i'd say that the star nut would pull out of the steerer way before things got tight enough to damage the forks

most people seem to end up cutting the gusset to make room

as far as i remember, curved forks are supposed to be better at absorbing vibration although that pretty much only applies to trail riding

generally organic pads work best for trials

sounds like a swollen lever piston to me, take the piston out and remove the seals and o rings, then give it a light sanding, then reassemble. should do the trick EDIT: too slow again lol DOUBLE EDIT: tartys sell an echo piston which fits if the sanding fails

i've not used one myself, but i know a few bmxers who've used something similar but with a hole in the end to fit over the valve. they do seem pretty cheap!
