  1. I know its easy to be wise after the event, but its quite easy to see if theyre not tight, there shouldnt be any real gap between the mounts. They look dry as well, i take it you didnt use any grease on them?
  2. Surely you couldve nipped a few mill off the end of the bolts with a hacksaw and a file when you realised they were too long?
  3. 2 Normal tubes weigh less than one DH tube though
  4. 260/264 courtesy of those nice gentlemen from lancashire
  5. One of my data books gives typical part temperatures of 200F, which should do bugger all to the temper of the rim.

    Spoke Sizes

Using Hope's calculator, ERD of 547 as given on tartybikes, for 36 hole 3 cross i get 256 and 259. The calc also threw this up: Big'un notes Here are some notes based on my experiences building Big'Uns. Spoke lengths On each side there is an inner and outer spoke hole diameter. This does not effect the spoke length, so the spoke lengths for a given side of the hub are the same. Note that as with normal hubs there is a different spoke length for left and right side. Lacing I find it easier to lace one complete side at a time. Start with the spokes in the outer circle of spoke holes. On the rear drive side you may find it easier to place the spokes through the hub by removing the freehub body. -- Roger Musson
  7. Seems that whole site is dead.
  8. You'll need to give it some beans, I put that on so it wouldnt come off without a fight
  9. If its seriously tight and feels like your going to bust something if you go any further, hit the end of the puller with a hammer. Most of the knackered cranks ive seen have been put down to poor tools and too much force, a bit of shock treatment works wonders.
  10. Cranks are generally softer than the puller though The poor quality pullers have very poorly finished threads usually, so they will eat the crank threads up.
  11. Straight through, no problems. I believe they are yet to have a customer charged for import, so dont ask too many questions
  12. New alloy ones are £3, im sure you can think laterally and find the man who makes them
  13. If you can, when you pull it to pieces, try and rebuild it with the pawls back in the same holes the came from, makes all the difference
  14. Its a wear indicator, when it disappears its time for a new rim. Good theory for road and xc, bad for trials.
  15. It does look like a BT, certainly from a distance the dropouts look to be big hefty plates like the BT's have, the stays are huge box section affairs, and the gussets at the headtube and the seatstay/toptube junction are very similar to those on prawn's raven 5 proto. Call it a family resemblance.
  16. Is my computer being a batty crease, or does fatmikes site not exist anymore?
  17. You could get either the polished/blue stickers or the paintjob in the pic in 2002

  20. The development costs of the new bug. would never have gone towards helping people who really need it, I suppose thats the corporate world we have, and I feel as disappointed with the way things are as you do. Only I hope that by knowing how to "make bits of metal move", I could help people. Youve got to accept that the modern advantages you're enjoying (electricity, heating, t'internet, transport, clean water and a few others) are only here due to people being interested in making bits of metal that move. Just because we're discussing that rather than world poverty, doesnt mean we care less about people. I'm presuming that as your on the forum, you had or have a bike. Can you justify that in the grand scheme of things?
  21. With a bit of creative rounding, hopetech give those numbers as well.
  22. Peter Wheeler pulled the plug on the speed twelve, he said it was unmanagable on the road. That was 900 horse in about two thirds the weight of the veyron, so it would be a bit of an animal.
  23. I believe the hydraulic power is also used for the active suspension, so you would need to keep it cool.
