Building I.c.e In Your Bedroom

i was just wondering if anyone on here has done this. i want to start driving soon but can't afford a car at the moment. but my parents said they would buy me a cheapish car for my 19th birthday witch is mid september. sooo i thought with any other money i get (e.g:- from work and b'day) i could build up a ICE system in my room so if i don't pass my test first time i could enjoy the ICE in my room until i do pass my test. what do you think of this idea.

cheers

Does seem strange that people spend more money on a sound system for their car than they do on one for the home... but yeah, a mate of mine ran 2 12's, 2 8's and 4 6x9's off his home stereo. There were a couple of amps in there too, god knows how he wired it all up. Looked dodge to me. His parents weren't too pleased...

A mate built a stereo for us to take on holiday. It consisted of an MDF box with 2 6x9 speakers in the sides, a head unit sunk into the top with a radio ariel sticking out as a tail. He painted the whole thing to look like a cow - it was wicked :) He ran it off a 240V car battery charger - just taped the jumplead bits to the wires he'd set up for the stereo power. The thing used to get a bit hot but other than that it was mint (Y)

It seems like a lot of faff though - why not just wait til you've got the car then sort out the stereo?

I have been thinking that while taking the plunge into car audio but the way I see it is at home playing music can annoy the family/neighbours etc... however if I am in my car there is not one else to annoy and I can listen to what I like.

The only time I really listen to music anymore is while in my car so to me having something more than the standard car stereo is nice...

had 2 10" subs under my bed for a while running off an old home amp, had to put lowpass filters in though so they worked kinda like an active sub and filtered only the bass... was stupid.

Was running those with 2 sets of B&W speakers so it didnt take long for me to realise they wern't needed...

if its called an In Car System, then isn't that meant to be where its kept? in the car? That wouldn't really annoy my parents if I got a big ass sound system in my room and probably put them off buying me a car. Personally I'd just spend the money on getting a nicer car and making sure it runs ok, Otherwise you might be sat in a car listening to your music but not being able to move anywhere :'(

In my car I've got 2 350w 6x9's and a 15" sub pumping out 1500w of pure bass.. I love it! I was driving through a car park a couple of months ago with the music up and the bass vibrations set off a car alarm! If you like loud tunes then just save all your money now but don't buy anything.. Then once you've got your car you can shop around for a nice system to install into it!

well, i see we have different points of views on this. i know its call 'IN CAR entertainment' and it will be when i get a car, just not at first. i don't really think it matters what speakers you get for the front because if they don't fit you can make them fit with a bit of D.I.Y and know how. i was thinking of getting a escort van, nothing special just so i can put some bikes in the back along with a few sub's (nothing too big) so i can get to where i want to ride quicker and listen to a better quality of music to get your self in the mood. i cant get a car too good because of prices of insurance etc. anyway cheers for your replies.

:)

So you might go out and buy 16.5cm speakers then buy a van that only has space in the door for 10cm's then magically make them fit?!?! f**k the DIY, just buy the right size speaker to start off with!

You say a few subs? But you dont want anything that is too ott? 1 sub in a nice box will be all you need, sod getting a few subs you bass junky.

Save the money to actually get a licence, whats the point in buying a sound system for your car when you havent even got a driving licence :)"

What i'd do:

By all means buy the system: 1 x 12" Vibe Sub, 2 x 6x9" Infinity Speakers. Decent head unit and amp... you don't many speakers, it's too much unless you're building a show car. Just get sufficient to over power engine noise... (Even then that's risky, you can't hear problems)
