Dilema - To Tell Insurance Company Or Not :-s
Krisboats replied to Joe Papasnap Maher's topic in Chit Chat
Same thing happened with my mates VW polo (P reg i think). His car got hit from behind and unfortunately for him the guy gave false details and never got it sorted and the police said they weren't going to follow it up. Anyway... His uncle works at a garage and despite the fact the lower rear bumper was battered and it bent everything else out of shape so much the boot was jammed shut, his uncle went to a bodywork specialist and got a new rear bumper sprayed it and straightened the rear end up for the grand total of £30. This was trade price for the panel though but it wasn't alot more than that at retail though something like £60-70 i'm sure he said. So if he does get in contact you get the information of the car and get a quote from a bodywork specialist yourself, explain it to him as well i would imagine he won't be too bothered about were it gets done so long as you're polite and do get it sorted for him. Also get things like photocopies of the invoice and a repair number from the place that will fix it to remove the possibilities of any future claims he might make. Hope it goes well dude -
First off shimano hubs are not good for trials, they are far too weak. I'm guessing that seeing as you havn't broken one yet you're not gapping very far at the minute but when you start to put some power through it you will soon realise just how bad they are. Despite the fact that everybody has said and it's quite well known that shimano hubs break you seem intent that they are good. We're not making this up!! 21 points of engagement is more than enough, i'm using an xc hub now and its great... it never skips and i have complete confidence in it. As far as i'm aware waynio had been using a hope mono (the same as xc only without disc tabs) and he's a right beast. If it's good enough for him i'm willing to bet its going to be more than adequate for you. The gt hadley hubs are crap, why are you so insistent on getting one? You would be much better off investing in reliablity rather than engagement points, more engagements doesn't suddenly double your gapping distance. As to wanting to put a shimano freehub body on it thats one of the worst ideas i've ever heard. Why would you want to buy a new hub only to take the freehub body off and replace it with a rubbish old shimano one? The best solution for a low cost reliable hub will be a hope xc/mono, slightly more money and you could go for a hope pro II t which is hopes specially designed newly released trials hub with 48 engagement points. There's also the option of getting a hub designed to be used in conjunction with a freewheel like a dmr hub and then putting an acs or eno freewheel onto it (this wouldn't mean you have to change you cranks and everything like suggested earlier) Or you could go for a chris king rear hub which has 72 engagement points but will need to be serviced regularly.

I'm pretty sure that they are slow with their e-mails, i'm sure it was something like 3-5 days for a reply. If its not too much give them a ring. Or if you want, add someone to msn and get them to ring and ask bikedock the questions you want answering?

Ohhh my names gone now from the list of people you thanked... well the list has gone anyway. Having THE ONE AND ONLY TRIALS-SHACK back is a much better surprise. But there is one thing i don't agree with simon... Trials-shack was huge, you know there's gonna be a big long line of peopl who will want an account (myself included, should you be gracious enough to have me (not in a gay way :$ )) Is there going to be enough income from shop banners to support this now, because it's not fair for you to have to pay for it again? Though a donations button will most likely be used. I think everyone on t-f should donate 50p or £1 to simon for bringing this back most likely everyone on here will use it again, like a thankyou present.. imagine how much he'd get from 50p donations from everyone! nice one dude!

Those were some of the biggest moves i've seen for a long while, you guys look as though your just trying to push the limits of everything... including gravity itself. that gap was and that massive tap has truly inspired me to get mine going bigger. I wasn't too keen on the music though but i never have been a fan of screamy tunes.

Very impressive riding there, you're ability really comes across when you realise that you keep switching your lead foot and have to rewind to realise how much you can do with your feet the wrong way round. The bike itself looks very clean and how a bike is meant to look, tubular frames is the new frame trend. Did that bail on the rail damage the frame at all?

Thats not destruction this is.

Although i was trying to do some rails this morning and i couldn't get them the key to keeping yourself on the back wheel is to land ontop of the rail not hit it and roll up the edge of it, this way you'll have to hop to keep the front end up and you usually slip. What you want to try and do is almost overshoot the rail but instead of clearing it completely push you rear wheel down onto the top of it that way you will be much more likely to land nicely on the object and you won't find it as hard to keep the front end up. So basically jump too much and place the back wheel down.

Thats why you put them in the washing machine... i mean, you don't wear you're clothes all the time without washing them do you. Wash your shinpads after say every four rides and they won't smell at all. I have the 661 Veggie shin pads and they are great, after having several rather painful experiences with my peddles hitting my shins they are a godsend. Plus they also help with giving you a bit more confidence to try new things like crankflips, you won't have to worry about not pulling the move off because it won't hurt when the pedals smack your shin. They also have loads of protection around the whole lower leg as they wrap around, so they stop pedals scratching the back of your calfs. Give them a try, if you really don't like them sell them again on ebay.

Very Pissed Off About Posting Messages!
Krisboats replied to hill_393's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
Well when i first joined, back in the day, I was validated in around a week. I didn't use text talk and i only posted to things i could help with (i.e. things i actually new about) and i think i made something like 8 posts and i was validated. It's really not hard to get validated you just have to show that you are a helpful and polite person and the people who need to see it will do. Simple hints; Use the spellcheck, this should get rid of any txt talk that you might be used to putting into your writing, Be polite and friendly, Only post something that is of some relevant help... posting something like "thats a mint bike there mate! " does not count as a post... you need to write in depth and explain things so its easy for other people to interpret so something like "I really do like the look of that bike because i like the way it looks so simple without having cables everywhere and other bits of otherwise unnecessary parts, though i would change the rear tyre because firstly i don't like red tyres and secondly i'm quite heavy so i would be inclined to to have a tyre with a larger internal air volume to soak up my heavy landings"Heed these words and you too will be able to join the big boys as a full member. -
Chain reaction cycles postage is free to uk addresses, so it is just £30. And its CRC not cnc Its not anywhere near 20p to make a magura lever. As said before thay have to build it and eveything, your probably looking near £10-15 for materials and building then they have to add some money to it so they make a profit at trade price (the price they sell them to shops for) so seeing as they don't sell many seperate levers it'd be about £20-25. Then there's the extra amount the shops put onto it to make up the rrp of £40. So thats basically how you get it to being £40. But chain reaction are mega competitive so they always have low prices. Live with it

I bought my base ta26 frame from there and when it came the threads in the bottom bracket weren't right so i rang them up and asked what i should do and they told me to post it back off to them and that they would have a look at it and send it back off to bike-it (the uk distributor of base products) if it wasn't repairable. bearing in mind the local bike shop had had a bash at cleaning the threads in the bb shell but didn't want to go any further and damage the threads for me. I sent it off to them with standard 3-5 day post and got it back a week later with a note saying they had sorted the threads out in the frame and had given me a new bashplate and rubber block along with screws and other little frame bits... I still had the original bashplate and rubber block and bits at home so i had 2 sets of bits. Very helpfull and friendly on the phone.

Paypal, Anyone Had Customer Service Problems?
Krisboats replied to Bonney@X-Street's topic in Chit Chat
Both of you are completely within your rights to get trading standards/office of fair trading on there ass. As far as trading standrards are concerned they have stolen money from you, which is against the consumer rights act (or something like that). Was it recorded delivery so that you can tell the item was received? If so send all the information to the T.S. people and they will let you know where to go from there. As for you bon keep harassing paypal till you get a result, keep ringing them up and don't talk to anybody apart from a manager or supervisor... those call people will just put you through to so many different people that you forget who you're talking to. If they don't seem to be doing anything at all get trading standards on them. For more information on either have a look on here www.direct.gov.uk -
Don't jump up to the stem, you want to pull the stem towards your waist at the same time as putting a little pedal stroke in there. As you feel the bikes front wheel get to about its maximum height you want to push the bars forwards and upwards at the same time (your elbows should be about the same height level as your chin) as jumping upwards and bending your knees. When the back wheel touches the wall/object push the bars forwards even more and try to stand up... eventually you will get the hang of it. It will most likely take longer than a week though. Here's what i mean Little clip See the pedal stroke to help get the front wheel up, then pulling the bars towards the waist at the same time as extending the legs, then pushing the bars forwards and upwards (elbow to chin height roughly) The forwards momentum should slowly lean you forwards at which point you will be able to easily stand up whilst still on the back wheel. These pictures were taken from trashzen.com which has detailed descriptions on how to do pretty much everything in trials and has been almost a holy bible of trials for some riders.

After having so many people now start a conversation with me and have this thing tell me there may be people blocking me on msn (if they have it's probably because i annoyed them or they're c***s so i don't care). Could people please take the time to get rid of these and not just let it stay on your computers. Here's a little bit about it that i found (on www.askmarvin.ca) and thought would be useful: And here's how to get rid of it: I also found this from punkrider last year that may help get rid of it: Hope it helps people out and if anybody opens msn and shows me a block checker announcement they are going to get a roasting. :$

It is if you plaster new members chat with links to the paypal donations button (or just an obvious little link somewhere) and tell them that making a contribution to keeping t-f up will help them get validated quicker... There's always new people and they're always desperate to be a full member with all of us cool folk so they might see it as a fast way of getting in the crowd.... whether they do actually get validated quicker or not will obviously stay at the discretion of tom/danny and the mods. Almost guaranteed income. I'm loving the improvements by the way guys.... this place is mighty fine now

That isn't a pun thats a descriptive statement. You don't hold on to your helmet you wear it. I don't really like the look of this helmet, seems a bit too i dunno, just cheap looking. Mind you if it is cheap and saves your head then its good nough for me.

I have been using onza hognesiums since the bike show last year (where i bought them) They are light smooth and are definately better than the v8's that i used before them. The dmr's came loose all the time after about 8 months of using them and they became increasingly unsmooth. The metal grips on them wore down and it's obviously not possible to replace them unless you're quite handy with a drill and some grub screws. Eventually the axle snapped on the dmr's so i was forced to get some new pedals... lucky that the bike show was the very day after the dmr's had snapped. With the hognesiums they were very grippy and every single pin is replaceable so should you mash them up you can stick some new ones in. i have used them mainly for street riding and i have only lost 3 pins on each pedal... mind you i havn't bothered trying to replace them. These pedals have taken a beating and are still going strong, i'm not looking at replacing them any time soon.

Why Do You Always Do Things On The Wrong Side ?
Krisboats replied to franssouet's topic in Trials Chat
Jt's example of the left side rear lever was very good and i think that explains itself rightly enough, unless you americans have the flap on your flies the wrong way round too. There's also the fact that with our right hands being more nimble we can use it to do other things while being on the back wheel, like running your hand through your hair in slow motion to attract the ladies, or to pick your nose whilst your gapping (some little shits must have done this somewhere) i think having the right hand free to eat while riding is very useful, there's nothing better than to do a gap whilst eating a ham salad sandwhich....mmmm yummy Whats in my mind? well i think i'll let these do the explaining -
If you're putting these coke can spacers in and it's still doing it your definately doing something wrong. I mean, most headsets need to be put in with a press because they fit so tightly. it's most obviously going to be flared if you can easily slide a spacer in there and have it still wobble. You could get it reamed or buy an fsa pig headset, they are slightly wider then normal headsets and have a tendancy of flaring headsets... so if yours is already flared it should fit in nicely.

Ben thats the stupidist thing i've ever heard, i think someone was winding you up mate!

Why Do You Always Do Things On The Wrong Side ?
Krisboats replied to franssouet's topic in Trials Chat
Did it not occur that maybe people get used to riding their way? i mean your used to riding with your brakes the goon way but i know for a fact that my left hand pulls the brake harder and is generally much better for braking than my right one, which coincidentally is much better for front wheel moves as its slightly more responsive. People adapt to what they are presented with. -
About 5 months was the longest ever for me really, and it broke a couple of times while i was using it... i'm just usually keen to replace a chain if it looks old or i feel like it will break. I am a bit heavy though so i get through them quite quickly.

Yeah i'm another vote with the ronnie. its 38mm wide so you shouldn't need a pad bodge and has held up to my sometimes hefty landings which dented the shit out of a planet x bmf (basically the same as an alex dx32) The new echo rims are supposed to be very hard to dent, but yesterday conner told me that they were supposed to go egg shaped quite easily... though i don't know how true this is.
