Virus Alert

I was hit earlier today, and so were several of my contacts.....

The Virus sends itself as an attachment to all your contacts, or several of them - even if you're not online...

I got sent: LOL.scr.... when I was gaming under XP.

Aye, i've had about 20 people trying to send them me. :ermm: Half of which, i've never even spoken to!!

Do they know their sending it?

So it sends itsself between people, then what does it do?

I am also not one of the stupid ones. And have not accepted it.

It's LOL.scr pretty obvious that it's dodgy, with a file extension not many people know of. My girlfriends brother has banned her from the computer because of this virus, as he knows nothing about computers he doesn't realise MSN doesn't get them it's all the porn sites he goes on that does.

just to help out people who have it (i don't didnt acept the file from either probily 6 people who sent me it (all had different names as program)) how do you get rid of it? Is that the link to sort it out in the first post? What do you need to do on that link?

I wouldn't say you're an idiot if you accept, not everyone knows about computers and file extensions...

For example my g/f had hahahaha.pif sent to her by her mate and she accepted it as she knows sod all about file extensions, well she didnt until then, so you don't have to be thick to get hit by it... (She studies Law so she's hardly thick :S)

I never said anyone was thick.  I just said they're an idiot...as in lack of common sense terms... if someone offers you something bizarre that doesnt fit the conversation at all, you should be aware enough to ask them what it is.

But if it has the name of LOL (i.e. Laugh Out Loud) you would think it was something funny - hence the reason why it gets spread so easily...

Social Engineering - getting someone to do something for you, so you don't have to - e.g. they open a file for you, so you don't have to program the file to open.

I know how it works, trust. I dont back down on the fact that in this day and age people need to get educated on such basics - and if they dont, they deserve to learn that the hard way. With a little bit of basic computer education a lot of spyware and virii wouldnt be a problem because the user would see how obvious it is.
