My Project Comp Frame

Just something to think about....

Your gusset between the top and bottom tube is not a good idea. It is a high stress area and I have seen 2 frames ( one of them was a marino) 1st had that have had a similar tube joint and both of them cracked within a season of riding. I have shown the typical crack location in red. A better gusset is to have a plate on both sides of the frame in the head tube area similar to the old Koxx Levelboss frame.

Your bike looks nice and I hope you keep it for more than 2 months. I love Marino frames (owner of 2) and it is so nice to see Cro-mo being used.

Thanks a lot, I will keep that in mind.

Yes I did!

Marino made an error, I wanted him to put stickers saying "panther" on the frame, but here is what he has done:

Epic fail!

    Thats what you get for asking him to put "Panther" on it. Marino gets it right 60% of the time - every time.

Anyone know of anybody that's had a bmx frame made by marino? Are they quite plain with frames or could I be reaaaal anal about what I want with it?

Dude, check out his blog on his web site, he's made loads of bmx's.

If I understood that right then:

Liking the frame a lot. It's nice to see your frame come to life, Gazza sent me some build pics from when I ordered a Triton, it made the wait and first ride all the more special!

i used to have one.

rode like a spring.

And you did not like it, right?

The frame must have been built between years 2005-2006. First frames had smaller OD stays thus leading to more flex compared to frames made in 2007+.

The other thing is that customers order Ti for its slight spring and flex effect and ask me to use thinner stays.

oh how i would jazz if i had a triton. Absolutely love them.

Gazza - i think we have discussed before, but how much would i be looking at for a stock frame!?

Ben

Hi Ben,

That's GBP 595 including postage to the UK

Thnx

Dmitry

Average 26" CS for trials is 375? Is that just for the frames you make, because ive not seen many other trials frames with a back end as short as that, even on 24" trials bike frames?

Yeah, I have had many orders on frames with 375mm CS. This is more like eastern european trend. English guys usually go for 380-385

Loved the Phanter name..Would be cool if you kept it!

Gazza: That's cheap, was looking at your site Tritonframes. com or something..Could not find a price, so estimated that it would be to expensive for me!

You should write the price on your site!

Base prices will be uploaded soon. Sorry about that. All frames are custom built and shipping fees are different depending on a country thus the price may vary a lot

After hearing many advices from people, I really hope I won't be "that" disappointed. So I am in no hurry to receive it. But apparently people tend to forget that a bike is just supposed to be ridden and not just a completely well designed piece of aluminium.

Next pictures will be from the complete bike. Double Try-Hole rims, front Vee, rear Maggie, Kenda Nevegal and Karma light tires.

Dude, check out his blog on his web site, he's made loads of bmx's.

I did but they all look pretty "standard" And with mistakes that marino have made from what very little ive read across this forum I was skeptical. Everything will need to be perfect otherwise I'll absolutely hate it haha.

You obviously didn't look at his blog hard enough then. Did you not see all the different designs he has come up with?..Not just BMX... Trials, DH, 4 wheeled DH, street, park bla bla.. Contact him, give him details. He will then draw you up a sketch and if you're happy, he will go ahead with the build... however "different" it is. (Y)

Yeah it is pretty heavy but I think it will be nice. I just love the idea of having it in my garage soon! Thanks very much!

Ok time for an update!

So he has finished welding the gussets on the top and down tube:

100_2016.jpg

And he has welded the Brake mounts. They look original and long, so If I ever have to use helicoil there will be loads of room for it!

100_2017.jpg

Next imporant thing is now done. I am speaking of the triple seat tube. I asked him to do it at the last moment so it doesn't precharge the welding on these tubes too much. I think it looks very well done, and it is just the way I wanted it to look.

100_2018.jpg

Now the BB area is being finished. There is a small gusset between both chainstays near the BB so it will help stiffen the rear triangle near the Bb area (that is already rigideified by the triple seat tubes). But then we have some connectors between both sides of the rear triangle. There are just two gussets missing.

100_2019.jpg

100_2020.jpg

So next thing is welding gussets in the BB area, painting, and then shipping. I paid for the frame this morning and it went smooth with XOOM.com

My bank just contacted me to know if it was normal to have money being sent to Peru lolzzzzzz.

Thanks for your attention!

Is there something up with the 4-bolt mounts?

And it looks nice :)

Yeah and it would ride like a spring yeah!

Mine feels stiffer than most alu frames i have. But then again i also have a pretty dialled spec, which some people may not take into account.

Anyone know of anybody that's had a bmx frame made by marino? Are they quite plain with frames or could I be reaaaal anal about what I want with it?

Did you say FBM  £400 plus shipping and vat.

Though the Marino price option is nice.

So what is the finished weight on this frame? I don't like that colour. But the light doesn't help.
