No, although your pc monitor should be "HD" already as pc monitors run much higher resolutions than the equivalent TV's. If you're going from a small monitor to a large one you may find the graphics card isn't up to the job of producing a clean image at full HD bit-rates, the same with the CPU. But i'm 90% sure it'll be alright for just watching HD vimeo files etc. Watching full quality AVCHD will most likely bring your processor to its knees though. Unless of course you're going to be attaching a tv screen to the pc (bad idea for everyday use). If you put a full pc spec up and tell us what tasks you'll be doing we can tell you if the computer is up to it. If you get a bigger screen though you should be able to just plug it in and then the graphics chipset should automatically find it and set the correct resolution. If not you'll need to set it manually, which again, is a 30 second job.

Ermm.... yeah, he did? Most people go "it's loud, it must work". It's easier to ask if it's loud than to ask if it works as people vary in their opinion of what a working brake is. I just put the two questions together. To be fair though i've not actually seen many vee brakes that are loud, mostly due to the rigid pad retention system. With regards to the XTR question, it's not that the XTR is a bad vee brake, but it's a much more complex design that is prone to becoming wobbly and needing more in the way of attention than standard vee arms (like the sd7's), much in the same way the avid arch rival brake always seemed to cause more issues in the long run than it ended up solving.

Because a loud brake is usually synonymous with a fast biting brake. It seems most people would prefer loud noise and fast action at the expense of a slow performing brake which is a lot quieter. I know i find it reassuring being able to hear my brake working when i'm about to do something that i might get hurt on.

I watched a documentary about people like you the other week, did you choose standing or seated? Sounds awful really...
-
If your wanting a first car and you decline a 2 seat van for a seicento on the basis of rear seats for your mates, well.... i wouldn't bother due to the size of them. You'd end up with a car too small to comfortably use the back seats for mates like you would in any normal car and too small to drop the seats to get bikes in like you could a van. Sure it might get you places, but so would a moped and how many people would be seen dead on one of those, especially out of choice?

You might hate me for even thinking this but i recon it's time for round two of me vs that rock section

Did you even look? If that isn't obvious enough, it's the first link on the page... ie here

Tell me about it. 2 minutes difference in anything i did and i'd not have seen the guy to speak to him in the first place. Apparently he wasn't meant to be out himself as he's under a police curfew! From what he was saying they're a pair of well known local thieves, always stealing other peoples bikes and selling them off for £50 so they can score weed etc. Sounded as though he just walked into their back garden and took it from them ! The guy seemed to think that it'd have been at their house less than 24 hours before being sold so the police would have been way too slow to retrieve it by the sounds of things. Got the police coming over tomorrow instead (talk about a speedy service) so i'll run through a statement with them and tell them what happened and how and that i've got the bike back. They've got them on like 3 sets of cctv and got them stealing it on camera so if they wanted to follow it up i guess that's up to them. Main thing is i have it back in my possession safely locked away in the house and covered under house insurance!

And so they did again with this one about 2 hours ago. I was to blame really as i thought left the bike unlocked outside a shop in a fairly rough part of loughborough. Couldn't see anyone and it was really late so i thought it'd be okay for a minute while i grabbed a drink. Left the bike in front of a cctv camera and with the wheel in the doorway of the shop so i could see it and some f**ker walked out the shop after buying his stuff and then grabbed the bike and was off. Was rather furious, at myself as much as anything, and promptly called the police, made sure the guy was on cctv etc. Nobody could do anything though until the next day Couldn't believe it had been stolen and ended up walking round the estate that was nearby in the vain hope of seeing it. Sadly, no such joy. I even tried asking some dodgy looking kid if he knew where the best place to look was and to get the word out that there'd be a reward of a couple of hundred for it. Best he could do was point me to somewhere nearby though which i tried looking round but to no avail. So i was on my way back when i see this guy i spoke to riding around on the bike, said he knew exactly where it would have been and went to go fetch it for me. So i nipped to tesco and got £50 out for him (i was grateful for him actually bringing it back) and told him i couldn't get anymore and that if he wants the other £50 to come round to my house and get it tomorrow and promptly gave him the house number for a couple of doors down from mine who've all moved home for summer (student house). Didn't think it'd be wise to give him mine as it may get out that theres a decent bike in my house and i'm not wanting any more robberies. Pretty sketchy night! I'll have fun when the police turn up tomorrow and i have to explain how i make a faster response team than they do.

It's quite a common place for that dropout toi go. The weaker mech hanger doesn't support the narrow section of the frame and eventually it cracks. There is a very easy fix that'll prolong it's lifespan for a long time, and luckily it's very easy to do! Get yourself a piece of 5-7mm thick steel, cut it out to the same shape and size as the mech hanger and simply replace the weak metal hanger with your new one. I did that to my t-rex sometime last year and it's still going strong now. I'm well over 200lbs too ;)It seems to be enough to distribute the forces evenly across the dropout and stop the crack from progressing. Think i made mine with a peice of shopping trolley from work and an angle grinder. It's not like it'll cost you much time/effort to make one up. I didn't even file the edges of mine after grinding

I love mine, i've had the bike for a while now and i still get a boyish smile creep on my face when i see the forks. Absolute monsters. Can't wait to see pictures, sounds like it's a decent project.

What, that glue sounds kinda.... super!?!
-
Very nice forks. They'll really surprise you with just how big they are.

Another vote for bleeding it.

You said "mods are easier to ride" and have often said that stocks are only making life harder for myself because mods are much easier to ride. I disagreed, that's all. My bike is ridiculous for you because your five foot nothing. I think you forget we're not the same size and so what feels weird to you feels fine to me! I look uncomfortable on it because, if anything, it's still too small for me. That's not a short bike, with no bb rise and a 130mm stem and it still looks a little small. I didn't say more limited, you weren't listening. I said that when you start going huge you get limited by the bike size with a mod. I didn't say that certain people don't make exceptions i was talking on a purely mechanical level. Certain moves simply cannot be done on a mod when they can on a stock to a bigger size. Some of the things i've seen in comps mod bikes have had to get on the back wheel and throw themselves off/over in order to get through a gate, where as a stock bike just came along and rolled down the other side, in a tight section when your losing time/energy it makes a difference. One of these, but not rolling. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXRSPfdfH-A&feature=related That's the thing, i wasn't making it rider specific. I merely said that when you start to go big the size of the mod bike will, in most cases, make the same moves more awkward than a stock bike at a mechanical level.

Only up until the taps point, then you rode off.

I would use it certainly, it's much closer to me than a lot of other places and would be well worth the trip if done right. I don't know much about the liability issues however a very similar thing was made by a chap called mike up at barrow farm. He made a trials course and dirt jump ring and the place is absolutely fantastic and has been used for competitons recently. He's also a really nice guy so i'm sure he'd be able to help you out with the technicalities. I think Ali C had a large part in the building of the traisl course at lee quarry in bacup so he might be another one to get in touch with. A space for camping is a good idea, as a lot of people like to make a weekend of it and who doesn't like sitting around a campfire with their mates? The course designs should be a last priority in terms of organising though, sorting the land is the biggy, then once the liability is in place a course will pretty much make itself once you get the things there. If you would like a hand with building the thing I'd be happy to help, as i'm sure many others on here would as well.

No, you said "mods are easier". I said that depends and at some things they'll limit you, especially at the larger-moves end of the spectrum. You also constantly tell me i'm making life harder for myself riding a stock, which at 6'5" is clearly the opposite. And you finished the discussion with "f**k you, yeh, whatever you say" like a little child because you were too ignorant and narrow minded to listen to another viewpoint that differs from your own. Yes mods are flickier, yes they're easier to start on. Bigger wheels makes most intermediate/advanced things easier, riding natural is a perfect example things you'd have to pull the bike around for on a mod can be ridden over with a stock. Pigeons, taps and hooks at the larger end of the spectrum should easier on a stock purely due to leverage. Think about a tap, your front wheel is bashing much higher up on a stock than a mod so the impacted force is already starting the move off higher. Weight nowadays is largely a non-issue. Back when i first started mods were easier to ride on mostly because they were a lot lighter, now the difference is fairly minimal. Theres an echo control in the Fs section at the minute that is lighter than a lot of mods. If you want a short, flicky bike that is slightly more responsive then mods are going to be easier, if you want to go bigger with your moves then a stock is a sensible choice. Obviously the diferences in ease of use will vary due to rider size etc. But for you personally, a mod is better. You're still short so you actually fit them. Me on the other hand, well your bars don't even go past my knees when i stand up on the back wheel... so no, a mod won't be easier for me. Both have their benefits and both have their limitations. Unless you don't actually fit one then you don't have a choice.
-
You sure about that?
-
Both of them. Lube it up with oil from the outside then poke it thorugh. Proceed to clean out all the gunk and thick slimy crap from the residual magura oil. I've just done mine today and it's so much nicer, and i first water bled mine around 4 years ago!
-
I think this is the point that sparked off all the controversy. Using water is an aftermarket upgrade, that is all. Water is mostly free so it's just not one you purchase that is all. Grinding your rims, using softer, grabbier pads instead of maguras own pads and using echo cnc/RB levers instead of the standard ones are all upgrades to improve the brake and none of them are really sanctioned by magura. I think the manual says only to use magura branded pads as well but how many people use magura pads over koxx, echo etc? Oil is a good substance for most situations on the planet, from the sahara to the arctic at the expense of lever response. Water won't work in the arctic and may expand in warmer temperatures but if you can use it, it feels better without any immediate side effects. Besides, magura aren't exactly going to let on that water will probably work when they can say only use oil and only use THEIR Magura blood at 5-6x the price of LHM.
