but I haven’t gotten round to doing that yet.

Nice work Ali and Euan!

I face also the same problem, I cannot find any adapter and that is why I continue to ride with a cracked one.

I think the tangential force that the wheel applies was quite underestimated.

One thing I am not sure about is whether the distance between the screw holes of the Magura mount of the same seatstay (this word does not make sens on a comp bike 😂) is the same across different frame/brand.

I guess it should be, but the tolerance in MTB/trials are often quite bad. I never checked on my different bikes.

The adapters I have are compatible with different lengths between the screw holes. And it is also possible to adjust angle that the adapter does with the seatstay.

@Ali C a Levelboss and another Koxx frame (the streety one, right ?). Hope to see them soon in a vlog.

Do you think it it possible to get some adapters from Euan?

Well this is superb! I don't know anyone here that could machine anything like that. Could Euan make some more? I would pay for that!

It would need a slight revision before it’s ready to be used fully, I think I can’t get these to work but it wouldn’t be possible to sell them as-is

Well, that's alright as I have plenty of time. Please let me know if you or Euan are ready to sell some to me and others maybe? Thanks a lot!

I have a pair of echo adapters. You'll need V posts, but they should be available. Message me with your address and we can figure out shipping, I'm in the USA. Cheers

That's great from you but I am in no hurry. And I can't say Ali hasn't peaked my interest with what he has shown.

(The hack on the Jistsie is also quite nice, but I still prefer to avoid the problem - see Crewkerz 😂)

Go for it bro. I maybe can get a big brand to work on them... More on it later if that happens. Most probably in July!

The Heatsink ones were really the best as far as I know but I have doubts they could go on my carbon forks or on the brake mounts on the Cleep 2 brake area. I actually don't know if any can fit as this frame has a weird brake area compared to other frames.

I would also prefer having two pairs of the same adapters so I could go dual Vees on my bike.

I swear I had a look for some and I couldn't find any!

I'm finding that with ebay as well recently... Using Google returns results on ebay that I couldn't find using the search on actual ebay, weird!

That was kind on the idea I had. I wanted a V brake boss with an M5 bolt under it. But I forgot you need the holes for the spring to go into them. That could work I guess.

Yes / No.

Rare, they work, they are good, nothing else about and Steve might be back one day

Oh agreed they are clearly one of the best options out there. I guess it's shipping that makes them expensive to me. I sure hope Steve is back one day, he was a top guy.
