except if they are elderly and frustrated...
  4. also sometimes goes the other way: i occasionally don't post minor bike maintenace questions, because there is no "quick bike setup question" the-thread that i know of. most times i don't feel like starting a new thread.

is it really safe to have the helmet strap that loose?? (not only that kid, you too, ali) this is not helmet-shaming! i always feel like i have to have mine tight and proper, but then it really annoys me most of the time.
  10. austria just found the solution you guys need: find minor procedural error - redo vote - problem solved.
  11. kinda answered this myself. stretching before feels a lot better! barely any pain today and way more confidence. if i stretched before i always did it afterwards. i think my reasoning was that warm muscles are more stretchable.
  12. does one stretch before or after riding?
  13. thanks for the advice, both of you. 20 inch comp bike. can't really do video. yes, i'm a bit lazy with the stretching / warmup. i usually ride between 30min - 1.5h a day, for appr. the last 2.5 years. no problems noticed up to now. i recently switched to a stupid high gear (22-9) which i think has something to do with it. also i used to pedal up to rear wheel (open brake), but because of the high gear this feels a bit weird, i now go on the backwheel by weight shifting and back brake locked. i think this movement is the real culprit here, at least that's when i can really feel a bit of strain in the lower back. took a 3 week break from riding and pain was finally almost gone yesterday. went for a ride today and it's back pretty noticable now. (also got a pedal against the shin as a welcome-back present) at least now i know it's nothing serious and i can try to do more stretching (was a bit afraid i might do extra damage before)
  14. outstanding. energy of the first song was a pleasant surprise!
  15. works the other way too though. if the uk really exited i probably wouldn't order from tarty again. as much as i like their shop, dealing with money transfers and customs declaration / fees is just too annoying. before paypal i more or less never ever ordered from the uk, because the money transfer was crazy expensive. uk would become like the usa - i don't order anything from there unless there isn't any other way or it is below all custom fee limits.
  16. (i mean of course "competitive", not "compatible" in the last post. i kept repeating the word in my head and it kept sounding wrong, but i couldn't come up with the right one. i feel ashamed) thanks for the research. so there's just three possiblitities, either the uk comes up with the money, they implement high import tolls or the uk will be flooded with cheaper eu-produce. but i keep forgetting that the uk pays more the eu than it gets in return, so it should be manageable. the remaining question is whether a brexit will cost you more than what you paid before.
  17. for blaming austerity! regarding "real jobs": wouldn't the brexit be terrible for british farmes? farmers get a ton of subsidies to keep EU-goods compatibly priced.
  18. you're a young guy, so there still is hope... but that "i hate wastefulness" stick is really one of those commonplace truisms that poison political debate. yes, everybody hates it and no one is interested in parliamental debates anywhere in the world. still in 2000 years no one came up with a better solutions if you want politics / governments that are based on communication. dictatorships are a lot more efficient (in theory), still we found out time and time again that they are not productive in the long run. and also everybody would want "real people doing real jobs"... but it's just not reality anymore. any job that can be done cheaper and as good overseas will go overseas over time. it doesn't matter whether anyone likes it or not, that's just how it is. the future of the western world can't be in big scale industry, we've gotten too expensive for that.
  19. it's more or less by population size - hence them being afraid of turkey joining, because it immediately becomes the second biggest player after germany. regarding politicians: national parties are linked up in european alliances. so they harmonize their policies and votes in the european parliament.
  20. lol. i wonder where you plan to grow your local tea. seriously, the EU is more or less how globalisation should work - sharing of labour and production goods on the same eye-level: the freedom of movement for workers might bring problems in the short run, but will in the longer run help to establish similar conditions in all participating countries. the problem with globalisation is not that it's global, but that western countries exploit countries / people which have no power to fight back, leaving as little money there as possible and no plans to change that over time.
  21. didn't know that story. i'd be totally happy if britain came up with some kind of solution to stay. a good solution with a bad aftertaste is probably preferable to a mouthfull of shit. i get your point about misinformation, but it's still complicated: who is to decide that the 'people were misinformed / duped / intimidated'? politicians? the press? sociologists? make another referendum to decide whether the last one was flawed? no proper democracry should allow for votes being repeated until something good comes out. i start to understand the german legislation more and more which does not include referendums at all.
  22. i always thought this was because one might want some brake modulation on the backwheel, like when descending a slanted obstacle on the backwheel. while on the front brake on/off is enough.
  23. that was interesting. thanks. media around here says time for exit-negotiations can take 2 years maximum and they expect the EU to insist on starting those 2 years very soon, because the economy does not like uncertainty. as much as i don't wish any of you or britain in general any harm, i kinda wish the EU will take a harsh stance on the whole brexit-scenario and not come up with some wishwash that appeases the populist-nationalist trends.
