I'd recommend a QR just to be on the safe side, they've got serrated ends to keep things in check

As for the calliper, for trials surely a smaller piston is gonna give you more bite + power? Push your fist into your palm, then push just one finger in with the same force, what can you feel more?

There are a hell of a lot more variables than just the size of the piston!
