Does anyone over 30 still ride trials :(
monkeyseemonkeydo replied to ChrisBrown81's topic in Trials Chat
Although I don't feel like I should be quitting just because of my age I do find that I tend not to go on big group rides with the yoofs and there hashtagawesomeness... I really need to make an effort to get out with the likes of Prawn, Luke and the old school mob down here as I do miss messing around in Southampton, Pompy etc. but tend not to attend the average group ride for one reason or another. Similarly to Ads I've never really done the stupid big stuff that instilled self preservation so much so that side hasn't changed although I do find my calibration fails me when it comes to gaps and ups and stuff, I guess because there are things that I definitely used to be able to do with ease that I'll now try and just can't get. Partly due to lack of pop from not riding enough and partly from a 'brain says no' standpoint. Slightly frustrating whatever! -
The Bill is really good (and open all week) but the quarries up near the Portland Heights hotel are pretty good. Some are still working though so you need to go on Sundays. There's also some stuff by the Verne and also if you head along Bumpers Lane and keep going there's plenty to do. Around Weymouth itself there's the stuff by the pavillion (transitiony stuff as well as walls/platforms near where the Condor used to dock. Also some walls, rails and groins along the sea front and definitely worth heading over towards the Nothe Fort and some of the sea defenses around that area.

Quite proud to think that I was (I think) the first UK rider to ride an Echo and be sponsored by them back in 2001. It's a bit of a shame Deng kept such a low profile within trials.

He appears to have to removed the videos from his Facebook page.

I don't think it's just that though (as in not purely tailoring his riding to make money). Kenny always looks like he's enjoying what he's doing and is approachable and just a generally nice guy. I'm sure the Cousts are nice in their own way but riding wise they tend to put out crap videos (as in poorly put together, editted etc. regardless of riding content) and only ever come across as angry Frenchman taking things way too seriously which is never going to catch the public's/sponsors attention outside of the sport and so they'll never 'make it' in the same sense as Kenny. And don't get me started on the clothing choices.

Shit picture is shit. Looks like under proper light it's probably white and gold. If it's black then it's a shiny material reflecting the yellowy light in the shop and if it's blue then my guess of the crap picture making it look blue when it's actually white is wrong. Refer to my first sentence.

It did work as I wanted it to but the issue was having to reach down to activate it (release the seat QR then redo while riding). When I came across the cheap Tmars ones with the remote actuation I thought I'd give it a go. The gas strut was a cheap one from eBay (was an 8kg one that cost £6.74 I think) and it's certainly doable in an afternoon but I must admit I like having a lever on the bars now! If you do go for it I'd say the USE plastic shim/bush was a good plan- had the required split already in it to line up with the alignment slot in the post and related pin through the seat clamp and did a good job of keeping metallic surfaces apart.

Been there a couple of times and looked at that thinking 'how cool would it be to...'. Good work Rick!

I take it they mean 2015? Or have they only just found him after 3 years? Maybe not? Weird.

If you don't want a stupidly expensive phone I'd seriously recommend the Motorola Moto G's. You can pick them up dirt cheap and they're awesome value for money, does exactly what it needs to with virtually no bloatware.

I love the idea of these but everything seems so bloody drawn out. One use I could see for me is having an external HDD attached to one so I can play all my digital movies (legally acquired of course) through my TV but a quick search of Google makes it look like a week long project to get a RPi to do that... Maybe that's just me though!

Good choice! You really can't go wrong with an Inspired- seriously well thought out bikes. -
I've got Sealskinz for walking but I wouldn't want to ride in them really. I've got some thin liners that I wear under my normal gloves when it's proper cold and they definitely help with warmth but obviously not waterproofing... Man up?!

32 and 5/6ths and still get out and play on the Arcade when I can. Rode Portland last weekend, Southampton the weekend before and mess around with my 2 year old at the skate park when I can (my 5 month old isn't interested in bikes yet- go figure). Jobs and kids get in the way (as it looks like you're probably aware!) but while I'm still enjoying it I'll keep riding. -
The shape does lend itself to generating lift. From the side you're basically dealing with an aerofoil where you're getting flow going faster and creating lift over the top. If it's lowered more flow will be forced over the top so compounding that effect. Adding roof bars will screw up that flow to an extent and potentially reduce lift induced by the upper surfaces of the car. Not beyond reason that at higher speeds it will change the lift characteristics.
-
What car? If they're modifying the flow over the windscreen/roof/rear end you could be reducing lift which would make it feel more planted. Drag will most likely have increased of course but that would influence top speed more than 'feel'.

From memory the original Rock N Roll Bikes site was fairly slick and well put together. That looks like some 12 year old's school project

The name's always grated on me but it appears that their website has also reverted to the 1980's. What are they smoking up there?

Just had to Google ANZAC... Will have to make some of those.

I honestly thought you were joking when you linked to that ally sheet listing... As someone who takes proper care of their cars and mentioned a carbon reason I assumed the thought of riveting a sorry piece of ally in place would never cross your mind.

Worst production trial bikes thread...

I always wanted (as in between 1998 and 2000 or so) a vario tibo xl with a 26" front and a 25" rear with a fat ass tyre like a mod.. -
